- I’ve been daily driving a hideous Honda Civic SI that had been previously plastidipped and it was hard to look at. So for about $45 in spray paint, a lot of sanding, and some tape, I made the car look 10x better!

You’re better with a spray can than I’d be with a pro setup! I like the result
Haha thanks man
Good looking paint job.
Wait in the beginning of the video you were sanding the car but at the end of sanding you hit it with water and it turned blue again so what did you sand off
@@wnynj1213 the clear coat
Looks good! Have done this a couple times now. You can in fact wetsand and buff rustoleum and it looks GREAT. But you have to wait like 3-4 weeks for it to FULLY harden up before you do.
Buffing and polishing your headlights and tail lights makes a big difference on how the car looks too.
Awesome!! Good to know!
"Shut your mouth, let me explain."Love it! Car doesn't look half bad either! It's right up there with a James D Guy (Moore Motorsports)spray job.Good work! I think I'm going to spray bomb my car one panel at a time;sounds like good advice.
Moore motorsports is awsome love that channel..
Brings back the good ol days when I was kid doing the same thing lol. Looks good man. Keep up the good work and can’t wait for some mr2 bug content 👍🏻
Thank you!
Great vid, and great advice... I'm a complete rookie and this summer I'm going to try to repaint my (deceased) father's 1988 F250. It has no real value, but it has sentimental value to my mom and me so I want to get it looking reasonably good so I'm going to go all in (paint, clear, ceramic coating), but on a spray-can budget. After watching a bunch of these vids I've been thinking it's better to do one or two opposite side panels at a time (it's two colors so first one color, then the other), and your experience confirms that line of thinking. Thank you for this info.
It looks really good considering you done that through a can the results are really amazing
Thanks!!
Turned out pretty well for what it's been through. I've owned a car where the previous owner sprayed regular paint over the car paint resulting in a chemical reaction and lots of orange peel as well as mud cracks. All those hours of sanding couldn't fix it.
Mannnnn i never seen any body pull off a good spray can paint job before. This is amazing! Honestly i think you preparation for this really place a huge factor here. Great job!
I appreciate that!
You gave great tips at the end of your video about the overspray. I recently sprayed my whole car with cans and I noticed some parts were grainy and others were smooth. It took me over 20 hours to prep for painting so it’s a bit upsetting when the result aren’t what you worked for. I did one whole side one day and the other half the next but did not cover the roof. Now it’s feels like 220 sand paper. I will respray my car soon and do panel by panel as you suggested. Thank you!
Nice man! Let me know how it turns out!
Turned out pretty damn good, all the prep time and taping up really helped out. Thanks for the video. I will be needing to send some 4wheeler plastics and tank to get Dipped real soon.( If that's okay)🤙🤟👍
Right on!! Thanks!!
Do you need to clear coat it after? And what should be done with the plastic and rubber trim sections? Mine are faded different shades of black and gray.
You can also use the same paint but in a one stage form with some paint thinner through a paint gun and air compressor if you have that at your disposal. Costs just under 30$ a gallon and the stuff holds up pretty well
Yea but costs way over $500 for the total set up
@@cajunfire6290 if you can find a cheap larger compressor more like 130-250 total with the spray gun and misc items
I don't know about 10x better I would say 100x better. Looks like a different car all together. You did a great job. Amazing that all that was accomplished with some spray paint and well a butt load of elbow grease. It does help that painting things is kind of in your wheel house. Lol
Thanks for another great video and showing off your skills and willingness to just go for it.
Haha thanks Bill!
@@GARAGEIdiotS no thank you for always giving me something to look forward to. I really appreciate it.
That says to me the paint in those cans has changed for the better in the last 20 years! We could never get good coverage with off the shelf spray paint. Sounds like you did a great job learning how to use this paint. Thanks for the laugh, good to see you goofing off! Hang in there.
Thanks man
looks good, not bad for a rattle can. Love the color, it almost reminds me of hammer-foot gray on the 2018 F150 pickups
Civic came out really good!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
It is way better than before. Nice job!
Next random youtube video suggestion:
"I did spray paint my whole Lamborghini"
How much does it take to paint civic si coupe? I have to paint my civic si. Paint is fading. How many step I should do by sanding like 80grid then 220 then 800 if you can give me example that would be great. I'm painting the car for the first time
cut it next month and wax it, next video for this project
Yes cut n wax the SI lets see what it becomes
I’m about to do my civic tomorroww I already sanded down I just got paint it ima use the same spray paint “smoke Grey “ but I’m doing part after part !!! Wish me luck 🥳
Looks amazing no clearcoat how many layers of paint how to register the color at dmv
U said paint WHOLE CAR! I wanted TO SEE BATTER DIPPED!
Glass-n-ALL !
Man that looks really good and if anybody is hating on you for using spray cans they just mad cuz they can't get they car look that good with spray cans.
Haha thanks!
