The distance between the infra-red lights indicated the distance between you and the sensor bar, so if you put them closer to each other, the wiimote will think you're further away from the sensor bar and vice versa.
Yeah i've already discovered this when i was like 9 or something. You can also use the sunlight or some lamps to use as a sensorbar, even christmas lights
The sensor bar is just made up of 2 (I think the new Wii U ones have 4) IR or Infrared LEDs to have a light the sensor on the front of the controller cab pick up. And you know what also gives off IR light... Fire. And that's why it works.
@@Jacknoham that's the thing, it doesn't need to, that's why you can buy battery powered sensor bars, all the sensor bar is are 2 IR (Infrared) LEDs like the ones inside TV remotes, it's just backwards on the wii, instead of the sensor being on the TV and the light on the remote, the light is on the TV (sensor bar) and the sensor is on the wii remote, the "sensor" bar actually doesn't sense anything, all it does is provide a source of IRS for the remote to actually sense, and you know what else creates Infrared light? That's right, fire 😂
Even those USB sensor bars sold on Amazon work on official consoles. I thought sensor bars send data to the console via the cable, but I guess it sends it to the Wii remote, and the Wii remote sends it to the console
It doesnt do anything. The sensor bar is only a bunch of LEDs : some lights that function as IR blasters. So basically the wii remote is marking its position using the light emitted by the sensor bar. So in the end, the wii only gives power to the sensor bar.
lol...Wrong...The sensor bar doesn't send anything to the wiimote, the wiimote gathers the data itself. The sensor bar just gives an IR light for the wiimote to detect.
Holy cow!!! I never NEVER write comments on UA-cam; however, this is soooo great!!! Bought a wii for Christmas and it worked before wrapping but then the sensor crapped out. Nowhere has these on hand. Found this trick and it worked like a charm!!! Thank you!!
I have tea candles and I always complain about them just laying around everywhere around the house, but now I'm trying to look for them, but they're nowhere to be found. 😤

I have a wii ultra sensor bar that wont turn on (pressing the power button makes all the lights come on for 3 seconds, then it shuts off). I'll have to try this
If you're talking about the flameless (LED) candles, it will not work because they won't emit invisible infrared light the Wiimote detects like the sensor bar LEDs and the flame would. The visible colored LEDs we see everyday only emit light in a very narrow band at a certain wavelength.
I cant believe I have a use case for this. I'm assembly line softmoding 4 wii's and I want the wii's to be sat on my desk hooked up to a tv across the room. the cord doesn't reach I've been placing the sensor bar on a table half way between my desk and the tv. I'm actually super psyched to try this it will actually fix a problem I'm haveing.

Ours wasn’t working and I could t figure out why. Just opened where the SD card goes and pressed the red button to sync the remote and worked straight away. Haven’t used the wii in about 8 years so couldn’t even remember how to use it.
Can't believe I tried this...
Jacob R lol joker.
So you get paid to test stuff?
RED minION it works without the bar
CEO of safety
it works well with a fireplace!
nintendo should include candles instead of sensor bars in the future...
...but then again it has a very small chance of burning someone’s house
Ceseriyo Few and then you could buy separate ones because nintendo just LOVES money these days

Hey All!
Or you could get infared leds and wire it to a battery or something
(With the proper resistors of course)
so does the sensor bar
I replaced the sensor bar with a menorah on Hanukkah
Are you Jewish.
Lol I’m just imagining your guest wonder why tf is that in front of the tv🤣

so like you can basically just bring a tv and a wii console + remote outside
and just point at the sun or something
Late comment but when I pointed my remote to the window that worked as well!
Congrats

so technically someone could weld right in front of me and the light from the arcs would allow me to play with my wii if I lost my sensor bar?

how does it connect to the wii tho? it’s not wired to the wii

This is literally so cool I’m gonna use this to emulate on my pc so I don’t have to spend money on a usb sensor bar
No just spend the ten bucks on the sensor bar it's better than candles
@@sfaballman6467 It's pretty much the same. They both emit infrared so it works just the same.

that's crazy bro. I literally did this with the hallway lights in my house back in 2009. I don't know how people only recently figured this out.

_gr8, but can i use a potato instead?_
Add some oil to it and set it on fire
u can use an apple since it *apparently* has electricity. just plug in 2 led lights or something
All the sensor bar is just 2 infrared LEDs. Candles also emit infrared so it works.
It even works with birthday candles
ANYTHING THAT EMITS INFRARED LIGHT WILL WORK AS A SENSOR BAR.
Woah, this actually works, thanks
The wiiU gamepad has a built in sensor bar
So what does the sensor bar do again, and why did we need it?
It allows your wii mote to point and click on the screen

I just made a rough blueprint for a tea candle stand that holds the wicks of two tea candles 16.2 cm apart. The base is 20 cm long by 4 cm wide.
Increasing the risk of a fire hazard even more. Good job.
I left my window open and well, it started doing this with the heat my censor was broke and it scared me

Wii U but this trick will still work in the same way, cool, didn’t know that a Wii or Wii U chould do this.
and that is why I use the B button trick on the gamepad for the wii mode
Mind Blown! 🤯
I pointed my Wii remote at my Wii U censor bar and it was controlling my normal Wii’s hand instead of the one on my Wii U
you can also aim your Wii remote at your window when the sun is bright the Wii remote really works
Wtf man?
Remember gamers, don't light candles at home.
i use my phone flashlight and it works with everything else but I can’t seem to get the mii channel to work
I wonder if this would work with two laserpointer
I wonder if it works with electric lights
Do a gaming setup/game room
you could use 2 electric candles to do the same thing i assume
I thought it was fake tell I tried it thanks man really helped me

Part of me is scared The Candle is going to fall and burn my house down or it’s going to burn my TV down
As long the candles have enough space on the surface to prevent it from tipping over.

Probably a smart person who read the IGN all the way back in 2006 and also knew that candles gave off IR light

I tried this at home, and it didn't move well.... Very hard I could control the remote. Do you know why?
It probably depends on the two candle distance. You'll have to tweak with the distance to get it to work properly.
