I use baking soda - Vinegar combination on all my sink drains. Kids like watching the chemical reaction.

Weird twist here. I watched this video and some others, but my handle would not come off despite hammering it up with a rubber mallet. It turns out that my handles were installed upside down originally by whoever assembled it. The moral of the story is, if you find that pulling up on the handle doesn't work, try pulling DOWN!

Mixing vingar and baking soda looks impressive but its kind of like adding cold water to hot water- they cancel out. Straight vinegar would be better

It worked! I also unplugged the power to the dishwasher which reset the sensor that is in the drain, I highly recommend doing that

Thanks for this! Didn’t even think about using the metal strainer as a double boiler. All of my metal bowls won’t leave room for steam to escape. Worked great for a candle jar I wanted to empty and refill with new wax!

But I think your 10 minute video could have been just as thorough in less than 3 minutes- *Scrape the wax off with a plastic scraper *Use 70% isopropyl alcohol on a clean cloth and rub gently to get residue off. *Use another clean cloth with water to get the alcohol off. I'm going to be kind and tell you that this is a bad idea. An acid and a base will react chemically to form an entirely new substance. It just so happens that vinegar and baking soda will forma rock-like substance that will make your clog become encased in something akin to concrete. Its water soluble but you will have the worse time of your life trying to get it to dissolve because its stuck inside your drain with the CLOG! Seriously it bubbles and fizzes because its reacting and changing into something completely different. So just because it bubbles and fizzes doesn't mean that its churning and mixing everything up. It doesn't work like that and indeed it will be just the opposite. (I have the thought that plumbers are the ones who encourage this technique because it drums up business for them since that will be your only choice other than constantly adding water for a year until it literally decays). Don't be so rigid and anal. Things don't necessarily work the way that your free time imagination dreams up. Acid and base chemically react and that is basic science and if you do this to your clog you will wish that you hadn't. Go buy a regular drain opener or if you must then just use the straight vinegar and flush it with hot water, over and over for one to four weeks or more and it will eventually work but if you mix baking soda the reaction will be totally opposite of what you want to occur. If your rigid mind can't believe me then do a search ignoring the listings that say to use it and look for the listings that say "why not to use it ...". I have nothing to gain trying to warn you away from this misguided idea, so do yourself a favor and don't make this gimmicky mistake.

Right as I started contemplating unscrewing bolts, I saw your video. Thank goodness, as I'm a terrible handyman. Now I get to chill for two hours instead of using all three hours messing with my dishwasher.
