- $1000 fine or 30 Day imprisonment (jail time) for loud or aftermarket exhaust!!! Mid Muffler delete & resonator is illegal with new Exhaust law. Any exhaust alteration will now be illegal & will be punishable with $1000 ticket or fine (possibly even jail). This new Exhaust law makes it illegal to alter your exhaust in anyway which includes mid muffler delete, resonator delete or any aftermarket catback exhaust.

New York is a catch and release state. I live in the woods but just 20 minutes from the Capital District. There are daily shootings, stabbings, tons of motorized mini bikes, ATV's and pocket bikes all over the streets going wild un checked. And when they do get arrested they arereleased on anything short of a homicide. This exhaust law is all about money grab. NY is soft on violent crimes, yet feels exhaust is the problem. Stop the constant gun fire all night and broad day light. Will they Stop the burglaries and drug shootings? nope! Instead I gotta worry about a $1,000 fine driving my 52 year old muscle car to a cars and coffee. Stupid NY.
Someone has to pay for all that damage caused by criminals🤷🏻♂️
They want that quick easy $$$ from people that just want to work, go home & enjoy some weekend cruising. They should be busy earning their 100+k jobs & catching people doing real crime. It's sad & most can't leave the state because of how expensive it is. They just don't have the $$$ relocate

Yep all of there money has moved south from NC to Florida used to it was a mixed bag of relocation folks but since Covid I’d say 90% or more of the relocations are from NY

If politicians are worried about the decibel level of a car, they deserve to be removed from office and replace them with individual who care about more important matters.
Politicians are not worried about the decibel level of an exhaust (or car stereo). What they are worried about is their constituents. If enough of them voice complaints about an issue, politicians will take notice and direct their energy to that issue (you know, those are potential votes out there).

@@Brandon-yb4tr any RT before 2017 has the same exhaust setup as the SXT (no valves, different resonators, smaller pipes). Mine is a 2020 and has the same exhaust setup that they use on the new scat packs and SRT 392’s

"equal protection under the law" means it ishould be a decible limit applied to all vehicles if they want to go this route. that means city buses, garbage trucks, etc should be bound the same way. the noise may not come from the exhaust but i can hear them two blocks away.
City buses don't have loud exhausts just for the sake of being loud. No one puts special exhaust systems on buses to show off.

Definitely after my enlistment I’m not moving back to NY, I can have a train screaming in the rails at 2 in morning but not a car that got stock exhaust(hellcats) and other V8 get a fine that can put off of my bills for a while….sickening

This law is horrible. I’m lucky I’m able to get my challenger inspected at a place where I’ve gotten work done before. If I’m driving and see a cop I use my paddle shifters to shift up to keep the noise down
NY is crazy man. Anytime I saw a cop my heart would start racing because I knew it was likely time to get pulled over. Even if I'm just casually cruising in the slow lane. Hope you stay ticket free out there!

I drive a challenger and love the sound. I also like some of the cars around town. But in my area their is one person that is so loud you can hear him easily 10 to 15 blocks away.

Va. Just changed the law on exhaust modification and noise again. Its gone back to being able to pull you over for noise. Used to be couldnt be primary reason for pulling you over.

State police couldn’t catch me in my Tahoe from valley stream to Brooklyn on the belt last year. Then I get pulled over afterwards while driving slow in bay ridge and they let me go. I was going back to stock anyway, too damn loud with straight pipes. I knew about the law being passed soon since then but went ahead and muffled her up to avoid being drained $$$
Finally appropriate law and enforcement to allow us our basic right to sleep. I hope they vote similar law in Florida
