@@KandWRailroader Oh yes I’m big on storytelling right now all the industries are trying to get ready for Super Bowl Sunday. Big potato chip and pizza day.
I was also, "not a big fan of sound," but I will say this, I did buy one with the Atlas Gold with sound, I love the clickity clack of #7. The grandkids love the sound, too! Now, the continuous running with sound, still not a fan. You do you... love the details and story lines you do.
Yes I actually have a running story on the railroad with customers and everything. The story line actually makes me go down in the basement and work the railroad pretty much everyday as time allows, because we have a story, right now we have a couple industries coming online new industries and they are getting ready to ship and they want to maintain a delivery schedule for superbowl Sunday. The one company Mega Pizza supplies the pizza industry they have distribution centers across the United States, but have 2 factories on our customer cluster line, one building processes vegtables and the other building makes pizza cheese and frozen and fresh pizza dough. The product is then loaded into Conrail refrigerator cars and shipped off to various distribution centers across the country. Snyder of Berlin Snack Foods is another customer on the line and they manufacture potato chips and cheese corn snacks. They have been working 24/7 to get product out the door, they just shipped a 60ft box car of Honey BBQ, BBQ and Sweet and Sassy Chips to Potato Chip Sales Inc, of Dallas, Texas, Conrail is going to send that car via Southern Pacific to Dallas at the interchange in East St. Louis.
I actually have more story lines coming I said in a video I never posted that it's the customers on the railroad that drive the railroad not the other way around lol.
I like how the layout is turning out and yes NCE is very easy to use and you gave me some ideas to do my ho switching layout coming later on but i can use it on my n scale
Your layout looks good. I agree with you on the sound. I prefer to hear the growl of the motor. I have mostly DC engines and will incorporate DCC eventually so that I can run the handful of my DCC/sound locomotives. It’s too costly to upgrade all Of my collection to DCC. Keep up the great videos. New subscriber.
I actually like the growl of the motor too, and mine growl alot lol, but they always get the job done! I have a couple DCC locomotives, but I don't have a DCC system/controller and won't for sometime yet, but I keep moving on with my 18watt transformer!
@@SantaFeBob Thank you for your subscription. As I get older I have become a bigger fan of Santa Fe. I was a BN guy, but when I learned of what a well ran operation SF was I started to really like them. Conrail Wisconsin Central Santa Fe I really like because in my opinion they were really well ran railroads.
@@M22OHIO Santa Fe has always been a premiere railroad over the years. Mergers happen, but the memories of the old railroads linger on. The Super Chief passenger train is an icon and continues to be a train set that Walthers and other manufacturers keep releasing every few years. The war bonnet paint scheme is very memorable. Lionel’s F3 from the 1950’s is still one of their trademark’s. Even Tyco Trains from the 1970’s used the paint scheme on their catalog covers. Keep up the great video content.
If you ever think of adding another throttle in the future once you get your nce system. I would suggest looking into adding a WiFi module. Did that with my power cab and bought a uwt-50 and love it! I actually use it more than my power cab due to being able to walk around, consist, and mappable keys. Also I can bring it to my local train club since it seems like everyone has added a WiFi module to their layout.
As a fellow beginner with 1 year of layout build behind me, I can report that my NCE Powercab works very well and I like using it. I bought the basic starter kit. Not sure if you need the booster. I can have 4 locos running at the same time and the Powercab handles it just fine. Maybe do more research before you drop $800 Also, I agree layout reliability and functionality is top priority especially for beginners like us. If the Bachmann track works for you well then no need to change it just to satisfy "peer pressure". If it ain't broken, don't fix it eh 🙂
The Bachmann track has been reliable actually and it's not bad quality I have the silver nickle which is more expensive then just plain steel track and the silver nickle really doesn't corrode or run into any reliability problems, it's worked out well. I saw you have the NCE Powercab and everyone has it and they all seem to like it so that's what I'm going to get.
My opinion...given the size of your layout, unless you're going to run double-lashups on 3 trains running at the same time, the starter set will be plenty. You can still run extra cabs if you want to have more than one person operating trains at a time even with the starter set. I finally had to upgrade to a booster when I had four people running trains at the same time, and two of those people had two-engine consists...with all locos running sound. You might be able to get away with more locos running since you don't want sound because they will draw fewer amps. The starter set is good for about 2 amps...each loco, depending on size and how fast you are running it, draws about 1/3 of an amp I believe. You can always add the booster later if you decide you want to upgrade, which is what I did.
I did plan on running double lash ups and to have a local going and maybe 1 road job in each direction. I wanted to make sure I have enough power to power all the track and everything, which is pretty helpful. Thank you for the details, because I certainly didn't know all that.

I've not tried others but I really like the NCE PowerCab
It looks pretty intuitive as far as set up goes and alot of people like it and it's been given the best ratings across the board.
You don't need to retire your older locos. There are folks that do decoder installs for old/new locos.
Any suggestions as to who? I would be interested in sending those 2 away to have decoders installed.
@@M22OHIO There are places that have ads in model RR magazines & FB for decoder installs.
