The Wrestling with Memories podcast covers this whole period in way more detail, including more chat on the debuts, departures and Ultimate Maniacs greatness.
@@CannedHam2479 I consider their iron match match the worst match in Wrestlemania history. Steamboat/Rude made a perfect template for what the match should be, and Angle/Lesnar was my favorite Smackdown match ever. Bret and Shawn couldn't put their egos aside and actually trade falls, so we got an hour of hot garbage.
Bret Hart said in a shoot that both Bulldog and Warrior were getting steroids and/or hgh from someone in the UK. That person got busted. Warrior freaked thinking his and Bulldog's names might be on the drug dealers lists and told Vince.
57:00 Saw Animal and Crush beat the Natural Disasters in Germany on that 1992 tour. It was pretty evident that Crush was just a substitute for Hawk. They were not billed as the Legion Of Doom and Crush wore his bright and colourful Hawaiian gear. They also made separate entrances. Each with their own music.
I saw Konan/Max Moon before then at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Summer of 1992. He was billed as The Latin Fury. I'd never seen him before that. He came out in that metal suit, there was even a bulky helmet. He looked like a robot from a 50s sci-fi B movie!
I wish they spoke more about why this was more of a straight PPV as opposed to a traditional Survivor Series with all the matches being elimination style.
It shows the research that goes into this show. You all know the Finkel/Whippleman angle was taped for Memphis TV right? It aired in early '93 for the USWA territory only
Fun fact: This was not only Bruce's first PPV back and this was my first PPV (and the Prime Time with the Perfect face turn was the first wrestling show I ever watched). In hindsight, kind of a meh show, but was enough to get me renting old WWF tapes and ordering PPV's for the next few years.
Was BEYOND gutted as a kid when this main event ever happened. But as a massive Bret Hart fan back then, all that mattered was him being champ anyway lol. Although it felt like an underwhelming title match even back then, with him facing essentially a midcarder still in HBK for the strap. Would have LOVED to see him added to the Macho and Hennig team to face Flair, Hall AND Michaels... and suddenly that main event then looks like one for the ages, instead of a last minute clusterfuck lol. Also would have tied together SO MANY things, like providing a solid Flair/Hart title tension which we never got, setting up the Hart/Hall Rumble 93 match that followed, puts Hennig and Hart together since their epic Summerslam encounter, gives HBK some proper main event rub alongside Flair and Macho... could even (well, SHOULD even) have helped set up a Hart/Savage title match at Mania 9, instead of the awful Yokozuna/Hogan bs, which Vince didn't have the balls to even do. So many missed opportunities back then.. all brought on by Vince's panicking lol
Is Bruce not allowed to do ad reads because of WWE? I like the live reads though instead of spliced in. But I miss Bruce being over the top. Though, still enjoyable! Good show! Thank you! Video of Bruce! 😮😊
A few years later they did bring the 3rd member in to eventually replace Samu although I know it was originally supposed to be Yoko in 92. It wound up being Barbarian/Sione.
I got my cc debt dealt with, some nicotine pouches, erectile dysfunction medication and new bedding sheets all in 1 episode. The target audience for the show is an in debt southern guy who is trying to stop smoking, can't get it up and who is too lazy to wash their bedding. Winners. lol :)
I thought the most obvious question about this show wasn't asked. Why the change from the regular Survivor Series format this year? There were enough guys on the roster for five four on four Survivor Series elimination matches.
This is a fantastic question. I think if they had of kept the elimination matches format (bar the Coffin match) it would have been a far better show, there were a lot of talent not booked on this show.
I remember reading in the dirtsheets at the time that Vince didn't think that just having elimination matches would draw. So he wanted singles including a world title match.
Coming out of SummerSlam 1992 at Wembley stadium this is the card I’d have worked towards for Survivor Series 1992 . . . - Survivor Series Elimination Match: The Ultimate Warrior (Team Captain), “Macho Man” Randy Savage & The Legion Of Doom Vs. WWF Champion, Ric Flair (Team Captain), Mr. Perfect & WWF Tag Team Champions, Money, Inc. (With Jimmy Hart). - Survivor Series Elimination Match: The Undertaker (Team Captain) (Witch Paul Bearer), The Big Boss Man & The Natural Disasters Vs. Kamala (Team Captain) (With Harvey Wippleman & Kim Chee), Nailz & The Nasty Boys (With Jimmy Hart). - Survivor Series Elimination Match: Bret “Hitman” Hart (Team Captain), The British Bulldog & High Energy Vs. WWF Intercontinental Champion, Shawn Michaels (Team Captain) (With “Sensational” Sherri), “The Model” Rick Martel & The Beverly Brothers (With The Genius). - Survivor Series Elimination Match: “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (Team Captain), Virgil & The Bushwackers Vs. Yokozuna (Team Captain) (With Mr. Fuji), The Mountie (With Jimmy Hart) & The Headshrinkers (With Afa). - Survivor Series Elimination Match: Tatanka (Team Captain), The Texas Tornado, El Matador & Crush Vs. Papa Shango (Team Captain), Repo Man, The Berzerker & Skinner.
The last episode was supposedly number 350, which is definitely not even correct, but now this next episode is 363? Do these guys just put random numbers on these episodes at this point?
I def remember this and Bruce is right its like you woke up that day and it was like wtf where is everyone I’m used to I honestly thought oh they made the change and i wasn’t happy. It happened a lot around that time with sports like football and basketball and music and the cloths styles it was like ok i don’t think I’m going to like the 90’s to much.
As a kid I was disappointed that they dropped the traditional survivor series matches. I know the roster was too thin in 92 to do the concept in every match but I think the main event should have been a survivor series match.
I have heard nothing but great things about yokozuna over the years but I just never saw him as entertaining or anyone I ever had even 1% interest in watching
His first gimmick was “quiet” but he was very agile for a big man. His weight caught up with him though. It’s a shame he passed, as it would have been nice to hear him talk more and show the charisma we’ve all heard about.
I remember Bruce’s story on that. It was Bruce who took the call. He said he said his name was K Dawg… And he said I had no idea who K Dawg was, I knew him by his real name. So when he said, it was K Dawg Bruce told him, “Sure, send us a tape and we’ll have a look and let you know.” 😄

