Mac and cheese at the Mac Bridge, perfect.
You can be proud of your bridge crossing! Did you know that they actually have bridge authority drivers that will drive people across the bridge who are too frightened? There was a documentary showing an 18 wheel truck driver huddled up in the back of his cab while a bridge Authority driver drove his semi across the bridge for him. You did great! PS I LOVED your cute hairstyle at the beginning of the video.🥰
WOW..an 18 wheeler needed a driver...I don't feel so bad now. I hate bridges. But it's a great service
Wow! That’s so interesting! I’m going to have to google it👍
I have been driven across. 35 years ago a car was blown, I was on the bridge that day and have never been able to drive myself across it ever since.
@@gollybop I am sorry for your experience. After witnessing that, I can certainly see why it would be traumatic to cross the bridge.
Classic Chantelle: “I hate bridges. This should be fun!!!” xx
Thank you, thank you thank you so much for all you do for your channel and for nomads
Wow you even found a place to charge your Jackery❣ Looking forward to seeing more of the UP - Thank you Chantelle and Joey 🤩🤩
OMG I feel your pain! I too get so anxious crossing bridges ♥️ Great job on pushing through it!
Beautiful! The UP is one of my favorite places in our entire country.
Mackinaw City has a little bakery with the BEST cinnamon rolls you'll ever have! Simply yummy!
I wish people understood how much of a fear factor moment that was! Chantelle Torrey, fear is not a factor for you! Proud of you! ❤
I definitely 💯 get how terrifying that was!! I actually stopped and froze up on the middle of the San Francisco Bridge roughly 30 years ago. Over the past few years I’ve had to drive over tons of bridges in order to go visit my mom and now I’m in love with bridges and the fear is gone.
I dreaded going across the bridge as well. And the thought of going back over it to hike Mackinaw Island scared me even more. But we took the barf barge ferry to go hike the Island for a week. I loved Michigan it was so beautiful. We lived there at KISawyer AFB until they closed it. My husband had to go and do and see all these beautiful places you all are sharing with us. It's so nice to see them again. Thank you, Chantelle.
I undo my seat belt and leave my window open and doors unlocked crossing bridges
Kudos to you for driving the Mac Bridge!!!
The water was beautifully clear and the sky was beautifully blue at that park before you crossed the bridge. ❤ Glad you reached a place you’ve wanted so badly to see. ❤️ Thanks for the video! Looking forward to the next one! ❤️
I watch you as I like that you show the area and places to eat etc. I like history but rather learn about it while visiting. Your videos are perfect for me!
I have always loved watching your videos and you always seem to go to a lot of places I've been or wanted to go, but this was so much fun watching you go all the places I was almost exactly a year prior. 😊 I'm excited to see where you decide to visit in the up 😊 yes staying along the coast is exactly what I did as well and I think the best plan 😁👋❤ enjoy!
Aww thank you. It really is beautiful up here!🩷
@@MyBasicJourney it is💖 I was completely surprised by the beauty and tranquility of the UP as well as upstate NY. If you haven't been it's also a fantastic place. I spent about 4 or 5 months there and could've stayed longer. So many free state forests to stay in🙏. When I was in the UP of Michigan and upstate NY I thought if it weren't for those 😳 insane winters I could definitely live there long term. ❣️😍
Beautiful video! Joey is such a joyful water dog ;-) Great score on the gazebo with Jackery charging hook up!
Hi Chantel and Joey, wow I thought this was a current video but it's already 9/16th. Happy you made it, I don't care for bridges either. Please stay safe ❤️🙏
Thanks for another very enjoyable vlog. Just enjoy each day, even in the rain, you may not get to see everything but take in and savour each day. Happy agate searching. Hugs
Thanks for the beautiful little adventures……..helps to escape the nuttiness! ❤❤
Do businesses or the community centers..let u plug the Jackery in? Congrats on the bridge crossing! 😀
I had anxiety just watching the bridge portion. I totally get it. But you did it!
So pretty. Thanks for sharing. You did great on the bridge! 😊
What a life! I know living out of the car has its challenges but the travel is unbeatable. Hope you continue to enjoy travels In The UP. Thank you for taking us along.💋
I'm 71 and have been across the Mackinaw many times in my life. I was 5 years old when it opened and I remember crossing the bridge for the first time ever and going to a cabin with my parents that summer. I've never driven a vehicle across it myself until this summer though, when I took a solo camping trip to the UP. I was really nervous about it but it wasn't a bad as I thought.
Ya did it 🌉💪! Maybe make a list for next year where you want to go to ease anxiety? Enjoy every minute of everyday! Thank you, Chantelle! 🤎🐾🐾
I don’t like bridges either, I was holding my breath!! But look how beautiful and you did it!!!! So proud of you!!!!!
Girl, you’re living the life!
That bridge was amazing! Good on you overcoming your fear and crossing!
