Thanks for including the finishing row!!! I already knew how to do the shell stitch, but couldn’t figure out how to square off the last row in order to do a border. Nobody on UA-cam except YOU thought to include directions for finishing this type of blanket. Your instructions are perfect. So: many many thanks! ❤
This is the first time I've attempted the shell stitch and I had been watching someone else but her ends were confusing me. I would get to my third row and by that time I was too frustrated to continue. I had to frog it three times. She wasn't making a lick of sense. I remembered your stitch of the week series so I looked it up. Boy am I happy I did. You make souch more sense and your speed is perfect for me. I know how to do the stitch itself but ending the row and starting a new one was what got me. THANK YOU!
Yes I always enjoy watching you showing me how to do different stitches. You are truly a blessing to me. GOD BLESS. Enjoy and love ❤️ all of your videos.
Thank you! You just. Taught me that the Shell stitch is not hard to do at all. I will be making a table run . I make it a point to learn something new every day. So you made my Day!! It isn't a wasted day.
I just Love the way you teach these stitches for those of us that are not so good crocheters, makes my work look great with very few mistakes that I cannot find and fix before I work to far past them
Thanks very much for an excellent tutorial, Glenda! I especially appreciate the finishing row info - so helpful for making a blanket. Love your videos. ❤
After watching your videos I aam once again using a Bates inline hook, except mine have the bamboo handle, which I find more comfortable. Thank you for great videos.
I love this woman. I've been doing this for 60 uyrs. I've slowed down . And I can follow her perfectly. And still write them down. All I need is her to do the CAT AFGHAN. EVERYONE DOES IT TO FAST FOR YHIS OLD LADY.
Thank you for showing how to properly do this stitch. Mine always came to tight no matter how loose I made my stitches. Turns out I never counted the first chain of the DC so I was skipping that one, which you pointed out so well. I will follow you from now on, you are a great teacher !! You have gained another fan
This was so easy to follow. Thank you, I've been looking for something like this and I finally found it with your tutorial. Thank you looking forward to using more of your patterns
I always shared how to make that stitch my mom would do it all the time. She tried to show me how but couldn't get the hang of it. It makes me think of my mother.
I bought the. Susan Bates ergonomic hooks. They are nice except that I had ordered a set of the Clover Hooks which are almost one inch shorter than the Susan Bates. Since I have small hands feel a lot better.💖💖
Thank you for this, it is very clear. I'm new to crochet a year ago....a slow learner so have only managed so far wash/dishcloths & 2 scarves. What throws me with patterns like the shell st is remembering all the dif changes at the beginning & ending of each row. I'm going to save this in faves & work on it soon. It seems though with all those dc in one stitch that to make even a small lapghan that it would take f o r e v e r!! haha. Thanx for sharing :D
Glanda your tutorial video is good so easy to understand and remember this shell stitch design. I love your color change way. But I am confuse about both side ends have so many yarns how I can do finishing for that ? Please in your next video can you will show that
I have a question. How can I turn this pattern from double crochet to triple crochet? I have memory issues and can't remember how to convert it. Your instructions are clear and uncomplicated. Thank you!
Linda Giacomozzi That would only work if you are working at least 2 rows of the same colors (or any even number). If you only work one row then your yarn "end" will be at the wrong end of the next row. I hope that makes sense.
If there are no ac mores near for the yarn she is showing you you can get Red Heart SS in Painted Desert print E300_303 at Michaels or Joanns it is almost identical when crocheted up.
I have to say I have had quite a time trying to remember when to do three double crochet at the end and when to do it at the beginning. Had to rip out many times until I got it right. I also found it very distracting when learning a pattern, dealing with color changes as well.
It all depends on what weight yarn and hook size you are using, follow the multiple until you get the width you want then just follow the pattern until the desired length. I hope that helps.
Glenda what is the shell stich where they use seven treble stitches and the shell sits in a v stitch? IF YOU KNOW PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I can get a pattern thank you
I'm making a granny shitch for a baby blanket.. I was thinking about adding a shell stitch as the boader how do I do the shell stitche on granny square corner
Use a multiple of 6 plus 3. This means that your initial chain can be any length you want as long as the total is evenly divisible by 6 then add the plus 3.so if you wanted your blanket to be 48" wide you would chain multiples of 6 until you reach 48" but be sure the initial chain can be divisible by 6 then add 3 more chains.
At the beginning, the instruction is multiple of 6 plus 2 - how many chains will depend on how big you want the blanket (and the weight of the yarn as well as technique influences this). I think the best way to decide is to make a sample (gauge) with a few rows, and measure it. If you know how wide you want the blanket, you can estimate from the sample.
Thanks for including the finishing row!!!

I'm enjoying watching while I work on a square like that. I'm on my seventeenth row.
Really appreciate you showing the row ends! Clearly shown. Thank you
Thank you! You just. Taught me that the Shell stitch is not hard to do at all. I will be making a table run . I make it a point to learn something new every day. So you made my Day!! It isn't a wasted day.
Working the pattern with 3 colors. So easy to follow your video. Thanks again for another great tutorial

This is a very laid back kind of stitch, and I will be working this stitch while watching a good Hallmark movie! Thank you!
Lovely stitch and the finishing row is so helpful thank you

Thank you so much! I'm doing this pattern because I learned it elsewhere but it didn't include how to finish the top
I like the way you change colors. Thanks!!!!
Hi Creative grandma! The shell stitch is beautiful. Thank you for teaching and sharing 👍
I always shared how to make that stitch my mom would do it all the time. She tried to show me how but couldn't get the hang of it. It makes me think of my mother.

