Crazy to think that if SOLT had gone with first choice casting, it would have been Gene Hackman and Michelle Pfeiffer. Which I guess *could* have worked, yet Starling and Lecter are probably THE most iconic roles in the careers of Foster and Hopkins.
Maybe she sees the film as a piece of art she was lucky to be a part of, while Depp sees himself as a piece of art who just happened to be in some situations that was filmed 🤣

Michelle Pfeiffer was the first choice for Silence of the lambs. I like her but I don't think she would have worked as well as Foster did. Annette Bening had to drop out of Batman returns so pfeiffer ended up playing catwoman. Both of those changes seemed like improvements over the first choice.
Besides the obvious facts about her for being a beautiful woman and talented actress, I just love her voice and the way she speaks. She has such a confident, powerful, sincere and razor-sharp intelligent voice.
She is not only a great actress and director but also very intelligent. She also speaks French at a native level, so much that she does the voice dubbing for her characters in French. It is amazing to read the comments of French people in French interviews saying that she does not have an accent in that language.
It's hard to believe she wasn't their first pick for The Accused and Silence of the Lambs. She gave such powerful performances and I can't imagine them with anyone else. I loved Contact and she was so great in that! Such a talented person.
Her career is so extensive and varied, she'd be a wonderful asset to a university film department. I can see her teaching a few courses - she'd be great.

"Smacking people in the head" could be her metaphor for being persistent, and that wasn't given to all her roles.
@@imamyousomtimes You are quite the simpleton. Jodie didn't actually smack anyone upside the head. What she did was quietly persist in her pursuit of the film roles that she felt would fit her.
I really like Jodie. She's creative, talented, motivated, and fiercely intelligent. She stars in two of my favorite movies (Silence of the Lambs & Contact) and she even speaks French fluently. She's pretty great.
Jodie's performance in Contact is my favourite of hers. I know that view won't be popular but she hits an emotional level in it that moves me every single time.

I always kind of forget that I actually love Jodie Foster, her acting, her movies. It's strange. She's so low key and under the radar, but when you remember that she exists, it's like - Oh yeah! I like her!
She is truly the actress who acts out of passion and for the love of acting. The amount of investment and devotion in every role really shows how authentic and talented she is as a performer.
The other actor in consideration for Clarice was Michelle Pfeiffer. Good actress, but I don't know if she would have completely owned that performance like Jodie Foster did.
I just cannot picture Michelle as Clarice! Meg Ryan would be an interesting choice, but the film/result would be different. Jodie was a perfect choice - a strong, willful person she is.
Didn't know that. Michelle Pfeiffer is beautiful, smart and sometimes even an excellent actress. But this? No f.....g way. Ms Foster was perfect in this role and made film history.
One of my favorite actresses. I love her intelligence, her way of thinking and especially, her way of acting. Too bad we don't see her in many films today as we did in the past.
I love Jodie! Sad that she didn't talked about The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, shot immediately after Taxi Driver. Apparently, she said she didn't liked that movie very much. But it's such a great movie, the script is amazingly good, and her performance is astonishing. Worth seeing it! Also, I love that she dubs all her own performances in French. She's such a brillant person.
Interesting to read you writing that, yet we don't know who her competitors were. Is this on the basis of she was more forceful than her rivals so she deserved it, or she played it better than the others would so she deserved it - flaws in either of those. Or cyperbole?
I find it funny that she has to bang on people doors to get roles still....like she always gives 110 percent. Why wouldn't just be like 'your hired' as soon as she asks?
Because there are hundreds of actors that think they are or just are suitable for roles and either the director or the studio have someone else in mind or they really aren’t suitable. Clooney’s Batman is a case of him being the obvious choice for everyone and failing miserably. Films are all about vision. The writers vision, the director’s vision, the actor’s vision, the studio’s financial vision. Sometimes they align, sometimes they don’t. An actor is only as good as his last job. Not even quality wise but style wise. Keanu Reeves doing Shakespeare speaks to that mismatch. So there really isn’t anything inherently wrong with her having to fight for her roles. Especially, if it’s roles she believes in. It actually adds to her performance.

