Just ordered a quansheng. I'm 50 now, I've not had any radio CB or UHF since I was about 10 11 12 years old, I remember using my step dads base station for his taxi business. Looking forward to to getting back into it all, glad there are still enthusiasts keeping the hobby alive.
I’ve left my Baofeng UV-5RH firmware as is and added 600 channels from SignalStick. Works like a charm. I’m very happy leaving it as is. Did test my output on high was over 8 watts.
Man, for giggles, I should snap you picture of my old walkie talkies, I had as a kid. You'd get a laugh Fred! They are around here someplace! Our friends in England!!
Cheers FRED thanks for the update, and normal I find it's when you use it on AM for the aircraft the speaker is not up to much at all, thanks again. Alan 💯👍
The plug is called a Europlug type C - CEE 7/16 , it's the most used plug in the world. This type of plug is fitted to all appliances that do not need to be earthed with a maximum of 2.5 Amp.
Just to add you only live up the road from me and I do enjoy your videos. One day might meet up and talk radios etc over a coffee. Keep up the work it’s great
Heya Fred, good video. I got mine about the same time you did and fiddled around with it a bunch as well. I only ever pick up one airband at my house so it's the only one I have programmed in, 119.100 and with a proper airband antenna it works for me just about as well as any of my other airband capable radios, and it's fantastic on the gmrs frequencies. I like the little radio quite a bit, I think this was officially my 40th new model of HT, lol. I got it to work with the baofeng k6 cps software, and read somewhere one of the compatibles will be up on chirp shortly. Being a long time chirper, I can't stand less functional cps programs haha. I like quite a few things about this model, hoping to get a little more support soon and make it easier to program. I've seen a few new things coming from baofeng recently like upgradable firmware and implementing some of the menu items from folks like Miklor. Bunch of new cheap digital stuff coming as well. Keep up the good work!
it is a bit of a bind which one to buy, BAOFENG or Quansheng but after watching and listening to your comments im giving a miss on both or what do you think. thanks Fred.
very interesting video nice looking radio petty the SQL so far down the menu like your good self-think they should put the vol & SQ Level at one and two it would be better or do away with flashlight put SQL there or something. 73s Fred
Fred, can I ask your opinion on the k40 mobile mag mount antenna, I was wondering if there is a better antenna to upgrade to that you know of , kind regards Paul
Hi. Never had a K40 myself but they were rated back in the day. I am not sure the new version is the same quality. I rate the larger Sirio antennas like the 4000 Megawatt and the 5000. I received people well on those.
Great review as usual. It seems more of the Baofengs are not flashable. Just with the "flyover", ins't it more like a "flyunder" and you are on the the "walkover" ? Forgive me but English was my second language Fred!😉
I can't get mine to scan thru my saved channels. Pressing and holding that button just activates the frequency scanning for nearby frequencies. Also, even using the Baofeng software , I can't get it to save airband frequencies to the radio. I'll probably end up selling this and sticking with my AR5RM and UV5RH
No there isn't, there are other versions and brands, However if you buy a Quansheng you'll be fine. If you buy a Baofeng like Fred has, you've just got a Baofeng.
Fred does the aircraft band on this device work as well without the upgrade? I heard the firmware update on the quansheng improved the aircraft frequencies .. Thanks Lee
Hi. Yes the Quan upgrade did help the audio. Trouble with these radios on air band is they scan way to slow so unless you know the exact freq to listen on you really wont get anything. Because of that i dont bother with it.
Fred, it's not a Quansheng, It's a Baofeng. It is not Quansheng fimware upgradable. Also nobody loads egzumer any more it hasn't been updated since January. F4HWN is a fork of egzumer and a vast improvement on it. It's also regularly updated and current version is 3.6. To be clear The radio in your video is NOT a backward step on A QUANSHENG. It's just another run of the mill BAOFENG.
@@CB-RADIO-UK The fact that they look alike is a bit of con trick on the public. The chips sets are different and hence the firmware that works on one is likely to require significant modifications to work on the other. I wouldn't bank on a Boafeng being firmware modifiable for a couple of years yet.

Great video! I wish baofeng would enable there radios to be flashed with cfw! 930
That would be cool!
Frid in the shed your UA-cam videos are awesome my friend
i believe that radio is 5 watts in high power mode. i communicate 5-6 miles here in manhattan. greater when in my office on the 22nd floor.
You could try the F4HWN firmware. I think it's great and is frequently updated.
Yes others have mentioned it. I will check it out. Thanks

The best one Ive had this year is the Tidradio H3

@@CB-RADIO-UK The Wilson 5000 is great gr 19DCG123
I would like the ctcss search and the 999 channels
They now have the uv k68
Good to hear the news on it that Harrods are now having their islamic staff selection.
My first wife worked there when this was going on. Staff knew about it but afraid of losing thier jobs.
Frid in the shed I learn lot from you about bying cb radios and antennas for cb radios and power supplys for cb radios my friend

Hi. Yes walkover would be about right.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Flyover sounds better. I was kinda being jokey about it. It's neither here nor there!

is there anything better than a k5(8) at that price point?
Not really but I am still looking.
The Retevis RA79 is the exact same as the Quansheng UV-K5. However, the RA79 is priced at only $17.99 on Amazon. 930

Interesting radio how much are they fred
They are under £20 bud + a bit more off with my discount code.

Quansheng sounds better to me. Slightly bassier
I think there prob about the same in real life. The UV-k61 goes slightly louder.
Played on that rugby field countless times. Look for my right rear molar, it’s there somewhere. Lol
LOL i will :-)
can HAM radio also recieve sw channels?
Yes a proper HF Ham radio can. See here. ua-cam.com/video/fdPPb9faIGM/v-deo.html

cant mod that
Why would you expect egzumer to work on a baofeng in the first place?
Mostly as the radio looks just like a Quansheng.

Yes it seems that way :-(

Not a Baofeng, but I have the retevis rb22 and still figuring it out lol
