I am glad you enjoyed this film, James. I am always a fan of movies that have some teeth. You don't see that often, but I am glad we are seeing some this year. I hope you have a great weekend.
I'm glad you spoke about horror movies not being true horror movies. Eden Lake and Speak No Evil are two very different movies I suspect because of the current film industry climate. People criticise the director of The Mist because they're impressed by what I call Stranger Things horror. I love depressing horror like Martyrs and Terrifier. Drag Me To Hell too, which is a horror comedy.
Massive fan of both 'Martyrs' as well as 'Drag Me to Hell'. Wild movies for diehard horror fans. For my money, shows like 'Stranger Things' are for fans of young adult fiction. I'm way too old and cynical for that crap.
I'm a huge fan of Eden Lake and Speak No Evil (original) and I was really saddened that the remake of SNE pulled a The Descent on us, especially since it was directed by the guy who made Eden Lake. I don't mind Stranger Things (at least Season 1) and can enjoy those films and shows, but I don't really find them all that scary. I still need to watch Martyrs even though I spent a lot of time watching and reading about it. Interestingly Drag Me To Hell did nothing for me, even when I watched it when I was more inexperienced with horror. Not sure why. Always felt kinda silly to me.
Talking about horror, are you watching the Uzumaki anime? If so, are we getting a series review soon? Noticed the manga in your collection. Thanks for your Terrifier review.
I'd be interested to hear what he thinks, but OOF, its looking to be a rough adaptation. That drop-off in quality in episode 2 is one for the record books.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I met the actor who played Art he's created his own character but he took it pieces of each character. That is more taking inspiration Art is a one of kind. So I do agree that he is original.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock That is why mainstream horror movies are failing and independent horror movies are becoming mainstream instead of the horror movies that are supposed to be mainstream.
I'm happy to hear you had a fun audience. I was getting worried because I've seen a few reviews saying the audience was like a church mouse. I changed the movie time I was planning on going today for the crowd reason alone. I wanted to go right after work 4 o'clock showing but there were only 4 other seats taken. Switched to 7 o'clock hoping for a communal experience.
This the most I been excited for a horror movie since Final Destination 2. Can't wait for streaming / DVD. To make the most awful villain and also the funniest is a feat to say the least. I hope he puts on more glasses than just the one in the ads. 😆
Great review. I am with you in that its just a joy to watch this franchise blossom like this. One of my lowkey favorite parts was in that bar scene you knew shit was going to go down but Art just whips out a gun and kills two of them and gets it out of the way 😂. I loved that in the first movie and it delivers big time here haha.
I was pretty blown away by the practical effects in The Substance. I haven't seen anything like that since Cronenberg was at his peak. What other films have you seen that I should check out in that genre?
This is going to be one of those rare years where we can put together a pretty good top 10 list just within the horror genre. Can't remember the last time that happened.
IMO the counties bannded the movie is wrong is just a movie we all should have a choice to watch it . I love terrifier 1 and 2 I can't wait till it comes out on HBO Max November 25 . if they show it before on screambox i see it there . I enjoy watching movies at home more affordable I can buy my own Sodas Candies & popcorn I'll probably watch the movie first since it's so gory
I saw the double feature it was wonderful. Lots of lore added in this film! Like the reference to the ninth circle at the end and the statue scene. I think this confirms art is the same guy from even the first short film.
I gotta give this film props It really really goes for broke with splatter gore My Wife couldn't watch😂 The Spouts of Blood Harkens back to the Classic Samurai Revenge o Matic Shogun Assassin
I laughed my ass off at the movie, when he sniffed the sawed-off foot. I also noticed how Leone is getting better and better at phasing. He really doesn't waste any time on unnecessary things and the way he managed to make such an exciting film in such a short time is amazing. But I have to say that in terms of gore, that is of course not the final level. It's something like Laid to Rest 2, for example, which I also liked because the violence ensured that the tension was increased. Apart from that, "Headless" was my personal final boss in this genre.
I dug it. It really reminded me of watching horror flicks on VHS tapes back in the 80s, but they really need to get to the heart of the mythology with the next one and stop with the teases. I'm not going to watch Terrifier 5. Wrap it up with the next one and pump out something new.
Not trying to spoil so ill be vague here. The seen in the mall with the toys made my jaw drop to the floor. I started looking at my surroundings in the theater looking at everybody around me just to make sure we all saw what just happened. Holy shit was everyone else going nuts.
What benefits are "making a movie on a larger scale"? When they are already great? Risk losing the independent feel? The first part of the movie is overhyped. All the gore is corny. It's great don't get me wrong but it's not trying to be real. It's a cheeseball bloodfest.
I love how even though you don't usually complain about this, pushing "The Message" into everything has just gotten annoying as hell. The movie going audience is STARVING for more female nudity. It's simply part of the genre. It'll be great once we get past this weird puritan phase. 😣
Luckily The Substance understood the assignment on that front and gave us some nice stimulation on that front. Cronenberg's new movie 'The Shrouds' also has some interesting scenes. Caught it at the New York Film Festival.
It's true, the Terrifier franchise is definitely sick and wrong, but at least it's honest and unapologetic about it. So much of what passes for "socially conscious" is actually at its core sick and morally debased (like the gender cult for instance). This movie trusts the audience to not take this exercise in campy evil and not take it as an endorsement of said evil.
Honestly how I felt about The Substance, it insisted upon itself yet had about as much depth as a puddle. Terrifier isn’t trying to convince you it’s anything other than what it is.
I don't understand how it's sick and wrong. It's fiction. It isn't real. Art is no different from Ghostface, Leatherface, Freddy, Jason, Pennywise, Chucky, Norman Bates, I could go on and on. It's all make believe.

Right back at you! 2024 is turning into a pretty good year for the horror genre. Hopefully this movie connects with the audience it deserves.
These movies are a hoot. I already know I'll like this one. And the next one.
Early reports suggest the box office is going to be fantastic for such a modest production. Rooting hard for Leone to get to make another.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I believe he's announced no.4 already. Not sure how many there'll be, but he says it has an ending.

I'm rooting hard for this movie. Early tracking is pointing to opening around $11 million which is amazing news for Leone.

INDEPENDENT 🎥 MEANS FREEDOM💀✌💰 & YOU NOTICE A STUDIO HASN'T HIRED HIM YET!
NOT YET💪 & IF HE DOES GET HIRED BY A STUDIO HE HAS TO HAVE FULL CONTROL!!
Fingers crossed he'll get some offers where he can maintain creative control. I like his work to be undiluted, uncompromised and 100% uncensored.

I'm going to rewatch the first as well since it directly ties into one of the main characters in this latest.
The Problem I have with Terrifier one and two is that they’re both way too long!
I hate to admit it but this new one feels a little long as well, but the highlights of the movie are wildly entertaining.

Lol, I'd like to see a Terrifier in Hell, or at least a sequence where we see him interacting with the souls of the damned.

I totally get it. Their appeal is niche but they remind me of my early days prowling the racks of the horror section of my local video store.
@geekinwithJamesHancock loved browsing the video store especially the horror section back in the 80s and 90s. Top level art on display, lol.
