Watching the Gear Vendors Overdrive control light action in the 56 F-100

  • I'm doing this one because I have not seen any videos that show the control head lights and how the shifting happens while driving. THIS video is mostly for information. I would have liked to have at least one clear area to nail the throttle, but it did not happen. Remember, I am driving and holding this camera/phone while watching for the Police--- Not so easy to get this done!
    I would LIKE comments from anyone that runs a Gear Vendors overdrive and how they use it for "normal driving" All you guys that use it when launching the car at the drag strip--- YOUR comments are OK-- But tell me the exact sequence you use and how successful and consistent your E.T. and and reaction times are.

    This demonstration NEEDS to be on the expressway, cruise along at 70 & show tack, then flip on the GV & show the difference and show any reactions of the unit

    Gear vendors overdrives are the best ever for motorhomes... they are most useful in the small medium size motorhomes ( class C ) .... they are beyond awesome for hill climbing and gear splitting.... have owned one for years on a fleetwood limited gas motorhome..... it has proved to be indispensable...

    The GV unit is a Over / Under drive or Gear Splitting auxillary transmission in reality. They are awesome when used drag racing. Going from 1st to 1st over then to 2nd and then 2nd over then3rd allows a engine to stay in its power producing RPM range by only shifting the GV unit and dropping half the RPM rather then the normal upshift loss.

      YES, These units work great on old cars... The 1924 Cadillac I work on just got one installed. How about a 1925 Rolls Royce? YES--- It has one.. No problem if you have the machine tools to make the modifications.

      This is great for old school muscle cars with 3 speed automatic.
      With a 4:10 racing rearend gear your final GV 3 overdrive ratio is 3:42 or better !

    Am I missing something? I thought the red and green light was to let you know when you could safely use the gear splitting feature. At low RPM's it would not be safe to go into OD in 1st because the RPM's would be too low to keep the Engine oil pump, automatic trans pump, Gear vendors pump and torque converter doing thier thing. Isn't there a push button to split gears?

    • @BBBILLY86
      @BBBILLY86 4 роки тому

      When the green light shows the road speed and rpms are safe too.

    My question is can the gear vendors unit split the gears automatically, or do you have to do it manually. I know it’ll go into overdrive automatically but I’m curious if it can split the gears to turn say a 3 speed into a six speed

    • @teamlovell38

      After first gear when your truck hit second gear vendor kicks in and then will split the rest of the gears

    • @randallgoss8668
      @randallgoss8668 3 роки тому +1

      And when it hits your last gear then overdrive will kick in

    You gotta get that in high gear and get it in overdrive see your speed and see your RPMs see how much savings on your engine you are getting versus rpm to speed fuel economy versus engine revs

    The most unimformative of all. I have the unit button on the shifter ( automatic) I can split each gear as desired. Manual valve body, 1st direct 1st od , 2nd direct, 2nd od and so on and so forth. It's just like shifting the high side of a 13speed Eaton big truck. It's the option of splitting each gear. GOTTA LOVE IT.

    • @rodneyracer
      @rodneyracer  10 місяців тому

      YES! All very true. It is a great unit. But most hot rodders use it for one purpose-- An Overdrive on the highway. None of them are pulling 40,000 lbs up the mountains where they need to split gears. Probably would just confuse them. Kind of like when modern truck drivers are in the cab of a 2-sticker-- They dont know why there are two shifters and some other stuff coming up through the floor.

      @@rodneyracer all was doing was a comparison as like in a large car. Using it only on the highway is a waste of its abilities and not using its full potential. Think about it all of the Big 3 auto makers have 6 , 8 ,and 10 speed automatics , same thing for the most part.
