Great Vid ..Thinking of travelling to Sri Lanka in the near future. If you have a dual sim phone It is possible to turn the roaming off on your home country sim just before you leave the country and set the new country sim to wifi and calls. Better than losing your sim card :)

If you could recommend three towns to stay in from which I could do day trips and dedicate myself to writing where would you recommend? 1:20 did you have to transfer Sri Lankan rupees to your Wisecard, or can you transfer any currency to that card and go to an ATM in SL and get rupees out? Thank you.
That's a great question. We didn't open a Sri Lanka Wise account, instead we had funds in our GBP Wise accounts, and the ATM withdrawals came from that account instead.

Great videos😊. I’m going to Sri Lanka with my family for 10 nights and really excited. I’m staying at Occidental Eden resort in Beruwala. One thing I’m a little bit worried about is, will it rain too much and what will the weather be like at the end of September to early October?. Is it safe to swim in the beaches?
We hope you have a wonderful time there. The weather was mixed for us on the coast there in July and August. I think September and October will be better for you. 🙏 It's always best to ask the local people about the conditions of the water before swimming. They will know the best places and where to avoid. I’ve been to Thailand, Malaysia and Mexico around September to October before and the same thing crossed my mind when I looked at the weather forecast beforehand. It said it would rain everyday but when I got there it was beautiful sunny weather, only few days of rain for a short period then it was all dry again, so I think Sri Lanka will be like this too.

Please can you answer 2 questions... realistically could I get by on 900 gbp a month whereever, I ask as everything has shot up plus cannot hike uphill as asthmatic.. also do you use any specific mosquito repellant apart from one from Sri that was super efficient and cant remember name cannot dind 1 natural or deet or citronella etc that works. Thank you for your really honest videos that say how it really is. ❤❤❤😊😊😊 Ps havent got my head round transport costs that s where money goes on transfers. As solo even in Sri and Thaland tuk tuks were asking as nuch as taxis like 10gbp for 5 minutes.. Love the way you got straight into buses trains etc cheap rooms and authentic food... lovely to see...

Hello Mandy and Lee, The Roman Catholic influence seen by you in Negombo, Sri Lanka is incorrectly mentioned in your video as influence from the Dutch. Roman Catholic religion spread in Sri Lanka not because of the Dutch, but it was because of the Portuguese. During the time Sri Lanka was a Portuguese colony (before it became a Dutch Colney) Roman Catholic Churches came up in Sri Lanka, while Sri Lanka became a Dutch Colney, the Dutch tried with little success to supplant Roman Catholicism with Protestantism while the majority of Sri Lankan Christians remained Roman Catholic. During the time Sri Lanka was a Dutch Colney, Catholics in Sri Lanka were persecuted for practicing Roman Catholicism. It was nice to see that you both had tried PickMe which is a service like Uber, while PickMe is a Sri Lankan company unlike Uber, and is more popular in Sri Lanka than Uber among the Sri Lankan Citizens.

You might have already heard that Negombo is called/identified as "Little Rome" owing to the many Portuguese-era Roman Catholic churches that are there and the large Catholic community that live in Negombo, Sri Lanka. As you see my last name that is Fonseka, it is one of the Sri Lankan surnames in Sri Lanka that are among many last names that have it's origin of Portuguese names like De Silva, Perera, Pereira, Pinto, Silva, Fernando, Boteju, Fernandez etc. Many who have these Portuguese origin last names like me are Roman Catholic and as a result of the Ancestors becoming Roman Catholic they took these Portuguese origin last names as well during the time Sri Lanka was a Portuguese colony. Hope you will be able to visit Sri Lanka once again and also visit with a few other friends and family together as well. Best wishes with your travels around the world.

