    ...and I thought it was just me....thank you. Stitch markers are GREAT! Dont crochet without, I have developed a habit of using them. When I reach for my yarn and hook i grab them to. Just remember, "stitch markers are my friends, they make me happy" 😉

    I think I would get it all wonky because some patterns would say ... crochet to end, chain 2, turn, SKIP first double crochet, then continue across. 🤷‍♀️. I have to admit 🤭. Some baby blankets were off! 😂😂😂🤦‍♀️. Thanks for the tip! 👍🏻

    Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been crocheting for years, but have always had this problem. I think that part of my problem is that I have such a tight gauge. I don't know why I crochet so tightly, but the stitches are so tight that I often cannot tell when I am truly at the end of the row.
    Do you have any tips on how I can crochet more loosely?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 років тому +1

      really practice is the only advice i can give. you can also try using a larger hook as well

    • @msbernie1970
      @msbernie1970 6 років тому

      bobwilson123 I guess I will just have to keep practicing. Whenever I use a larger hook, the gauge goes wonky and everything goes out of proportion. I'll keep at it. Thanks for the reply. 😊

    I made a blanket suppose to be about 40 × 40 but the center is like 37 it looks more like a star, what went wrong?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  2 роки тому

      You could have possibly missed a stitch or two is a few rows. You may be able to block it out to an even edge.

    Haha, I’m a beginner, and my first try looks exactly like that wobbly, stitch-missing thing. I couldn’t figure out where my stitches went, so this was a BIG help! Thank you!

    If you were following a pattern and followed your way of doing a stitch into the first stitch instead of a chain then into the next how would you incorporate that into the pattern ?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  7 місяців тому +1

      You would just ignore what the pattern tells you for the first stitch.
      For example, if the pattern says chain 2 and then half double crochet in the next stitch, ignore the chain 2 and do it this way instead.
      Hope that helps. Thank you for watching my video.

    I'm making one now... Any way to fix it after the fact?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  3 роки тому

      it really depends on the mess up and how many rows are off. if it is just a couple rows you may be able to get away with it but any more and you may just have to frog back to fix it. you could try to hide it with a border but sometimes that doesn't really help either

    I am making a baby blanket. The number of rows, so height of the stitch, is meeting gauge. My blanket is looking like a parallelogram though, even with using a stitch marker and counting the number of stitches in each row, so this is correct. What can I do to correct this please?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  2 роки тому

      Hello. I am not sure why it would be doing that, it could be that the first row was looser and now you are used to the pattern your stitches have evened out.
      How many rows have you completed?

      @@CrochetwithClare Thank you so much for responding Clare. I figured it out. I had the rows facing me vertically, instead of horizontally. Have a wonderful evening!

    Hiya, thank you so much for that. Very helpful! But do you have any suggestions for how to rectify a project which is currently 'pyramiding' without pulling it out and starting again?? I have already done that once and really don't want to do it again! :( Again, great video. Very clear an informative. Thanks so much.

      I am so sorry for the slow reply! I promise I am not usually this slow at responding. Been changing over the website and took longer than expected
      Have you been using stitch markers at both ends of your row? Unfortunately it can be very tricky to fix, have you used the same colour for the whole blanket so far?

      @@CrochetwithClare Now I'm sorry for the slow reply. I have pulled it out several times since posting that comment!! It is really crazy, but I am having the devils own job with this project!! I have created several blankets, several pairs of fingerless gloves, and my piece de resistance.... a cardigan for my daughter! But this cardigan for me is just driving me nuts! It is a simple (seemingly) rectangle design, then add collar and sleeves. But the measurements never seem to quite work out. I have pulled it out I think 3 or 4 times so far. But, I am not going to let it beat me! Thank you again. Take care x

    Do you have a pattern for straight single crochet

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  Рік тому

      What type of pattern are you looking for? Hats, blankets, scarves? I have a lot of different types of patterns that can be done in just single crochet. All you really need for that is the make your chain for whatever you want as long as you want it and then just single crochet across. Make sure to count your stitches every row to prevent shrinkage

    Do you ever help with more complex problems in projects? I am making a vintage crochet dress from a 1970-71 pattern. (It is not nearly as helpful as today's patterns, plus the sizing chart is way different!) That's my problem. I chose a size that should have matched my size, and even had the gauge worked out to size. But, my finished skirt portion is at least 5 inches larger than it should be! I am trying to figure out how to alter it without starting all over. I have searched the internet without success so far. I know without seeing what I am talking about it would be hard to help, but I thought perhaps you had some suggestions on where to go to find help. Thanks so much for your patterns and videos. I have made several of your patterns with success!

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 років тому

      i am sorry but from the sounds of it and for the fact that it is a garment you will most likely have to start the entire skirt over. there really isn't a way to alter crochet to fit after a piece or fabric has already been made.
