    I totally agree with you, this is the most innovated product to carry your Leatherman, don't know why Leatherman has not picked it up yet! It's probably the patent issue. I even received a free sheath for the OHT model with my order! Thank you R.A.E. Gear! I ordered the Trayvax belt too. No nonsense gear fur sure.

      Gotta patent your idea to get paid for it. And if someone else takes your idea and patents it first, sorry, you're out of luck. And just because you have a patent in the USA, doesn't stop a factory in China from making, and selling it.

      He had made one for his original Wave, and uses it in the first season of Mythbusters, in 2003. What a shame he did not sell the design to Leatherman, or patent the design and sell them himself.

    New leatherman owner who bought a surge for his first EDC leatherman. The current holder leatherman offers just isnt that great for my needs, my leather belt just doesnt fit through the loop or provide good purchase when removing the leatherman, maybe with extended use it might get better but honestly I want something much easier that provides more freedom. You've provided me a wonderful Avenue to explore that I will absolutely be checking out in the coming weeks. Thank you sir

    I'm glad you found something you like but being in maintenance in a factory. I carry both bit kits the bit extender and a mini flashlight with my multitool case. Which works for me. If I didn't carry extra stuff that would work for me. Also the buck 110 leather sheath will fit both the rebar and leatherman wave too just a FYI

    It's basically a metal version of the 20 or so year old juice xe6 pouch, It was leatherman's own and made in plastic.

    I actually like the original sheath that comes with the leatherman. I work maintenance in manufacturing and carry it on me all day, everyday for work and home that way if I'm somewhere away from tools I may be able to fix something simple right then rather than going back for my tool box.
    This guy probably uses his leatherman once in a blue moon which is fine but this isn't for me. Only reason I'm searching for a new shealth is the original is only for the leatherman and I wouldn't mind carrying a few other tools.
    The Gerber custom fit dual sheath is what I'm considering now. It can hold my Leatherman Wave, Leatherman Crunch or flashlight and Leatherman bit set. Hopefully this will save me some extra steps in the future.

    I can’t quite figure out how it’s any different than the belt clip? The best sheath’s are by Skinth. Stupid name but brilliantly designed and high quality. Best of all they actually do something like hold a ton of items or a few in a very small space. This metal sheath is more of a gimmick I’d say. You can slide your leatherman on & off your pocket faster with just the belt clip if you don’t want to carry anything else. What’s the point of putting it in this sheath?

    While I in no way agree with your opinion of the leatherman sheaths or your characterization of those who use them, I agree that those metal holders look good, neat, trim, and effective. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I'm hoping there is a bit holder that will accommodate the full bit kit set, not just half of it.

  • @wildbill23c
    @wildbill23c 6 років тому

    Yep, I've had mine for probably 2 years now, they work great, I prefer it over those junk nylon sheaths, I loved the leather ones but they cheaped out and started using those stupid nylon ones, I just throw them away. I think they have a few different versions of that RAE sheath now for a few other Leatherman models...I have one for my MUT as well. Its great, one handed deployment and storage, no issues with the velcro failing or the snap not snapping and resulting in losing a not so cheap tool. Haven't had any issues with retention on these RAE sheathes.
    I have several Leatherman tools and the bit kits I toss in a drawer because there's no way to really carry them easily most of the time, I need to get the new Wave with the bit kit mod HAHA!
    I never understood why they made those nylon sheathes so large and the dang tools flop around in those cases, the old leather cases were more compact and fit the tools better.

    Great video and thanks for the info on the metal holder.
    The leatherman does nothing for me as daily carrier of a Swiss Sprit which is stainless and it’s polished, looks nice, feels good in hand.
    My experience with the Swiss army tool is that it doesn’t rust, and is super strong for what it is, plus there are two flat heads and one proper Philips head.
    Also I wear my tool back of belt above pockets, hows the metal holder going to feel against the skin/bone. I like the leather pouch if my multi tool is out of the pouch it has some give to it, don’t hurt my back or dig in.
    I enjoy the polish finish as if I drop it at night/ dark, I will most likely find it, my multi tool tasks don’t require stealth like actions.
    Last thing, should I get stuck on a island, pretty sure the bright finish may work as a signaling mirror.

    Ah, my one grip is that I won't be able to carry my extra bit kit with this sheath. The MOLLE sheath has a pocket in the back that I can fit both pieces in. That's kind of a deal breaker for me. I use the pliers the most and bit driver is a close second, and I exchange bits fairly often, I need to have them all with me
    Edit: I'm a fool! I didn't watch until the end, clear as day, he shows a sheath with an extra section exactly for the bits!