I can tell you this: as a kid, i thought his articles in the wrestling mags were all BULLSHIT! And i was like 11, 12, and 13 when i was reading his SH!T!
I wish Bruce and Eric Bischoff would do a whole episode together shredding Meltzer.
Get corny in there too
Everyone Conrad does a podcast with has the same opinion of Dave the mark meltzer
I'm so sick of conrad just staying silent or finding humor in bruce or eric getting fed up w meltzers bullshit..
I want meltzer on the podcast to so he can try to defend his reports

But I do want to see what happens when he brings up Mabel as the 3rd man
Conrad wouldn't allow it. He would defend his boyfriend to the death lol
Holy shit we can see Bruce! Awesome show guys!
The lead up to this show lead to one of the greatest face turns ever with Mr. Perfect turning face on that famous episode of Prime Time Wrestling.
What a great view seeing Bruce!!! Actually Alive
I'm still blown away that this show exists. Incredible. 👏
These are the best podcast online. . The ppv reviews from the 80s and 90s

Survivor Series 1992 starts at 8:53
Survivor Series '92 had one of my favorite matches on the card, Michaels vs Hart for the WWF Championship.
Very underrated match. Not talked about enough imo
Mightve been their best televised match ever tbh. I saw the Iron Man match live and the crowd was bored AF till the final 2 min of regulation

Probably not against another face team. Maybe against the Beverlies or Money Inc?

Good to see Bruce in camera for the first time in a longgggg time
As always I just love seeing you two together talking wrestling 🙌✌️
Would have been interesting to see how the card would have looked if it had of been the traditional 4 vs. 4 teams etc.
I wish they stuck to that
The Dusty voice is one of my favorite things ever. It's official.
"I'm just gonna smoke it" Bruce was feeling that
Get on with the 1991 Survivor Series please, Bruce wasn't there but he also wasn't there for the Rumble'92 and yet they did an episode on it.
Still waiting for Wrestlemania III.
