This was his first innings as an opener. During those times he was slow. His strike rate improved from 1999 onwards.
That was his first match as opener.. even though he scored fifty..his strike rate improved tremendously later..he won many matches for India as opener than Azhar won as middle order batsman

The players were absolutely irresponsible and left Azhar stranded. A lot of times Azhar and Jadeja played incredible innings and made games enjoyable and memorable. Few innings of Jadeja I would say because he was not consistent enough.

SouthAfrica came back after 18 years in International cricket and we lost our first match with them and we had all the fuckall excuses with us.. it was only when Sachin played, we used to win.. and we had many bullshit players who were involved in fixing.. shame on them..
