I grew up with women like this big, bold, beautiful. I am grateful for my inspirations! They were quite lovely, brown-skinned and chalk full of soul! Puro Alma! My own Mama reminds me of what she is wearing here on stage. My Mama was a nurse plus more! I love Big Mama sitting by her window "looking out at the rain!" She is BEYOND COOL!
Yes. all women are inspirations to me! I am not ashamed of being me! I love all people men and women! And, Big Mama sends out love and compassion! I know for a fact I did not disrespect people! I merely had a fetish! Nothing else! Never meant to harms anyone!
I just want you and others to know I adore the women that raised me. I too am big and brown! My Mama was an LPN she dressed in nurses clothing! I loved her without a doubt!
I was born in the 80s. Over 15 years ago I introduced myself to Muddy Waters Lightnin' Hopkins and many more blues singers from the 40s 50s and 60s era. I had never known about this music or heard it before. I like the old blues clubs in the movies too. I love Big Mama Thornton! What a show! What a good time!
I just KNEW IT!!! This woman is the best realist story ever!!!!! I now understand what it means to be a fan! I want to know the story and the music and everything!!!
She really did play the harmonica! Only woman I've ever seen recorded playing one. What a woman! She really was wonderful, wasn't she? (Cut me slack, jack, I'm just learning the lady existed this very week, thanks to a friend on the opposite side of the planet, in case anyone wondered.)
As a teenager had almost all of these musicians albums. Drove my parents crazy! Went to every blues and jazz festival I could find back then. I so miss my youth dancing to Thorton, Muddy, etc. This takes me back!
God Bless our Godmother of some of the greatest blues ever created, this woman needs recognition, she paves the way, heartfelt and god knows she had her share of hard times but a high rolling freight never stopped from doing fabulous shows, damn it I love her, just like Elvis and Janis Joplin with Ball and Chain and Hound Dog, plus......there was no one like her❤ RIP MY BEAUTIFUL QUEEN
T.C.R Man Oh Man that was a most uplifting bust a moves rip tha shirt off DANCE WOW Tha Blues is Big MaMa and Muddy paved tha way and the Delta Blues on da MAP ! LOVE IT ALL TY 4 vid !!

Ultra self-talented . I wonder why the men didn't pitch in together and bought her 2 or 3 gowns, which she would have held onto for the next 29 years, 😎💥❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🏵🌺🌻🌼💐💐💐💐💐⭐⭐⭐
You want to know what gave birth to ROCK& ROLL , you looking at it. Canned heat, rolling stones, chuck berry, little richard, elvis, the British band invasion, these artist and others like them are their influences. FACTS!!!
We need to put Mama, and all the other great artists in Hall of fame, and pay them for making other artists like Elvis millions, or just take all dues from e.g Elvis; Hound Dog, and give them to the closest surviving relatives of Mama.
Rebecca and others Please know that neither Big Mama Thornton nor Elvis wrote “Hound Dog”. Two men wrote it, so any royalties are paid to them/their estates. Anybody has right to sing a song you wrote, with permission, it may have different arrangement. If you hear Big Mama speak about, “Ball and Chain”, she always mentions that she wrote it. Janice Joplin has to pay royalties to BM for it.
This is one of the best things I've seen on UA-cam. Just fantastic. Thank you to whoever posted it! Who knew Big Mama could blow harp like that?! And Muddy -- his visage belongs on Mount Rushmore along with Otis Spann.
Today, December 11, 2016 is the 90th anniversary of the birth of Big Mama Thornton. If you are interested in more recordings of distinguished African-American musicians, please check out my historical youtube channel "Remember our Music" a site which daily honors a great African-American musician including Sammy Davis Jr., King Oliver, Jonah Jones, Igatius Sancho born in 1729 and the three Sonnys: Sonny Phillips, Sonny Greer and Sonny Boy Williamson, all born in the month of December!
