- Lust is the most pervasive sin in all of western culture, but how does the Church define "lust?" Why is it considered a Deadly Sin? Hear Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, discuss what the Catechism calls “disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure.” He will also talk with Maria Vargo, the actress who portrayed St. Faustina in the play titled “Faustina: Messenger of Mercy.” They will discuss how Divine Mercy helped Maria turn her life over to God.

I was a porn addict for 20 years. I was also a very fallen away person. Toward the end of the addiction, in the dregs of my misery, I asked the Most Blessed Holy Mother for help. And then, little by little things changed. I fell totally in love with Her. I started becoming interested in the saints of the church like Saint Faustina, Maximillian Kolbe and St. Louis de Montfort.
I consecrated myself to Her, then the brown scapular, completed RCIA and became a bonafide dyed in the wool Catholic. I can't imagine every being anything else. I've been porn free for almost 2 years, pray the chaplet and rosary daily. My devotion to the Lord and His amazing Mother is all encompassing and part and parcel of my daily routine. To be given this grace of conversion from the Lord has been the most profound, life-changing thing that has ever happened in my 51 years of mortal life. And I've done a lot of things. I'm a husband, dad, veteran, college grad, hunter, biker, etc. Nothing in this life can compare to the love that Jesus wants to give us. God is good. Ave Maria, viva Cristo Rey.
I have close friends who have gone porn addiction. It's not easy to overcome. Know that God loves you and all is possible through Him. Viva Christo Rey!

Fr Chris, as the “Seven Deadly Sins” continue on “Living Divine Mercy”, I gotta say I’m a big fan of this series! Our world today is filled with abundant temptations.and this show is teaching us how to best overcome them. Today’s episode is timely as most people in our secular society today find it easier to give in to lust than to fight against it and remain chaste. Thank you for reminding us that, In our weakest moments, we best call upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Joseph to help us live a life of virtue. As a guitarist in our parish choir, I was preparing songs for use. Just as the words "Amazing Grace" was mentioned, I flipped the hymnal book to "AMAZING GRACE". Then, just as The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy was mentioned, I noticed that it was already The Hour of Mercy, which prompted me to pray ... for the whole world. Thank you again Fr. Hello Fr. Chris. I had lived a life of fornication, by the grace of God for the past 10 years I have gave my life to God I have been living the life of chastity and God gave me the strength not to sin anymore in that life style. I prayed to God to take all feelings away. I love my father in heaven.

This is very helpful as lust seems to be the primary vice I struggle with. I struggle with the disordered desired and inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. And I pray for purity of heart in Christ.

Lust is one of the seven deadly sins that I’m easily vulnerable to. Why? Because truth to be told back in the summer of 2019, I was with my former girlfriend and I visited her. Once I came over to visit her, I thought the visit was going to be honest and decent. Then she and I were making out. But it was more than just making out. She & I had sexual relations. I don’t know how long it lasted but afterwards, I felt emotionally overwhelmed and guilty and I told my mom about it and she could tell that I was upset and she took me to a Catholic priest for the sacrament of reconciliation and I told the priest what I did and he told me for my penance to say a decade of the rosary and the prayer to Saint Michael the archangel to keep myself on the path of righteousness and holiness. And there was another time when I was with my former girlfriend. She & I were at a movie theater and in the middle of the movie, she had me touch her inappropriately. After doing that inappropriate thing, I was feeling guilty and I washed my hands. And why would she make me do these despicable things? Well she was considered a non practicing Catholic Christian and she had no moral decency. And at some point in my life, I called off the relationship with her and now that she’s no longer with me, I can focus on being single and celibate. And wait for my future Catholic Christian girlfriend. Whoever she is.

Father, I was interested in sexual abstinence yet when I asked my mother about it, she, being a victim herself of sexual assaults as a child, gave me e bad advice. Looking for respect was the words we used yet it never occurred that we could have “God mind” with chastity. Sexual abuse distorts everything about sex and relationships.

Great series and this topic is especially poignant. So much struggle in this area. Jesus help.
Her experience with St Therese giving her a red rose is so true, I can relate as St Therese has done the same thing to me years ago when I asked her if the person I was seeing is the right person for me to marry. No one gave me a rose but a single red rose was left on a stone sticking on a beach shore. I've seen the Filipino version of St Faustina's movie in the past & it was a very inspiring one that left its mark in my life.

Great interview with actress who portrayed Sr Faustina. For women, the sin of lust really isn't low on the list of deadly virtues. When a woman is either the victim of or a participant in lust outside marriage, she may conceive a child and be strongly tempted to kill the child thru abortion. Choosing life is great, but single motherhood is very tough and is difficult on the child. Adoption is also a great option, but is a tremendous sacrifice of love for the mom. Lust has serious, often lifelong and/or life-and-death consequences for women and the children conceived in lust.

I've been struggling with this for 20 years, partly due to me leaving the church, but it's been quite a battle saying no, I'd say 7 months last year I succeeded, but this year I fell twice on 2 occasions.

Father, I wish you had taken on a little more practical application for those who are single-again or widowed, and the traps of lust that await them, sometimes even sabotaging them. Those who have lived as married persons and are left, through a divorce/separation or death, are often visited in vivid dreams during sleep, because they have lived with spouses in sexual relationships that have been taken away. Practical advice on how to overcome this would be helpful.

Our Lord created beautiful women, and it may be his best work. Even if I choose to live in a cave to avoid women, a cave woman will come along sooner or later.
Perhaps when being told that lust is the least of the vices and that only prostitutes know how to better exploit another person to their advantage through their lust is one factor as to why men right now believe that they are not good as women when it comes to valuing their own virginity before marriage and valuing their own chastity during marriage too.
Fr. Alar, I had contacted you about joining your association, but receiving no mail. Because my wife is an extreme fundamentalist and mail will just cause problems in my home. You directed me to your assistant, who I must have upset when I talked about fundamentalism because he very very bluntly told me that Catholics and fundamentalists are not on the same team and now I am receiving mail at my home. I just wanted you to know because some peoples Christian walk is more words than action.
