Do you know what happened to Bandita? 💜🙏🌹🙏💜 I really enjoy your videos very much. I'm always disappointed (like a little girl's "awww" when the short clips end! 😁 Thank you for all that you share! 💜🙏🌹🙏💜
I love this type of video! A non-invasive, harmless documentation of nature’s greatest “tricks”, blessings, and miracles! I’m SO GLAD that I stumbled upon your channel!! Please, keep up the great work!
So wonderful to see the full transformation! Bandita was such a special stoat and is missed. It will be exciting to watch for these new ermine stoats 😍
What a stunning little animal. I hope to see a stoat one day to add to my sightings of mustalids - badger, mink, and pine marten - the latter my all time favourite. Excellent quality footage here Robert, thank you.
Thank you for another amazing video! It is so nice to watch Bandita again , she is so pretty. Nice that her offsprings are still around ! Fingers crossed we will see another stoat turn white again!
You give us a chance to see nature in a way most of us will never see otherwise. I am in the US and have seen fishers and minks and river otters in the wild, but never in the winter. Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos. I appreciate all you to educate us.
I just LOVE Bandita!! I have been watching her for about 4 1/2 yrs. It's so sad she no longer is around. I'm happy to see the chestnut color comes back quickly on her back for camouflage!! Thank you SO much Robert for sharing her life. Is 5 yrs an average life span? 🤔 Very grateful for all you do!!❤💕👏👏👍
Another fabulous video! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you Robert! The photography is stunning as always and to see the process in both directions is wonderful. Love Bandita and 🤞 her offspring will delight us too. 🙏💚
Dearest Robert, my days fill with joy every time I watch your videos. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful insight of animal life. Many blessings from Mexico.

I cannot tell a lie, but the first time I ever found out about these creatures and their change and fur color during seasons, was through the wild Thornberrys. Not gonna lie, but as much as it was fun, action family cartoon on Nickelodeon. It did have some educational moments. The episode where Eliza Thornberry is trying to help a hare seek shelter from a stoat.
I never knew that. Our world is so interesting and diverse . Thank you for taking us into a glimpse of how some of our fellow inhabitants live. Your photography is amazing as are your videos. Sorry about Bandita. I know she wasn’t a pet but am sure she is missed. I had the joy of owning a close relative of the stoat,a domestic ferret. What joy she brought into my life with her antics. Very smart and loving little creature unfortunately they have a very high metabolism and thus a short lifespan, usually 6-7 years. Thank you for taking us into the world of the creatures that live around you.
These guys are gorgeous! Robert, you captured the progress of the color change beautifully! Thank you for sharing! 👍☺️💕 The SCC (seasonal coat color) molt is adaptive in temperate and polar regions where it snows. However, scientists are concerned that climate change will find these animals exhibiting color changes even when warming shortens the snowy season. The coat color changes are also heavily influenced by hormones responding to the photoperiod (changes in the seasonal ratios between daylight and darkness that remains constant every year). So, we'll be witnessing the change to a white coloration even when it fails to snow and this might work to make these guys more prone to predation and decrease their survivability when their white coats contrast starkly with a brownish background. This is another reason to think about how climate changes affect the planet. 🤷♀️
@@susanaquezada7671 Photoperiod will stay the same, but warmer conditions in the winter will bring less snow and the stoats will turn white while the ground stays dark. So the white stoat won't be able to camouflage itself.
@@susanaquezada7671 I have shared a little evidence to disprove the above claims about climate change. We should be always caring for the environment and putting it first. However his/her claims about warming in Europe and the UK, shortening winters, is just not true. Purely made up. The opposite is actually true. Colder winters and unexpected cold snaps in unusual times.
I just found your channel and I absolutely adore your passion and dedication for these beautiful animals and your lovely art. Thank you for sharing these moments!
Just awesome thank you so much! It’s so hard to get anything about Ferrets orders or stoats! Over a period of around 24 years I had many of my own precious Ferrets I Miss them Sooo Much every day of my life ❣️ this brought tears to my eyes and love in my heart thank you again ❣️🙏🏼🕊🕊🕊🇦🇺
I used to erroneously believe minks also went ermine in the winter due to both being associated with elegant white coats, and incorporated this into a character in one of my comics who was supposed to be an American Mink. Interestingly the color change happens in a lot of other mustelid species, but not as starkly; some martens (Japanese martens in particular, I believe) have _only_ their faces turn white, some change from one shade of brown or gray to a slightly lighter shade but not fully white, and so forth. Changing between a thick winter coat and a thinner summer coat is of course quite common for mammals in general, as any owner of a mid to large sized dog should be aware; those bred in colder climates especially.
awww my baby is named Bandit because of his mask also, he a cutie chunky ferret baby!💙 Adorable Bandita!!😍we miss you!! but awesome to see those youngins!!!
My favorite Mustelid species is the Fisher Cat. Beautiful North American species, and huge and vicious too!! They are able to take down large house cats and even foxes! They are amazing. They don't turn white in the winter, but man that would be so cool if they did.
Stunning and interesting film. Thank you. Recently an ermine stoat has been seen in the village I live in, in Germany and there has been much debate on Facebook about why she/he is white.
I would also add it seems like perfect camouflage for the animal. The coat is roughly a similar percentage white as is the surrounding environment. As said many times, triggered by temperature, which is a great way to make sure the coat is always the right mix of brown and white to stay well camoflagued. A good example of biology, through survival of the fittest (the most easily able to camouflage themselves survive the predators). Well that is my opinion on it all.
She's so beautiful. We just found a snow white short tailed ermine in our house last week! She was mouse hunting and so we let her be. We live in a very large older home and we get mice. It's Alaska. Unfortunately with the beauty, you get the mice. She's definitely been the one keeping their numbers low and we appreciate her for that lol. She hunts the mice and takes them to her den in the back yard. She's do beautiful too. It takes everything in me not to want to make her a pet 😆😆 Of course she won't do her job as well if I did
My live cams have been streaming for a couple of years now and we have got to know and love some familiar characters. I also film and put together videos such as this one on the stoat turning ermine.
What happened to her? Just old do you think? This was lovely to watch! I'll be keeping my eyes open for stoats this year. Hoping to get a decent camera and start documenting the wildlife and fungi where I am! Currently mostly on Ilkley Moore but looking forward to investigating other places.
Thanks, I put food in the wall for her and she would hold a similar position each time she comes and do what’s known as a cross fade between footage that’s taken at different times
I hope you've enjoyed the video!

But photoperiod is going to be the same, so should not to influence the color changes.

Wonderful little creatures with a trick up their sleeve. Are stoats very active during the day or do they tend to be rather nocturnal animals?
