This is my favourite oasis song and it was recorded on the exact date I was born. Blown my mind that as I came kicking and screaming into the world NG was somewhere out there belting this beauty out
Liam sings this song amazingly, but Noel makes it intimate and raw in a unique way that serves the song well. Such is the case with pretty much every Oasis song Noel has ever played solo or with NGHFB. Both versions are spectacular.
Apparently this song was in part based on a 'Little book of travellers' Noel picked up in a bookstore in an airport during the Morning Glory tour that contained short stories, and poems which Noel extracted and used as lyrics in this song. It was written and recorded as a B Side to Don't Look Back In Anger in a ten day window between tour dates in '96. Mind blowing how easy he found to write songs like this back in the day. Like clockwork!
This is 1 of my favorite Oasis songs and apparently this was the only time it was ever recorded live. It's soooo lovely, Liam brings something to it that Noel doesn't. Love the album version. Wish it had been performed live
It's a shame there arent any more live performances of this song on youtube. It's an incredible tune. Thanks for the upload, this is a rarity to find for sure.
Was working in London and Manchester in construction in the 90s. Radio 1 was great for Britpop. London is dead. The magic has gone. Wish that I was back in the 90s. Nicer more natural Women. Less bitchy computer nerds. Oasis were influenced by Beatles, T Rex and my favourite Slade. 🇬🇧
Underneath the sky of red Is a storyteller sleeping alone He has no face and he has no name And his whereabouts are sort of unknown All he needs is his life in a suitcase It belongs to a friend of a friend's And as we drink to ourselves We'll amuse ourselves Underneath the sky Underneath the sky again Underneath the sky again So wish me away to an unknown place Am I living in a land with no name I'll be making a start with my brand new heart Stop me making sense once again All we need is our lives in a suitcase They belong to a friend of a friend's And as we drink to ourselves We'll amuse ourselves Underneath the sky Underneath the sky again Underneath the sky again All we need is our lives in a suitcase They belong to a friend of a friend's And as we drink to ourselves We'll amuse ourselves Underneath the sky Underneath the sky again Underneath the sky again Underneath the sky again Underneath the sky again Underneath the sky again Again again again again Underneath the sky again
Meant to be electrified, polyphonic, tribal drumming, and choral as per the original; the guitar filtered through an Hammond organ like distortion. Truly Noels greatest tour de force in production; evinced by the juxtaposition of the call and response , dynamism between his plaintive falsetto , and Liams gutteral bark. Echoey harmonies with his brother, aligned to beautiful jazz chords. With the original you come away with a sense of a triumphal resolution of tightly woven, sibling, familial, and childhood enmities.
Sounds like he changed the line to 'he has no faith and he has no name' rather than 'he has no face and he has no name' in this one. Either one epitomises the sad hopelessness of the song, but Liam has always found a way to make sad lyrics sound more upbeat and rock and roll. Noel's delivery - in addition to his subtle changes to the lyrics - alaways imbues these songs with a fresh sadness
Guys, please, check me ! The lyrics in the second verse are: "All I need is my life in a suitcase Which above from a friend of a friend. And as I drink to myself I'll amuse myself..." Is it right ?

What an absolute delightful comment. I am never disappointed with the comments section of Oasis songs.
Liam sang it on the record
@@JC-fy4up Aye I’m talking about this specific recording which he sung on the radio on the day I was born
Kinks inspired wow. Some amazing lyrics in this 😍. Very blues 💙
Ah! Just as I was about to type that I was born april 11th 1997, I see this comment. Hey birthday brother! Love from Glasgow 🏴
Noel is a genius, this isn’t even one of his more known songs as well.
Noel was banging out songs like these for fun in the 90's. The masterplan was a brilliant album in its own right

There aren't any more live performances of this song period, unfortunately. They never played it again, before or after this show.
Yea this was the only live performance they sound checked it a couple times during the morning glory tour but this is the only time they did it live
I love this guy!
First time I’ve heard like a live version of that, been listening to this song since 1996 and it’s now 2020! X ✌️🎶🇬🇧
Such an underrated song, shame there aren’t more live versions

How have I only just heard this, it’s insane
Underneath the sky of red
Is a storyteller sleeping alone
He has no face and he has no name
And his whereabouts are sort of unknown
All he needs is his life in a suitcase
It belongs to a friend of a friend's
And as we drink to ourselves
We'll amuse ourselves
Underneath the sky
Underneath the sky again
Underneath the sky again
So wish me away to an unknown place
Am I living in a land with no name
I'll be making a start with my brand new heart
Stop me making sense once again
All we need is our lives in a suitcase
They belong to a friend of a friend's
And as we drink to ourselves
We'll amuse ourselves
Underneath the sky
Underneath the sky again
Underneath the sky again
All we need is our lives in a suitcase
They belong to a friend of a friend's
And as we drink to ourselves
We'll amuse ourselves
Underneath the sky
Underneath the sky again
Underneath the sky again
Underneath the sky again
Underneath the sky again
Underneath the sky again
Again again again again
Underneath the sky again
Can’t stop listening to this version, faultless from Noel.
This, Noel singing Supersonic acoustic for Munich radio and Stay Young acoustic are all fantastic 👌

Fantastic
Okay, until now, I've spent years thinking the line was "He has no FACE and he has no name"...
It is
faith and he has no name
@@iMertin90 On this version you are right, but in the actuall track that Liam performs it's "He has no face and he has no name"
Also is he singing "drink to myself" or "dream to myself"
@@jonnyhatesjazz I think "drink"

DEAD END, PEOPLE ARE DYING IN DEAD END STREET
Anyone know the chords for this
Sounds like Cadd - Dsus - Em7
Am, fmaj7, G and repeat and the occasional E7 so end progession
(Capo 2nd fret??) verse = Am7, Fmaj7, G, Am7, Fmaj, G, Am7, E7 (repeat) bridge = Fmaj7, G, Am7 (x3) E7, Fmaj7, E7, G chorus = D7sus2/F#, Fmaj7, Am7, G (x3) Fmaj7, E7, G (back to verse)
@@robsol123 correct! I really struggle with the verse progression though.
Should have found its way to a proper album track, like so many other NG classics.