Cute!!! Love your space buns! So cute on you. ❤
I was on edge when you started across that bridge. Wow, you go girl 👏🏿
Safe travels.
UP is beautiful. My Granddaughter was born up there
Another wonderful scenic filled adventure video. Congrats on crossing the bridge. I myself would’ve been driving as close to the edges. I could leaning over if possible. Everyone’s different, escalators scare me to death!! I am just loving this Michigan series.
You did it!! Oh I hate bridges too and moaned with you all the way. Especially the bumpy part...aaahhh! The Penobscot Narrows bridge, Rte 1, in Maine!!
Bridges are not my favorite either... But your gonna be glad you made the crossing...that water is wonderfu. And a light house...nice...take care, catch you next time
Woohoo! You made it! Thank you for this awesome journey 🙏❤
My sister loves camping in the UP she says it’s beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait till next one. ❤❤
I agree the grates over the bridge are the worst😮 one year we bought cheap tires for our Juke and my husband had to fight staying on the road when crossing the bridge grates😮😮 never bought cheap tires again 😬 Never had that happen in our truck so it was scary 😱 Hope you enjoyed the UP as much as we do ❤
I don’t like bridges either🙀 I was rather sick during this video 🤢 there are some VERY SCARY bridges crossing the Delaware River from NJ to Pennsylvania . Be safe. Enjoy. ❤️✌🏻
I think I put a comment in your last video about this video .. sorry !! Love ya !! Keep on trucking ✌️😎💕
I’m here for another awesome video and it’s the UP of Michigan! Thanks for sharing with us!
Love all your videos. Quick question how many miles are your van. Im undecided if to go with a Sienna.
couldn't go over that bridge because I'm afraid of heights. Be safe.
I’m so glad you conquered your fear of bridges because that view was awesome!!!! I have always been afraid of long bridges myself so I totally understand!!! I love watching you and Joey each week! Stay safe🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕💐
Man, it would've cost $27.99 to cross that bridge in CA 😅
That is a beautiful beach.
Hello Chantelle and little Joey from North Carolina. Tahquamenon Falls is a must see and it’s on the way to The Soo Locks, in Sault Ste Marie. This is a great starting spot for a drive along Lake Superior. And just so you know, Yooperlites and agates are pretty hard to find, but there are so many other beautiful stone, like unikite, epodite, pudding stones, quartz, Omars, copper and many fossils. Happy hunting and enjoy the journey!
I’ve walked across it. They have an organized walk every Labor Day. It’s freaky when you’re walking and you look through the grates and see the water below. Enjoy your time there!
I'm the same way. I remember a bridge that was combined with a tunnel that went through the water. And it had lights, of course. Which felt like strobe. And it was 1way for you the other for them. Worse thing. Coming back was foggy. On a bridge. 😮
when I get scared when we do something in our razor...my friends always tell me to just relax and enjoy the ride...lol...not always easy to do ((huge hugs)) you should not worry about doing everything because you could always go back and finish your list :)
Nice seeing you drive through my little town. Hope you enjoyed your Walmart stay. I used to hold my breath crossing the bridge but got over it after crossing it in our semi. Good view. Lol. Take care and happy trails 😊
I crossed that bridge in the 70s in the winter time.. I don't recommend going up there in winter
Yes the bridge is a bit freaky especially when you have to travel on the metal mesh parts.
There is an interesting spring fed pond/lake called Kitchen-iti-Kipi and you can take a visitor operated cable raft to the middle to see into the blue green pristine water trophy sized trout. This is probably one experience you won’t find anywhere else in the U. S. It is worth the 12 mile drive from Manistique. Indian Lake State Park is next to that area.
Hope you get to go to Houghton, a college town with a few great coffee shops! Houghton has a rich history of copper mining. Then drive up to the top northern point of Copper Harbor, a beautiful fall drive! I hope on your way south out of Houghton you get to see moose and possibly a bear, which if you are on the lookout can be seen from your vehicle. Every time we have traveled through this area we have seen a moose, sometimes two and sometimes a bear. The best area for agate hunting is the northern coast of Lake Superior. Especially after a rain storm. There are tons of beaches, rivers, and waterfalls. You can look agate hunting on Lake Superior up on the internet. Happy traveling!
I hope to visit this area someday. Why can't you charge your Jackery while you drive?
Ha! I love that your external monologue going over the bridge is the same as pretty much everyone I know who drives over the Mac. It's a tough haul if you don't like bridges, and you did great!! btw, where did you buy that mac n cheese? I'd love to try it. So excited for your UP journeys! Thank you for taking us with you.
Welcome to my neck of the woods 🎉❤❤ if you get to Marquette i know of some awesome parking for you
Ooohhh, I hope you're coming back down over the bridge in early October. You've gotta look up the road that has Cross village and Goodhart on it. Gorgeous scenic drive along Lake Michigan like a tunnel through the trees changing color. Goodhart has a very remote county park right down on the Lake Michigan shore. And an ice-cold spring to fill you water jugs. Stop at the party store for directions.
