Pretty impressed with the console so far.
You have obviously never used or played a Wii. GameCube games work as well as Wii games. DVDs were not able to be played unless you hacked it. No cartridges, no 3ds games. The small cartridge slots were for GameCube memory cards. The larger door is for the four controller ports for GameCube.

It's disappointing because a PS2 came before wii and it can play DVD's
the only reason Wii can't play DVDs is because Nintendo were cheap asses and put a software lock on it. My Wii is nodded to play DVDs.

Can I just say that the cartridge slot you found in your wii is to put in GameCube Memory Cards.
The DVD reader was going to actually be a function and in the Disk Channel there is an unviewable image of a DVD to the left of the two pictures of disks, but Nintendo didn’t want to pay licensing So they scrapped it

I just received a wii from my sister and everything is hooked to the comp connector power chord and for the sensor and I use the cordless controller to no control ver the cursor so I plugged one of the 2 basic controllers into the end of the wireless and had minor cursor limits but it would only go uo so I have no control of it. Any ideas of what's going on?
Fun Fact: The Wii is Abel to Play DVDs, but the DVD Player Gas been cut. Copyright Problems. But with the help of homebrew u can install dvd players and Watch Ur dvds on the Old White wii

There was something funny about my experiences with Wiis, Literally everyone I knew had a wii there house except that only me, my uncle and aunt, my cousin, and my nana who owned Wiis had at least one Mario game, everybody else had no Mario games so I had to bring my own Mario games.
I had a black Wii and it originally came with Mario Kart Wii. That game was my childhood and so was Just Dance 2014, Mario and Sonic at the 2012 Olympics, Wii Fit Plus, Zumba, Mario Party 9, and I think a couple others too. I had Mario Party 8 for a very brief time before giving it away and replacing it with Mario Party 9. I wish I had Mario Party 8 again.

The dvd does actually work but nintendo removed the functionality because they didn't want to pay the fee to Dolby but you can actually play DVD's on wii by using homebrew
Edit: the wii doesn't support cardtriges that slot was for a gamecube memory card
