I wish they would make a turntable with this level of build quality and the simpler looks of the SL-1500/100c

My thoughts exactly. Ended up buying the GR2 while I prefer the looks of the SL-100C.

Great Technics, 💚🧡💙 What is the difference between Technics Gr & Technics Mk ?

@arupnath3477, i assume you can read, 'cause you write comments.
means you can look it up yourself.
but i think, it's just to distinguish between the different models in their portfolio. it would sound creepy in marketing terms, to say it's a SL1210 MK12 or MK17 or or or.
      have a nice day.

Can someone just explain because I don't get it.
How can this turntable not be anything other than good for dj's. It's built like mk2's with the solid rubber mould.
You can adjust the torque if I'm not mistaken. The motor is improved. It has a pitch control. For the price what sense what it make to have a lesser pitch control than a mk7. Surely they'll use the same components.
Is because of the price tag and dj's can't justify the price so bash the turntable?
I hear a lot of grumblings and probably from DJ's that haven't even touched the thing.
If it's the feet, can't you just purchase mk7 feet?
I sold my 1200 mk's a few years ago and the only real option if I want the same build quality and true to feel would be to buy a set of these... Regardless of cost.
    Please enlighten me.

Using something like a Denon 103 can be a struggle to get enough head shell mass (or effective tonearm mass I guess) for proper control of the low compliance cartridge. In my experience, I added head shell weight and the supplied extra counter weight to balance or the sound suffered. I bought the DL-103 not realizing how low compliance it is and it sounded awful (noticeably worse than a N97xE or a AT-VM95ML) until I educated myself and applied the tuning above (yes, with appropriate MC Pre). Thought it was the stylus differences but no, for me it was setup. Also, it's worth mentioning something most reviewers tend to miss - the supplied head shell has a set screw which allows for azimuth adjustment. Mine was noticeably off out of the box and the micro-line cartridge sounded very unbalanced until I dialed in the azimuth. I'm not at all a golden ear but I do actually hear the differences with proper set up given all the cartridge and geometry fussing about for setup. I've since bought a bunch of head shells to experiment and realized after the fact most of the cheap ones do not allow azimuth changes - I encourage buying ones which do allow for azimuth adjustment. Absolutely love the TT. Mine did not come with a 3mm spacer as mentioned by some other reviewers, so again - the 103 needs one. The tonearm on the black model is silver not black - doesn't bother me - maybe just a variation on later shipping models since I bought mine roughly Feb 2024. Copied most of this from other videos since I see this info often missing.

The 1200GR(1) also incorporates the anti-cogging thing too... And that other Sigma thing no doubt makes inaudible changes at best. Lol... Nope, the GR (1) is still the best buy.

Is GR2 good for dj and scratch ?? (as MK7)

  • @Aintry1

I use the 1210GR for archiving. I doubt I would notice any difference in performance in the GR2 that would justify an additional $400 in expense.
Also, there's no way a strobe light can compete with modern internal electronics for precise speed regulation. I guess Technics feel they need the strobe as a branding device. Note that the new Denon 3xxx DD deck doesn't have a strobe. A modern DD TT doesn't need one for calibration.

It’s a tough call for me. To be honest, after living with the SL100C for a couple years (blk w/silver accents) I find myself missing the ‘classic’ look of the silver Technics.

the pitch control on the GR version was not good for DJ use... has anything changed on the GR2?

Do you have 2 GR2s? do they keep the mix or are they like normal GRs? I sold them I had 2 1200GRs but you couldn't manipulate the disc at high torque you could only mix pitch and I sold them

Maybe there was an issue with the early production runs.

I wish all these turntables came with the option of auto return...I know I'm in the minority, but I want all these bells & whistles with auto return...The 1510 or whatever the last model with auto return was looks like crap...How hard would it be to include it and have a kill switch for DJ types that don't want it?...I love the look and design of the 1210GR2, but I want it to return after playing...For $2000-$2500 you ought to be able to get the combination of features you want...Anyway...