Joey looks like he is breathing very heavy while he is napping. Is he alright?
Omg I hate the grate noise. That is the scariest part of the bridge IMO. I always stay in the right / outside lane to stay off of them & I drive slow going over. Have fun in the 🐇 UP!
Thank you for another great video. I totally get the bridge anxiety, but bridges are some of the safest roadways in the country. They are inspected every two years and every little defect is called out in a report. To me bridges are beautiful and have their own personalities. I am likely a bit weird... I really want to do the UP and visit Island Royal NP.. Thank you again for taking us along on your journey.
I'm glad u enjoyed my home state. I'm too busy this year to make the visit up north. But I'm definitely hoping to do the tunnel of trees this year.
I was surprised there wasn’t a HUGE toll to go across! Chantelle, were there people driving slow with flashers on?
Did you know that even though they are pronounced the same, the Mackinac bridge and Mackinaw city are spelled different? Mackinac island is spelled the same as the bridge with an ac at the end instead of an aw.
Mackinaw Bridge or the Mighty Mac. That’s a great little park.
Great video always so calming and real thank you
The water is so beautiful 🌊
Very pretty! Off to a good start! Has you were able to charge your jackery!
Great video!! I did this trip a couple of summers ago and I loved loved loved Michigan! I stayed two weeks in Traverse City, in friends driveway. Great city!! Then I traveled to the UP. I have to say that experiencing the Great Lakes is one of my favorite trips so far. They are mesmerizing and just keep getting more beautiful the further north you go. Lake Superior is awe inspiring. I found a wonderful small campground for a great price just outside of Marquette and stayed for several days. Visited many sites in and around Marquette. I'd 100% love to do this trip again and explore more of what it has to offer. Thanks, Chantelle!
I lived in Traverse City in the 70s
All very interesting! wow 5 miles long bridge!
I am like you. I hate bridges and tunnels.
My Mom and Dad lived in the UP. My Dad passed away on Dec 31, 1980. The five of us kids met in the lower peninsula to drive to Moms in the UP. The bridge was closed due to a snow storm. Our poor Mom, we couldn’t get to her on the day of my Dads death.
Lol my feelings exactly on the bridge
When you get across the bridge, find a place to get a pastie! It's kinna required to eat the Cornish meat pies when visiting the UP!
I don’t think she eats meat. But the blueberry cafe has good food
Some places do have vegan ones😊
Arent you glad coffee is vegan ☕
I hate bridges too. Great scenery thou
I always drive over the grates. Hate to be on the edge
Lol, I felt the same way going over that bridge!
How are enjoying my home state ?
Welcome to Michigan.
You are so very brave! I would not be able to do it.
Michigan is beautiful
I hate bridges too.
Do ur vibe. Enjoy
my apologies..i laughed the whole bridge crossing!😂❤
😆🙏🩷
Have fun’s.
Love the area 👏🏻👏🏻 I was on Drummond Island early September…. Home of Esther’s authentic Mexican 🤌🏻
Thanks for the video vacation Shantel, and the jazzy music is lovely!
Are you supposed to change lanes on that bridge?
You really need to upgrade to a BLUETTI. They charge in ONE HOUR via wall plug, and about 5 hours with 200 watts of solar. Watch for sales! I got both of mine for 40% off.
I don’t work for them in any way. I just hate seeing you struggle to keep charged. ❤
❤❤❤
🌸 💙💙💙
Be sure to visit Christmas Michigan and get your stamp. It's on the way to Munising Township to see the Pictured Rocks. I hope I remembered the name of the town correctly.
Good job! Do you think this bridge is worse than the Astoria Megler bridge? I sat at Dismal Nitch 2 days getting up the courage to go over that one!!
I didn't like that bridge either. Lol but the one in Astoria isn't as scary IMO.
Also, I too stayed overnight at that place before crossing. Lol
Have you ever crossed...the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel? Now that's one...no Flippin Way! 🌉
That is a beautiful place and so happy you finally made it!!! That bridge just told me i would never get there. But hey..you DID IT!!!! PROUD OF YOU!!❤
Ya, I hated that bridge too! Yikes. Enjoy your tour.👍🇨🇦😎🐾🌊
The Mighty Mack! Welcome to the UP!
Sorry I didn’t get a chance to teach you how to Petoskey Stone hunt. I’ll be near Charlevoix if you come south again until Oct 6th.
Here's a terrifying sound to go along with your terrifying experience across this bridge! lol...wow, yea, I would have hated that too! I love bridges actually but I am not a fan of heights. When I went across The Golden Gate Bridge I thought I was going to be really scared but I was so excited to finally be there doing it that I never even got scared! lol
You did an amazing job facing your fear. Kuddos girl. I know that was hard.
All these beautiful beaches, how miss the water. You fabulous crossing the bridge!
I love going over bridges. Enjoy your day. Happy journey and stay safe.😊❤