I have enjoyed all of the Jodie Foster movies that I have seen, but I am very pleased to hear her say her favorite performance is Nell. I found her character and the whole movie mesmerizing, heart-wrenching, sad and happy all at the same time. Moved me when I first saw it, moves me now, even just thinking about it. I believe there are probably many actresses that could have played the role, but none would have given Nell the ethereal nuances that Jodie did.
Would have loved to hear her talk about “The Little Girl Who Lived Down The Lane.” What it was like making that movie and the themes addressed etc. Always creeped me out.
Nell is my absolute favorite movie of hers. Being a person that grew up undiagnosed autistic and struggling to communicate, even though her character is not autistic it really gave me peace to watch the evolution of Nell. She portrayed that chapter beautifully raw. It definitely was her best performance.
I freakin' LOVE Jodi Foster!!! Not because she was one of my first crushes, but her acting is so convincing. She gets into her characters and makes you believe she is going through each experience. It sux to hear that SHE had to beat down doors to get certain parts...when they should've beaten down HER door to get her into their movies. Thank you Jodi for being so persistent. Without it, we would've lost out on your great acting skills. Much love to a wonderful actress!!
Sad she didn't talk about Anna and the King. I know there was a lot of controversy around the making of that film but I just love it so much. It makes me feel all of the things.
Easier to say "google it" then go into it. But the controversy was related to the casting and the location of filming as well as the "romanticization" of what happened (even though it is MUCH better than "The King and I").
It's a lot more historically correct, and a lot less patronizing to the Siamese people. It's still a romanticization, of course, but I think it's a much better film.
I am fully aware of that, Rob. Maybe if I'd seen The King and I first I'd feel differently/have that emotional attachment to it. But having seen Ann and the King first, having read Anna Leonowens' diaries, there is nothing appealing to me about that film.
Love you Jodie! A lady I once knew told me she was in that coppertone ad with you, her name was Shelly. I grew up watching you all my life! Other friends worked with you as kids too on Courtship of Eddie's Father.
I'm almost exactly 3 months older (Aug 18, 1962), so I literally grew up with Jodie Foster movies. Through those years...My TOP-5 considerations when deciding on a movie to watch: "If Jodie Foster is in it, I KNOW it's gonna be a Doosie!" Thank you, Jodie, for being such a timelessly-captivating talent & a fascinating human creation.
I bet these vids go through the full filmography, and just pick out the best ones. Maybe she didn’t have anything all that interesting to say about it.

Being a person that grew up undiagnosed autistic and struggling to communicate, even though her character is not autistic it really gave me peace to watch the evolution of Nell. She portrayed that chapter beautifully raw. It definitely was her best performance.
I love this woman. Strong, bright, focused. Very inspiring.
Brooke Ann In what way is it better than the king and I ?
It's a lot more historically correct, and a lot less patronizing to the Siamese people. It's still a romanticization, of course, but I think it's a much better film.
Well the majority of audiences and film critics would disagree with you Brooke.
I am fully aware of that, Rob. Maybe if I'd seen The King and I first I'd feel differently/have that emotional attachment to it. But having seen Ann and the King first, having read Anna Leonowens' diaries, there is nothing appealing to me about that film.
I wish they talked about Freaky Friday! Haha
SarsLeitao And "Bugsy Malone"!
That's Jamie Lee Curtis and not Jodie.
Thats Jamie Lee Curtis. In other words the Activia yogurt lady.
IKR. So many people don't know about the original.
Julian Stefano Smolcic i always thought it was Jodie!!! 🤦🏻♀️😅
Contact is my favorite of hers. Such a great movie.
One of the best actresses ever. And I just realised she looks so much like the stunning Romy Schneider!
My two favorite actresses! Both magic onscreen.
I seriously want to see her winning a third Oscar
You would think her name recognition would count for a lot more! She seems to still be fighting for a lot of her roles.
I am loving these beloved celebrity' acting roles timelines. I can't wait to watch Tom Hanks timeline.
They really skipped The Brave One? That's my favorite movie she's in!
That movie is amazing. Neil Jordan + Jodie Foster = Cult Classic.
That movie really broke my heart.
That side shot is great.
Why She did't mentioned Maverick , Sommersby , The Brave ?
I also wondered why she didn't mention so many of her films like Bugsy Malone, and her more obscure movies like Foxes and Carny. Both I have on DVD.
She didn’t mention Living Out Loud either. I love that movie
Foxes
I bet these vids go through the full filmography, and just pick out the best ones. Maybe she didn’t have anything all that interesting to say about it.
Woman has made 80 films and directed 9 projects. They'd need an hour long interview to cover everything not 10min.
I'm such a fan! Probably the most important actor/director we have in the US (or at least in the top 5). Loved her in The Mauritanian.
I just bought the Screenplay "Silence of the Lambs"... LOVE IT!!!!
I am a (new-bee screenwriter) and wanted to read this screenplay... Love this movie!!!
Great Actors... Great Writers.... Great Movie.