I was wondering about your late night TukTuk ride from the airport. I’ve heard from some is a dangerous move in Sri Lanka. Can you please comment on that experience for you and what you’ve heard regarding safety at night there?
Hi. Our experience was a very positive one. The driver was polite and friendly and made sure we arrived at our destination safely. We were using the pickme app so there is an element of accountability with the driver. We thoroughly recommend using it. 👍

We arranged online visas in advance, and were fortunate that they were offering 3-month visas at the time for the same price. I think it's back to 30 days now for US $30.

1:20 did you have to transfer Sri Lankan rupees to your Wisecard, or can you transfer any currency to that card and go to an ATM in SL and get rupees out? Thank you.
That's a great question. We didn't open a Sri Lanka Wise account, instead we had funds in our GBP Wise accounts, and the ATM withdrawals came from that account instead.

Great videos😊. I’m going to Sri Lanka with my family for 10 nights and really excited. I’m staying at Occidental Eden resort in Beruwala. One thing I’m a little bit worried about is, will it rain too much and what will the weather be like at the end of September to early October?. Is it safe to swim in the beaches?
We hope you have a wonderful time there. The weather was mixed for us on the coast there in July and August. I think September and October will be better for you. 🙏 It's always best to ask the local people about the conditions of the water before swimming. They will know the best places and where to avoid.

@@FrugalTravellers Thanks😊. I really hope the weather will be nice, I don’t mind a bit of rain and I love swimming in the warm sea water. I’ve been to Thailand, Malaysia and Mexico around September to October before and the same thing crossed my mind when I looked at the weather forecast beforehand. It said it would rain everyday but when I got there it was beautiful sunny weather, only few days of rain for a short period then it was all dry again, so I think Sri Lanka will be like this too.

Please can you answer 2 questions... realistically could I get by on 900 gbp a month whereever, I ask as everything has shot up plus cannot hike uphill as asthmatic.. also do you use any specific mosquito repellant apart from one from Sri that was super efficient and cant remember name cannot dind 1 natural or deet or citronella etc that works. As solo even in Sri and Thaland tuk tuks were asking as nuch as taxis like 10gbp for 5 minutes.. Love the way you got straight into buses trains etc cheap rooms and authentic food... lovely to see...

Hello Mandy and Lee, The Roman Catholic influence seen by you in Negombo, Sri Lanka is incorrectly mentioned in your video as influence from the Dutch. Roman Catholic religion spread in Sri Lanka not because of the Dutch, but it was because of the Portuguese. During the time Sri Lanka was a Portuguese colony (before it became a Dutch Colney) Roman Catholic Churches came up in Sri Lanka, while Sri Lanka became a Dutch Colney, the Dutch tried with little success to supplant Roman Catholicism with Protestantism while the majority of Sri Lankan Christians remained Roman Catholic. During the time Sri Lanka was a Dutch Colney, Catholics in Sri Lanka were persecuted for practicing Roman Catholicism. It was nice to see that you both had tried PickMe which is a service like Uber, while PickMe is a Sri Lankan company unlike Uber, and is more popular in Sri Lanka than Uber among the Sri Lankan Citizens.

You might have already heard that Negombo is called/identified as "Little Rome" owing to the many Portuguese-era Roman Catholic churches that are there and the large Catholic community that live in Negombo, Sri Lanka. As you see my last name that is Fonseka, it is one of the Sri Lankan surnames in Sri Lanka that are among many last names that have it's origin of Portuguese names like De Silva, Perera, Pereira, Pinto, Silva, Fernando, Boteju, Fernandez etc. Many who have these Portuguese origin last names like me are Roman Catholic and as a result of the Ancestors becoming Roman Catholic they took these Portuguese origin last names as well during the time Sri Lanka was a Portuguese colony. Hope you will be able to visit Sri Lanka once again and also visit with a few other friends and family together as well. Best wishes with your travels around the world.

Hi. Our experience was a very positive one. The driver was polite and friendly and made sure we arrived at our destination safely. We were using the pickme app so there is an element of accountability with the driver. We thoroughly recommend using it. 👍