I’m here from Doris’s channel (Rose Cottage Studio). I love this stitch, very easy to follow directions❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing🙏🏻
Just found your channel. Your instructions were easy to follow. You are a good teacher. Thanks.
Thank you for this pattern
I’ve always been afraid of changing colors, but you make it look easy! I think I’ll try it on my next project.😃
Very beautiful and very good instructions nice and easy to understand i love it. Thank you so much
I've made several blankets with this stitch. It also works up great in dress and sweaters.
I love that trick with changing colors. Love this pattern, thank you.

The stitch pattern is pretty neat. Going to start it when I finish my c2c square. I already have these colors in my statch. Have a great day.
I really like this stich. It goes quick
Nice tutorial. Beautiful pattern
This will make a pretty border for the blanket I'm doing now. Thanks. 🐨🐨
Thank you Glenda, this is such a pretty stitch. Maybe a good idea for a scrap blanket using different colors each row.
Have a lot of scrap. TY I will be doing this stitch and using up my scraps :)
Hi Glenda, thank you for the shell stitch. I think the shell stitch is very pretty. Lori Schreiner
Love this stitch
This is a lovely stitch and what a lovely pattern it makes.
Excellent instruction!! Thanks! :)
Glenda that's gorgeous.
Your right I love it!
Stitch of the week... love to make baby blanket plz do you have the finished sample so I can get to know how to make the border.😀
I used a similar pattern once, where the hanging yarn threads were incorporated into side fringes. Just an idea.
I use this stitch for big and baby stitch.
I like it and will do it
Glanda your tutorial video is good so easy to understand and remember this shell stitch design. I love your color change way. But I am confuse about both side ends have so many yarns how I can do finishing for that ? Please in your next video can you will show that
I fell in love with the red heart aruba sea color but I had to stop myself from buying yarn for a while 😢
I just finished a gorgeous blanket with this stitch. What edging would you use please? I enjoyed this project so much! Thanks for sharing!
Just finished a shell stitch blanket and was wondering how to do this edging on the sides ?
When I change colors a lot I crochet a few rows I stop and weave the ends in, makes it feel a little less daunting.
Thank you!
I have a question. How can I turn this pattern from double crochet to triple crochet? I have memory issues and can't remember how to convert it. Your instructions are clear and uncomplicated. Thank you!
Love your tutorials! Will you suggest a border please?
I would love to see a border for this stitch
Beautiful. I always have trouble with the edges. Not any more
Would you ever carry the yarn up the side as it is only two colors so all the carried yarn would be covered with a border no ends to weave in
Linda Giacomozzi That would only work if you are working at least 2 rows of the same colors (or any even number). If you only work one row then your yarn "end" will be at the wrong end of the next row. I hope that makes sense.

I like your Shell Stitch also when u double stitch five Crochet to make an pattern.
Hi CG! I don't like this stitch, I LOVE it! Thank you!
How do I make a corner to corner border for this project hiding all the threads left. Please guide me . Thankyou. Enjoyed doing the project
Also your right the varigated does not show the stitches. I tried. Was disappointed .
This is a beautiful stitch! Do you have a video on how to hide the ends?
I just weave my ends in on the back of my work through the stitches.
Very pretty stitch!! How many chains would you start off with if you wanted to make a baby blanket? Thank you, Glenda. Love your tutorials!,,
It all depends on what weight yarn and hook size you are using, follow the multiple until you get the width you want then just follow the pattern until the desired length. I hope that helps.
I love your all very nice but this stitch is very nice
Glenda what is the shell stich where they use seven treble stitches and the shell sits in a v stitch? IF YOU KNOW PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I can get a pattern thank you
I don't know what I did but I got off track. Anyway to find mistake? It's like 7 rows back. I started with a ch of 120 + 2 = 122
I'm making a granny shitch for a baby blanket..
I was thinking about adding a shell stitch as the boader how do I do the shell stitche on granny square corner
i want to use different colors so what do i do about the hanging threads?
What kind of borfer would you use?
How many chains does it take to make a queen size Afghan?
I think I'll make a multi colored baby blanket
I need a definite answer on how many chains please
What do you mean by a double knot?
How many chains would you do for blanket for this stitch
Use a multiple of 6 plus 3.
This means that your initial chain can be any length you want as long as the total is evenly divisible by 6 then add the plus 3.so if you wanted your blanket to be 48" wide you would chain multiples of 6 until you reach 48" but be sure the initial chain can be divisible by 6 then add 3 more chains.
I forgot to tell you not to make your initial chain too tight or you will have a hard time with your first row.
But how many chains
At the beginning, the instruction is multiple of 6 plus 2 - how many chains will depend on how big you want the blanket (and the weight of the yarn as well as technique influences this). I think the best way to decide is to make a sample (gauge) with a few rows, and measure it. If you know how wide you want the blanket, you can estimate from the sample.
I always use susan bates, I don't like boyl.

It is stitches you are calling chains.