Honda did not recall the finish of that car because of the clear coat. It was recalled because the blue paint interacted with the clear coat and caused it to peel prematurely. I have the same car and at the time it was recalled, Honda only painted a couple of parts of the cars that was peeling. The rest of the car peeled almost immediately afterwards to which Honda refused to pay to repaint the rest of the car. I will never buy another Honda as a result.
Awesome video man and killer paint job! You mentioned you were going to explain when not to use spray cans but I didn't see that part. I have a 2007 Honda Fit that is alabaster grey (cool name for shit silver color) and want to paint it black. Last time I bedlinered a Honda Passport with spray cans it all looked great except the hood which I could never get an even coat. So I'm not sure if I should take on the spray paint the Fit project. Any advice?
That looks slick
I did my 2005 Toyota Camry with factory paint, Pearl black.
I rolled out the primer then rolled out the black
It cost me less then $100
Looks good from 20 feet away, but looks much nicer then the original red
Looks like it tuned out good. How did it hold up with time?
Loved this. Honest about what you know and what you do and made me lol 3 times at least. Car turned out great!
Hahaha awesome! Thanks for watching!
Good result, I'm thinking of using the same color so good to see this.
Glad I could help!
about to acquire one of these with the dreaded clear coat issue. Getting the car for like 1400 dollars so i might just sent it so its at least all one color.
100 times better very nice job for rattle can! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!!
This doesn’t look bad at all. I like the end result
I freaking love this channel ....puts a big smile on my face
It looks damn good, bro❤.
are you not putting a clear coat on top?
can i leave it as the base color?
Would this work in winter time? I have a 2009 Honda Civic EX-L Coupe and the owner before me resprayed it and it made the paint bumpy and everything. I don’t have a garage so I wouldn’t have any ventilated place. What problems could I run into if I tried spraying my car in the winter time outside?
Scarface and a smurf made a baby. Funny shit
I just did my t5 transmission with rustoleum I baught a quart of gloss black and some acetone used abought 2 pints of paint mixed the acetone in so the consistency was kind of watery so it would flow through my hvlp gun smooth allso preped the transmission with etching primer and I was amazed at the results super shiny super smooth and a quart of paint was under 10 bucks they do have gray not to many colors but we'll worth it and what you save in money.
Honestly man I have done the same to a previous car. I believe it came out damn good! good job buddy.
Thank you!!
Definitely looks way better than before good job
Thanks man
It’s very nice. Can you wash the car ?!? After like not right away but ever?
You did a nice can paint job. We did that to a car in the 70's and it did not look as good as yours. You are now the grey Honda driver to others on the road.
Haha great
Could you add in to the description the different types of sandpaper's you have used please? Also, watching again because I'm not sure if I've missed how many cans you used... I'm doing this to my 2008 honda civic. Was blessed to find one 5 speed with ONLY 81k miles, original owner!!!!! It has been beaten by this Louisiana heat. The most I've painted with spray paint is furniture and I've figured if I can make furniture look good, why not paint my car. And you're right, it can't get any worse, right??
Aaaaaaaahhhhh.... 9 cans!!!!
Hey , I know it’s been a long time since you uploaded this video , but I really wanted to paint my civic all black , u think I should do the same exact steps you did so it can come out good ?
Black is hard because it shows all the flaws. But as far as spray paint goes I still think that stuff I used is the best result you’ll get. But personally I don’t think I would do black
Blacks for the pros to handle hehee
I have exact same car and same color. I want to actually paint it black do i still have to remove the color since its a dark blue already
Looks way better than before good job!
Agreed! Thanks!
Looks really good for rattle can...I'll have to keep that in mind on doing it a bit at a time...keep up the great work.
Have a good'n & be safe.
Thanks!
Turned out good!
Thanks!
Wow now it looks like its freshly primered!
Looks way better dude.
Thanks!
Amazing job, thanks for the tip.. “panel by panel”!!!!
Man it looks a lot better!! How come you don’t like that car? I wish I had one. Should fix it up.
I think I just miss my truck haha I’ve been driving my little Colorado for 5 years straight, so the switch is hard
Check Moore Motorsports aswell for more Rust-Oleum paintjobs Preston, he's pretty decent at what he does with rattle cans on cars. 👍
That turquoise one he painted Massey Furguson gray with an electric spray gun really impressed me. He does a great job with spray cans and hvlp guns, but the electric gun just blew my mind. I had no idea it would lay down as smooth as it did.
Earl Scheib would be proud!!
Love when the beat drops in just want to start dancing
I remember back in the 1960’s you could get a car painted for $39.95. As the TV ad went “I’m Earl Scheib and I’ll paint any car any color for $39.95 and will throw in $10 of free body work”. Your paint job reminded me of one of those paint jobs. Not perfect, but it’s better than what you started with and will get you by. At least you sanded first. My dad bought a 56 Plymouth station wagon from a neighbor who had a one of Earl’s paint jobs. Looked ok until the teal green paint started peeling off the original red paint underneath. Car didn’t get sanded, just wiped down masked and painted. Anyway you did good.
