Having the civvies in the way makes it spicey. It is an interesting dynamic because there is always the chance that your opposition is going to be more willing to create an international incident than you are. I love that you broke out the Charlie Eagle for this. I always make time to watch GS fly the F-15.
I would say the flight crews of those civilian aircraft, when they realize there are missiles flying around, will have a dramatic increase in their pucker factor.
>And if you take a look out to the left of the aircraft you can see several various A2A missiles going pitbull on us. I hope everyone's wills were up to date before you decided to fly Delta today.
Reminds me of that one mission in Project Wingman where you have to shoot down military cargo aircraft and their escorts while in civilian-heavy airspace, avoiding hitting civilian airliners at risk of mission failure
(pssshk) "Ah...Good morning everyone on American Airlines flight 1132 for Istanbul. We're cruising at a comfortable 37,000 feet and are expecting very little turbulence." (pshhhk) "Uh, I'm not going to be turning off the 'fasten seatbelt" signs because there's a FOX-3 slapfight to the starboard of the aircraft. In the event we take a missile to the engine I'm going to need everyone to remain calm, make sure you put on your own oxygen mask before assisting anyone traveling with you, and completely ignore the fact that none of us are able to eject."
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Please remain calm. We appear to have stumbled into the middle of an aerial dogfight. The flight attendants will come around shortly with free alcohol for everyone. See you all in Valhalla."
I'm pretty sure that as soon as airliner pilots seen missiles flying around they would be looking for the nearest exit for that airspace with at least as much urgency as losing an engine.
I don't know why, I but really like it when your vids end with the touchdown at home. Something oddly satisfying about you bringing your plane home, usually in one piece, and seeing her arrive.
Every time you say "I should be ok" or "that missile shouldn't get me" I start to tense up based on how many times you've said that in previous videos and got killed a second later LOL.
The US -14B would win. The Ali-Cat's are 14-A's, and since we don't know exactly what changes they may have made to them, you have to default to what we do know for simulation purposes. The better capability of the -14B's airframe and engines just from a performance side will give it the edge, especially in a close dogfight. Lobbing Pheonixes at each other comes down to the missile, radar, and crew. At the end of the day it's not the plane, it's the pilot. :P
I'd love to see a video of trying to intercept the venerable SR-71 Blackbird with the best technology 2023 has to offer. Does an updated MiG-31 with R-37s even stand a chance at Mach 3+ and climbing through angels 80? Modernised F-14 with AMRAAM-D3s, AMRAAM-ERs, or speculative AIM-260s?
I just watched a video on this. The conclusion was: no. Neither the F-15 nor F-14 had any real chance of shooting down an SR-71. To even make intercept exercises interesting, the SR-71 had to fly low and slow, crossing a pre-set point at a specified time so that Eagles and Tomcats could even see it. They said, unsurprisingly, that the Phoenix gave the F-14 a somewhat better chance. Also had a superior radar at the time. The Eagle has a ceiling of 65k', but apparently it can't really go much over 50k' (?) if the pilot doesn't have a pressure suit, so the ceiling of the plane is kinda wasted. Wonder how the 5EX Eagle would do with the new radar and AIM-260s...
@@000-z8n I think I watched the same video, which is what had me thinking about it. Obviously it wasn't doable back then using the technology of the 70s, and that's what makes me ask the question about whether it could be done using the best, most modern, most capable gear in the world today.

While I am not yet a DCS player, I enjoy your videos a lot! What is telling you that you are at the gimbal limits while defending after also launching?
The radar screen has gate indicators showing where the radar is sweeping. When you lock a target it narrows to only five degrees or so, so you can put those gates up against the edge of the screen and just keep it there. Part of DCS charm is the level of realism that is put into the simulations. The better quality modules take some time to really learn the systems, but you get an appreciation of how well they are designed and how the real life pilots have to study their butts off to become proficient, let alone the best.
Would love to see a situation were the Russians use the air liners as cover for as long as possible. The airliner being basically held hostage and the F15 walk into a trap. The Airliner may get a mayday off, etc. The Flanker would pop out and take shots at the F15 at distance to keep him defensive. Of course his buddy would be around with a Felon to keep it interesting
Well, well, well, the F-15 wins again... color me surprised. The F-16 designed to be the best dogfighter ever, and the F-15 designed to never lose in air-to-air combat. The F-22 was designed to never lose in both air-to-air and surface to air combat.
