Using something like a Denon 103 can be a struggle to get enough head shell mass (or effective tonearm mass I guess) for proper control of the low compliance cartridge. In my experience, I added head shell weight and the extra counter weight to balance or the sound suffered. I bought the DL-103 not realizing how low compliance it is and it sounded awful (noticeably worse than a N97xE or a AT-VM95ML) until I educated myself and applied the tuning above. Thought it was the stylus differences but no, for me it was setup. Also, it's worth mentioning something most reviewers tend to miss - the supplied head shell has a set screw which allows for azimuth adjustment. Mine was noticeably off out of the box and the micro-line cartridge sounded very unbalanced until I dialed in the azimuth. I'm not at all a golden ear but I do actually hear the differences with proper set up given all the cartridge and geometry fussing about for setup. I've since bought a bunch of head shells to experiment and realized after the fact most of the cheap ones do not allow azimuth changes - I encourage buying ones which do allow for azimuth adjustment. Absolutely love the TT. Mine did not come with the 3mm spacer as mentioned so again - the 103 needs one. Copied this from other videos since I see this info missing.
I wonder how many of these fixes actually eliminated problems you can hear. I'm sure if you hook up special scientific equipment you can detect these anomalies but has anyone actually HEARD cogging on a Technics? Is cogging even a real issue with the SL-1200MK2 ? Sometimes I think these manufacturers prey on our OCD tendencies and justify cost with snake oil.
There is no cogging issue with the Mk2, I'm sure people were identifying the difference in presentation form a belt drive turntable and attributing to something they are theorizing about as the difference. I currently own a 1200GR and an MK2, but for the modifications I've made to the GR the turntables sound almost the same despite the different motor technology.
I don't understand. Where is the review? I already saw dozens of video's introducing the GR2, but how does it compare to the GR? Technics claims that the improvements are significant. Are they?
I thought the platter of the the GR and the GR2 are the same? Its just 0,8kg heavier than the SL 1200mk5 Version wich was build till 2010? So Its "just" the delta sigma drive, the power supply and a cleaner look that has changed to the GR.@@ListenUp
@@ListenUpactually acording to technics the GR and the GR2 shares the exact same specs - only the new sigma drive has enhanced. Same platter, same tonearm, same weight.
GR2 has some improvements-low noise power supply, damper platter, delta sigma drive. But GR is a great table that I would stay with if you are happy with it. If you're looking for some minimal upgrades you could explore a cartridge upgrade. However, it you really want a higher performance table overall, and are ready to make a significant leap, then go with SL-1200G or 1210G-K in black.
@@agx502 read the upgrade list, all looks besides this one thing that could fix cogging even further, something the audiophile world isn't even shure if it's real or a myth
@@DG-ie5ip ok so Matsushita redesigned the power supply and motor control system for no reason whatsoever? If you don’t think the price represents fair value then just don’t buy one. Simple.
I love my japanese SL-1210GR.
I will stick with it.

Yes, there was one time I was dancing in the club and I just had to stop because of the Technics notable cogging. NOT!
Cogging its a made up thing by the brands that couldn’t afford to design a direct drive system or they didn’t want to buy it from other producers

Heavier platter, power supply, and delta sigma drive-by no means design overhaul but our in-house GR fan likes the updates.

Great turntable, 💕what is the main difference Technics GR series & Technics MK series ?
I wonder if the DeltaSigma (PWM) technology will trickle UP to the 1200G ?
G don’t deserve it🤣🤣
Looking forward to watching this review
Slick vids guys.
So is it worth it to upgrade from the 1200GR to the 1200GR2s?

why someone should upgrade from 1200 gr that will last 20-30 years?
GR & GR2 have same platter and same specs. @@ListenUp
Some of the best turntables
have issues.
All the 'improvements" to the 1200GR(1) are at a sub-hearing level. Marketing (inconsequential) speak... Nope, the GR(1) is still the best buy.
Got to pay The Technics tax just like Marantz receivers.

S.l.1200.
More importantly, who cuts your hair?
My Cheech & Chong albums sound better on the $4400.00 sl-1200 master class, so not gonna get the gr2.
They done nothing to this table, it's just a price hike
So you know more than the R&D team at Matsushita ???
