Thank You! LOL I ALWAYS have to look at something for a month scratching my head trying to figure out how to do something then I remember UA-cam and you great guys who do these videos.
You saved my bacon buddy. The manual for the fridge shows set screws on the outside of the handle. They aren't there. I was about to try and split the handle open, glad I found this. Thanks a bunch
Thank you!!! Your video save me from tearing the entire inside of the door apart to get to the fastening hardware... Imagine all the colorful language I didn't need to use when I would have found out that you can't tighten it from inside. Again, thank you !!
GOD BLESS YOU! you just saved me $$$..I knew it had to be like that when I didn't see an allen wrench point...but like you said I thought I was going to break it and I couldn't find an example...LOVE YOUR VIDEO...Quick, Clear & Percise! I did it before my coffee finished brewing!... you are greatly appreciated 🙏🏽...Dani Dunn
Super helpful, thanks! Our refrigerator door handle has been half on for months, your video helped me figure out how to take off the handle completely, put it back on properly AND tighten up the other one, thanks again!
Awesome video. I figured it was probably as easy as this. I was, however, preparing myself both mentally and spiritually to have to dismantle the entire door.
Thank you so much for this. Ive been waiting for 4 months for maintenance to fix my handle . Thanks to you and your video, I successfully fixed it myself. Thanks so much!
@@reelmeinent one of the doors on my Kenmore is lose but I be damned if I can break it lose pulling up on the handle. Almost lift the refrigerator off the floor trying to get the handle off. Is this common for the handle to be that tough to remove?
@@jerryhubbard4461 The handle should release with a little force. Just be careful as the handles for your model could be installed different. Thanks for watching.
OMG THANK YOU!!! my handle completely fell off and I had no idea! Ours was slightly diffrent, with the brackets staying on the door and the screw attached to the handle and then slides down into the bracket but, this was so close that I was able to use ot to figure it out!!!
I have old phillips type screw hancle on LG frig that screw holes are loose over years. How to tighten the screws so the handle is securely tighten? I tried to put in some wooden tooth picks but it did not work still. We have to fill the holes with something I guess.
That's a new one for me. I would think the screw types have a catch nut on the inside of the door that when tightened bring the screw and nut closer together. Could be the screw holes are threaded and maybe stripped. In this case you may have to use some type of screw thread lock material.
We have an Amana single door refrigerator (freezer on the bottom) and have procrastinated in getting it fixed. We had no idea it was so simple. However, our procrastination has allowed the bottom of the handle to be further from the door. Would your method still work without damaging the screw when sliding it up?
@@reelmeinent Thank you for your reply. The suction is very strong when opening the door. For some time, we found it easier to open the door by pulling on the lower part of the handle. Eventually, it became loose so we resorted to using the upper part. At the bottom you can see the screw and cannot push the bottom flush with the door. I wondered if it would bend the screw when sliding the handle up to release it. Until I saw your video, I had no idea how to repair the loose handle. Thank you.
@@LindaJohnson-wx1es Not 100% sure with the Amana's but I would think it is the same. Sounds like the mounted screw which the handle slides over has become extremely loose allowing for such a gap between the screw and door. There are clasp on the backside of the handle that slide over the mounted screws. Should be able to remove the handle as shown in the video then tighten the screws down, then slide the handle back over the screws. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Thanks again for your reply. I bought the fridge from Home Depot (here in British Columbia) 7years ago. If you don't mind, I'm going there and will show them your UA-cam. I'll let you know what they say.
I hold the handle like your showing and Ive tugged and tugged. It does not and will not go up like the video shows. In fact its moving the whole door up a little what I jerk on it. Why isnt mine doing like the video shows? :(
Weird twist here. I watched this video and some others, but my handle would not come off despite hammering it up with a rubber mallet. It turns out that my handles were installed upside down originally by whoever assembled it. The moral of the story is, if you find that pulling up on the handle doesn't work, try pulling DOWN!
I wish the camera person had legs to scoot to their left to actually film the prying off of the handles but....alas, this was free to watch. (Apart from my wifi/phone bill) 🤣
Two possibilities here. 1. Your handles are installed upside-down. 2. Your handle is so loose that it changes the angle of pulling it off the screws. Start with the good side. Pull it off. If it doesn't pull up, try pulling down. You gotta use some elbow grease, about enough to rock the fridge around. Put the good handle back on. Make sure it lines back up properly. On the Frigidaire it's a two-stage lock. If the screw is super loose, jiggle it until it comes completely out of the door. Now apply upward (or downward) pressure on the handle, but only the part that's still attached. Be careful not to scratch the door with that screw. Once the handle is 100% off, you need to remove the screw from the mechanism. There's a tensioner in the handle to keep the screw locked in (see other end of handle). Get a fairly big screwdriver and put pressure on that tensioner to get the screw out. It's trickier than it sounds. Be persistent. Once you have the screw in hand, put it back in the door and tighten it firmly. Tighten both of them. Replace the handle, and make sure it lines back up with the good handle.
@@metaltrekman I just checked mine. Stand real close and grab that handle high and low. Don't jerk it. Controlled force upwards. Try both handles and see if one side is tighter.
Camera guy needs to be fired!!! Couldn't see through your back. UPDATE: After learning that a child was in control of camera, common sense led me to do the right thing.
