    In the video, he explains the importance of moving laterally if you’re rushed by an assailant. Both Myles, the Founder of Tactical Hyve, and Navy SEAL, "Coch", provide some tips to consider, too.

      I'm a surgeon. I fear a knife, by far, more than a gun, especially within about 25 yards (not feet, yards or meters is intentional). As a private citizen, it takes us time to register exactly what's happening and perceive the threat. We don't usually walk around with weapons drawn, so we need to draw from holster, purse, whatever, and engage. We'll be terrified, so hitting even center mass isn't easy. Even if you nail a left ventricle with a 9mm Europellet, a motivated opponent may have 10-20, maybe even 30 seconds of fight left. I don't want anyone cutting on me with a 9" survival knife or machete for one second, never mind 10-30. The scariest thought is that the experienced knife user will likely have the psychology skills to present themselves as no threat and get within arms' length from you before attacking. As has been said, among the skilled, there are no knife fights, only murders.

      Exactly...we definitely need to hold cops more accountable, usually not for the BS the media covers, usually only cases they know will create division between those who believe their false narrative & those who know better.
      Distance closes so fast plus 94% of shots fired at less than 4-6ft under pressure missed in real life. It’s nothing like the range unless a person has extensive combat training under real life circumstances & firing & reloading under pressure , which few people & only a small percentage of police actually have.
      Give cops 2 full years of de-escalation, Brazilian jujitsu, non-lethal weapons and fire arms training and bring back common sense requirements, including tougher ethics screening so we don’t have pathetic cops who literally lock themselves in their car waiting for more backup when their partner is in a 1 on 1 struggle.
      Legalize all drugs but the most destructive, In stages if necessary since we all know prohibition doesn’t work for anything but creating war loads, prisons full of innocent, & national debt. This will free up hundreds of billions annually & weaken the cartels & warlords everywhere....including plenty of the elite in positions of power who profit from it directly or indirectly.
      Neither mainstream side is addressing the real issues...

      Then you’re in the area of where his swing would be if he got close enough. (Natural swing) If you go to the back side of the knife then he has to swing kind of like a punch instead of a swing and it lol make it harder to get power behind that so. Really t depends on how he is trying to use the knife in what direction to move.

    • @TP-mb9rn
      @TP-mb9rn 3 роки тому +2

      Well, he can stab you harder if you're on his left, supposing he's right handed... cuts are not as dangerous as stabs, and they are weaker/slower in the right side too. It's also more difficult for him to turn to that side, the other being more natural for right-handers. Gaining a few cm of distance is not enough when you're letting the opponent moving his arms between optimal positions. If you have a melee weapon, then it's also better for you moving to your left (his right), as you will be turning in the best direction for attack, and your opponent in his worst, but this is way more complicated as in melee the defender can use your own mass and force against you. Also, if you dodge to the left an incoming blow, then a right-hander won't be able to do anything to you inmediatly. If you move to the right, he can instantly stab you from the side, which tends to be a very vulnerable spot specially against short blades. The only way to stab properly with a knife to something on your right, is with reverse handling, but this is way more complicated than in films, mostly unefficient compared to normal stance, and very easy to parry (propably at the cost of a hand hahaha better than your face or your throat). In these fights you need to know how melee combat works, not how fireams do. Moving sidewards was a good point, and it's better than moving backwards (excepting few occasions) no matter what side you're moving. It works the same in dueling. But saying moving to the opposite side of the attacking hand is better was not a good point, and generally it works other way.

    Good vid! This is absolutely great in open space, trade lateral space for time and create a tactical advantage. In any intense scenario or in a situation where you’re unsure of a potential threat being armed. Draw and keep your weapon ready. Quite a few NYPD cops who learned in the street would keep their hat over a drawn pistol, or down by their side or put the muzzle slightly in their uniform coat. Whatever wasneeded to have the advantage. Lateral movement can be impossible in hallways, stairs, vestibules and courtyards. Backing up might be the only way to move and, depending where you are, you may have no where to go in many scenarios so, leaving your pistol holstered will result in you being terribly injured or dead with your pistol in your holster.

We did this drill multiple times with sim rounds during military training and before long we were putting several shots on target every time. SInce the target is closing in on u there is no need to fully extend ur weapon and aim which wastes time.

Also, while moving laterally move towards cover, if available, park bench, parking meter, parked car, bush, planter, anything which can be used to slow the attackers advance.

    When you move laterally, you cause your attacker to have to change direction very quickly especially if he’s running at you full speed. This means that he has to use more energy and turn wider in order to come at you, when all you have to do is do a small side step.

      Have you ever watched a game of rugby? Or American football for that matter. A human being is a remarkably agile creature, I would not overestimate the difficulty a charging attacker will have in changing his direction to land his attack. A small sidestep really is not going to cut it unless your timing is immaculate.

    • @Rustebadge
      @Rustebadge 7 місяців тому

      Sorry sir but I have trained police officers to prepare for the gunfight for 34-years and lateral movement is not an advantage unless it is done explosively when the attack begins and within a moment of contact. usually, people will not run at you (like in this video) from 15+ yards away. The assailant usually gains the advantage by closing the distance without you realizing he is a threat. but this is an option if you can perform it violently while escaping or responding. No matter how fast these trainers say they can move, I have rarely seen someone who can avoid injury (especially getting shot) by this kind of movement. Ideally, move explosively when the assault begins or just prior to contact. Do not get over-confident thinking you can outmaneuver another person. learn to avoid and/or fight.

    Or practice a good teep (front push) kick. It's the easiest kick to master and is a very good deterrent against a running attacker. Gives you time to draw too.

      I was thinking a switch kick to move laterally anyway would be an effective counter almosy no one would expect. Finish it up by shooting them.

    Effective examples in countering a crazed knife attack has always been -- a grappling-style fall-back to your back, and using the length of your legs to maintain distance ... all while unloading your whole magazine. [Moving laterally assumes the enemy can't redirect himself]. I understand that students would be required to learn an MMA type technique for this application, and risk injury even in training, but such is the nature of combat.

    • @TacticalHyve
      @TacticalHyve  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, that can definitely be effective--one just needs to consider their environment and situation before flopping to their back. It isn't practical in many situations.
      Moving lateral DOES assume someone will redirect their movement towards you. It's real-life--they won't run in a straight line--it's just exaggerated in the drill to give students time to react.

    In FL when teaching to move laterally, we'd remind people "Alligators can run fast in a straight line, but can't corner for shit." Well, real life has proven more often than not that our instinct with lateral movement when shooting is to over-compensate and just a move at all causes the assailant to ask "What is he/she seeing? Moving towards? Running from? Is there help coming from that direction?" And yes, even in real world with all due respect to SEALs (and everyone who's served) that instinct to over compensate is human... perhaps going back to caveman days fighting with sticks and stones." Said another way: "You are a target at X-location. Get off the X!"

      Leftists don't acknowledge that Kyle was under attack, much less that anyone was trying to harm him.
      The leftist story is that he was a white supremacist and fired into a crowd of peaceful demonstrators.