      Ivan B I Agree about the pocket clip. It’s still how I carry most days. If I go on a ride......I’m gonna have LOTS coming out of my pockets. LOL. The retention is really good and somewhat adjustable. If you keep it on your belt for work or something (more applicable with a larger Multi-Tool like the Surge or Super Tool) this is great. No constant velcro or snap. There’s gonna be trade offs on a few different levels. Thanks. 👍🏼

    Thanks for the great review!...I'm glad Leatherman discontinued those flimsy Velcro nylon sheath and upgraded to the new and improved (Molle type) nylon sheath with reinforced stitching and metal rivet snap. But anyhow, when it comes to the R.A.E. metal sheath, in my opinion they are the best, no doubt about that, but he only complain from some of the guys at the multi-tool forum, specially those who like to have a EDC "working tool" in perfect cosmetic condition, is that the two rivets sticking out the back on the inside of the metal sheath (one without the bit holder) scratches their multi-tools making the scratches more visible on the black oxide finish.

    • @EverymanGear
      @EverymanGear  6 років тому

      Goliath Mylan Thanks for the comment. I certainly understand what you're saying and I can see where that might be a little bit of a concern. I guess it kind of comes down to the same type of debate they have with firearms. You can have the "safe queens" that you only get out when you go to the range OR you can treat them like the tool that they are and use them and practice with them and get the most out of them. The Leatherman debate is the same thing. I have had my black oxide Leatherman for only a couple of weeks and I already see signs of wear. I have used the RAE gear sheath some days, and I have also pocket carried. I guess if you "collect" then the RAE gear sheath may not be for you. On the other hand, if you use it every day, it is a much better option, in my opinion, than the sheaths offered by Leatherman. The fact is, until there are as many sheath options as there are holster options I think RAE makes the best I have found.

    I like the design. it's just a shame that I'm a freak who doesn't like showing what I have on me. I removed the branding on the sheath and added on a quick release buckle.
    p.s. it's becouse I live in sweden where everyone gets offended by tools.

    Sweet! Finally someone made a production. Even better with the bit holder on the side. I mean Adam Savage from myth busters made that kind of sheath/holster 3yrs ago. Here’s the vid showing him making it. ua-cam.com/video/Et-JvYrQ84o/v-deo.html

    don't you dare lean against my vehicle.....looks to me since I first saw these to do possible damage to things if come in contact, scratch, wear, tear, scuff. No one mentions any of that. I have a plastic/accordion style one, that was $5.00 does same thing, and a FRN style, that won't damage or hang stuff.

    • @EverymanGear
      @EverymanGear  5 років тому

      Capt Dave's Sport Fishing Very valid point. I think this sheath works best for WORK. If you work as maintenance ON SITE and need fairly constant access to your multi tool then this is a great option. For personal use it does present some difficulties. Stay away from leather furniture (or your car upholstery too). Thanks for your input. 👍🏼

    • @EverymanGear

  • @MrLeicesterian

    Nice piece of kit, one question i have is that it sounds like it’s a very close fit. Do you have any wear on the Leatherman itself, scratches on the carbon coating for example?

    • @EverymanGear
      @EverymanGear  6 років тому

      Richard Woolmer Yes. It’s going to wear for sure. You just have to decide if it’s worth it. It’s a tough decision. It’s like treating a handgun like a “tool” and embracing all of the wear and tear that starts showing after you use and abuse it. I can completely understand if you’re not wanting to do that. To be honest… For my Wave+,I still mostly pocket carry with the pocket clip. I almost always have a pistol on my belt and a spare mag and have limited real estate.

      Cool look. Strong. But hard on the body and the tool. Not a sheath you want to scrape against. Probably not as much a problem if used while attached to your bag but not your body (waistband).

    • @EverymanGear
      @EverymanGear  6 років тому

      Gorio Echo KYDEX versions are available for multi-tools. I find they are a little more bulky but they can be found. A lot of the companies making holsters and mag holders will custom make one for you.

    Suffering in the Arizona heat??? Stop it...have you ever been on the east coast? From Maryland to Florida. Unless you live around Baker, California or Yuma, Arizona in the death valley area, you aren't suffering. I spent 3 years at Fort Huachuca and loved every second of the weather there. Since I'm from Maryland where the humidity is up around 50-90% a lot of the time, it absolutely sucks here when it's in the high 80's and up. At times you can't even be outside it's so miserable. A 90 degree day, in January, in Sierra Vista trumps a 90 degree day anytime in Maryland anytime. Sorry to get off subject and bust your chops, but when you said what you did about the heat, I just about lost it. If I had just one family member that would go out there with me, I'd leave here in a heartbeat...GONE! The only place I ever felt hot is in that death valley area, aptly named so for that day I spent driving a duece-and-half or 5 ton in 126 degree(actual) heat that day. That was hot. So if you're living in some other area than that, it's not really hot. Sorry for bustin' your ass on that. Great weather and great state, except for that sheriff Joe S.O.B. I hear about. Yep, even in Maryland we hear he's an ass****....back to your vlog now. Take care.

      1MADMAX 1124 Well....hot is hot...BUT yes, I agree that humid hot is wayyy worse! There were tons of really cool duty stations available in Florida when I graduated from USCG Boot Camp. I skipped those immediately because I remember how horrible a summer trip to Disney World/Epcot was as a teen. It was almost torture. 😱🤣
