I was about 20 when I met Marion in Chicago; that would be 65 years ago. Last spoke to her a few months ago. We shared a lot of Jazz memories of good times at the Hot Club of Chicago and old friends. I am at a loss for words..so many memories.
Marian McPartland used to have a radio show on my favorite jazz station. I listened every day and I miss it. She is amazing! Her ability to improvise and/or adapt with other musicians is incredible. A true jazzicon.!!!! MMM MMM MMM
When I was in jr high ,I was in band class ,this was in the mid 70,s . She toured around to schools ,I saw her and she changed my life . I trace my love of jazz to her. I am forever in debt to her.
I've been listening to her Piano Jazz program on NPR for all these years but don't think I've ever seen a video of her performing. What beautiful hands she has. She just died yesterday. Oh, she will be missed. And now there are only three remaining musicians from the iconic 1958 photograph taken One Fine morning in Harlem.
It's such a bless and positive one can share the feelings and the love and the experience from our sweet pianist "Mamapartland".thanks Jazz Video (Big Fiend)Guy.Regards from Portugal,J.G.
I'm just reading your comment five years after you posted it. She continued to have the show through 2011, and many affiliates continue to play reruns. Your local station must have dropped her program. Try to catch some of those shows you missed on one of the national public radio stations online if you can't get it locally. She was a legend who just died yesterday at the age of 95.
Marian Is a beautiful person with a beautiful sound. How is a jazz pianist supposed to look? She has good sound and can play contemporary as well as the traditional thing that she played first on this recording. On Come Rain or Come Shine she explores quartal and quintal harmony.
Such a wonderful woman and a brilliant talent. She is greatly missed.
Marian your spirit lives on. Rest in paradise!
A marvelous woman and a shining jazz musician. RIP she is not forgotten
I love these type of shows, great musicians sharing ideas and loving eachothers music. RIP all of them. Health and wisdom to all, Erik the Netherlands

Outrageously gorgeous solo at 4.30 - what's the tune?
I've always said Marian McPartland was a national treasure - - and she wasn't even American. She should have been declared one anyway.
I agree completely
She was OBE'd by the UK and rightfully so...
What a life she had. Should have written a book.
What was the closing excerpt at the end with the bass and drums? I was looking to fimd the full track of that recording ...
she was awesome, you wouldnt expect her to be a jazz pianist by looking at her
RIP to the great Marian McPartland :(
nice.
she never misses a note.
HER VERSION OF "It Never Entered My Mind"..........IS ONE OF THE GREAT PIANO PIECES OF ALL TIME.
The link you provided in the description is obsolete.