The civic I used to own had an earl scheib paint job when I bought it. It wasn't super bad but very far from good. About 20 ft away it looked nice. The first time I went to wash it there was dirt on the front bumper cover that didn't come off. Turns out it was under the clear coat😂. The drivers side rear quarter panel had 80 grit sanding marks that you could see plain as day. The car was silver so it amplified every defect in the bodywork.
It would have taken a lot longer but I got really good results spray painting cars. You have to do it panel by panel. Tape off everything but the hood. Paint the hood and let it dry. Tape everything off again and paint just a fender and let it dry.....and so on and so on until the car is complete.
Agreed
you could sand it with like 800 grit and clear coat it.
Looks good. Everything you do with your time, I've been wanting to do.
Hopefully some of the videos get you pumped enough to go try some!
That was a lot of work, and I think the results are incredible. I have an even worse 2007 Civic, but I don't believe I could pull this off. But dude...no gloves and no eye protection? That's nasty stuff.
I rattle can painted my HD Sportster. Three colors. Tape nightmare!
Went to buff front fender and dropped it 😢😭
Put a huge scratch in the perfect paint job. Did away with the paint scheme and went solid gray. Liked it solid gray better than what I had done first so I guess it was good I dropped it. 😎
The car looks great for spray paint it, no joke it looks good
How long did it last?
Maybe building a temporary booth with an exhaust fan would take care of the overspray dust issue.
Dope paint job 👍🏾
Wonder if you wax and buff it. Will it shine even more
Can you help me out on how to start it? What sand paper to buy and which spray paint bottle you got? I want to do my civic as well as the paint is really bad
If you have some rough spots you want to smooth out I’d start with 220, and finish with 400 grit. The spray paint you want is Rustoleum Gloss Protective Enamel
Thanks so much my friend you just got a subscriber 🙏🏽 I’ll go get the materials and start working on it. Around how many cans did you use? Is there any type of special spray paint caps you use? The spray on the one you’re using seems fat 🔥
What kind of sanding machine are you using?
Love it !! Come to PA and paint my 2002 Nissan Altima I will pay you!
Gotta love a 1000$ paint job for 45$, good job
Thank you sir!
Yeah I've been waiting for this! 😃
Outstanding job!
👍👍
Love your work, very professional finish 👍🇦🇺
Why thank you!
Fantastic job. Came out great. Write down some of the methaphors you used, for future shirts ideas. i.e. "Smurf pooped on by a geese"
It looks decent
This is a dope edit
Not too shabby bro 🇬🇧👁
Thank you good sir
What is plasti dip? And how is it done? It looks a lot better than it did when you started! I think it came out GREAT! You should be proud of your effort! I would be if I did it that well! CONGRATULATIONS!
Thanks man!! And it supposed to be a removable coating but when people apply it wrong it turns out awful
Buff it out and wax it and some racing decal work tomorrow
Did you have to use a clear coat after ?
I'm confused! Did you make that look so easy or is actually that easy? It looks awesome. I need to the front end of my MK7 GTI as its shot! Do you think it would be easier to just sand the whole car down and start fresh... or will I have huge differences in colour on the panels I don't paint due to not fading them correctly? My local guy wants to charge me $1000
$1,000s not a bad price, this spray paint is a great option if the cars paint is already terrible haha
Just bought the same car this month.
Idk if I should repaint the car or not tho, for I don't know how much it would cost to have the same paintjob as this. :)
Hell, good enough!
Needs a body kit now.
Haha no body kits
I'm hesitant to spray my roof and you go and do a whole car. Looks nice.
Hahaha thanks!
I've seen spray jobs people did with automotive paint that had more orange peel and didn't look half as clean. Overall I would say you did great.
Well thank you
Awesome job! Question, can you drive a car in US without front number plate? Here we must have front plates and with cars that don't provide the space... they look pretty ugly with plates placed "anywhere". Our cars also have the UK kind longer plates... and with a short number on the long plate also looks weird.
It’s a state by state law. In Colorado I think you are supposed to have 2
Good job looks great man
Thank you sir
Looks really good on the video, well done mate👍
Thanks man!
Car looks great! Any better than it did look
Thanks!!
Looks amazing bro
Looks good I still would have liked to see you put 2 blue racing stripes over the truck, roof and hood, but that's just me, thanks love your videos!!!
Thanks man!
You look like Sid from Toy story 😂
Great video btw ☺️
Hahaha I get that a lot
looks great mister
A quick buff and it will look mint😎😎😎
Why in the last bit of that video is your Jeep Corvette red I thought it was that Battleship Gray also
Just got to be easy with the cut and buff but it comes out flawless. You can't even tell my bike is rattle canned.
Good to know!
Nice job
Looks better than bass murf looking color blue on camera
Just get a couple of your friends and go to town on it... But still looks a lot better then it did...
Agreed
Looks good
Nicely done 👍
