Doh!!! There was a manual all the time inside the installer package. So the Left stick is on the usual GM notes: D1 for centre snare & E1 for rimshot... the right-stick snare is up on notes D3 (centre snare) & E3 (rimshot) & right-stick toms notes are all up at the top: G3 A3 B3 C4 D4 - sorry, missed that! + there is lots of other notes for different types of hi-hat hits. cymbal hits etc
Hi I don't buy plug-ins but I'll have a look. There are instruments in Logic so I try to use those. I also have Ableton and it comes with a ton. Modo is good for sure.
As a Superior Drummer 3 user, I don't need this, but will watch anything that Matt posts, here! Definitely looks like a contender. Interesting, in that it's a MODELLING instrument, rather than a massive group of samples... has to be said, that the BASIC install for the current SD3 kit is 48GB! And if I was in the market for a virtual drum kit, now, this would be up there as a contender.
@@dancetech Yes. I figured it would be a much smaller install. I also have Modart's Pianoteq piano modeller, which is great, too. Tiny footprint compared to the massive sampling piano libraries around. Currently 15 mins into the video, and I'm thinking that I would have gone down this route, rather than the SD3 route, now. SD3 sounds great, and also has lots of customisation, but if I want the basic kit AND all the standard mics. its 96GB in size. This is Twiggy by comparison. And yes. You're right. It sounds great!
lol, fugging Logic & sticky notes!!!!!!!! SOOOO annoying. I cant see how IK Multimedia do this without samples, but i've searched and cant find any such content so far...i'd assumed maybe they used a sample for the transient attack?? bit like the old d50 type synths, sample for the attack & synthesis for the hold/decay/sustain/release tones but maybe not, if i find the content i'll post it.... the right stick might be something to do with the built in patterns btw, i'll ask them.
I got Superior Drummer 3 which is fantastic overall but it's not intuitive at all as far as I can tell, I really struggle to get what I want there. Modo Drum looks super slick and intuitive, might indeed get it even though I got SD3. I love Modo Bass & this looks like a perfect companion.
Been checking out sample drum libraries but I think I'm going with this instead. What I like is being able to teak any drum anyway you want. I'm most picky about the snare, and I often wish I could tweak the snare just a touch and now you can with this. I have a preconception that samples are better then modelling, but if the modeling is accurately done, it's basically the same digital waveform, is it not? If I didn't know this was modeling I would believe it was samples.
it is insane alright. Yet if you're going for a very realistic drum sound, I believe few people actually have the knowledge to work out what they need to do with all these elements to get what they want... I think it's clearly an engineer's plug in and its excellence will be lost on your average bedroom producer... You're obviously having a lot of fun with it... which is cool to watch
@@Willigrow The presets sound really weird to me as well as the official demos. It's not quite on par with Superior Drummer 3 (can be machine-gunny, less features, the rooms sound kinda meh etc.) but I can still get much better sounds out of it than the presets offer.
@@Tremendouz Yeah I don't like the presets out of the box as well. But I find the interface very intuitive and easy to understand, so it is easy for me to sculpt the preset and make the sound I like. Didn't really have the machine gun problem, maybe try making the hitting area bigger for more variety. Also I usually never use the rooms that come with the plugins, I prefer to use my reverbs and rooms. But yeah, if the Superior fits you needs, no reason to switch.
I use modo drums and I love them. I am just quite confused about the meaning of OH and Room there. Are they there just for people who don't want to use reverbs and busses directly in DAW? I send all drums to a unique track in DAW and I adjust them there. I also send them to a drum bus where I use compression, EQ, and so on and I send them to a reverb bus. Does it have meaning for me to think about OH and room with this approach?
OH and room are there to replicate real physical drum recording. Overhead microphones are used to capture a complete image of the drum set and glue it together (including often pieces of the kit that don’t have their own dedicated microphones). It’s not really a reverb thing it’s just something you can edit to physically model the exact way you would want to record physical drums but like virtual.
I should be sleeping. I'm watching this instead. Now I can't sleep;. lol This is any serious drum tweaker's full scale insanity dream! Just daaaamn! And best part, no sampling! Truly insane! awesome walkthrough.
Thanks for this tut. I am not a book-worm as such. I am really trying to find a very short video tutorial on simply setting up a bunch of tracks in my DAW, a single drum channel on each track using a individual elements of the kit on individual tracks (simple as that). The default multititrack load option loads a bunch of tracks , but only plays with the same track 1 as a stereo track. Meanwhile there are a bunch of tracks below it with MODO Drum assigned as a plugin and are doing absolutely nothing! Cannot get my head around something that should be very intuitive. The Mixer in MODO Drum has assignable outputs, But this changes nothing either. A good tip on Multitrack setups would be great. I Know what they sound like. They sound great! Great functions! But Multitracking? How? ...copy/pasting a heap of midi records into new tracks and deleting the unwanted bits is getting extremely painful. :)
Hi all ! Beware that this amazing product need a "AVX Instructions" processor. I didn't new this spécification. I can't install. What a shame… Thanks for all Dancetech perhaps you made a warning but my english isn't so good. Best Regards
Wow! I must say this is pretty delicious! I am thinking of getting it but am wondering about how to manage the data with my Mac mini. Do you have any technique on how best to store this type of plug-in on an external ssd drive? The question is about seamless use of it. Would you be able to make a video on the topic of downloading and storing these very big files on macs and integrate with Logic pro X? Again, thank you and frankly Modo developers should be very excited about your interest in their products because nobody can teach like you do... Remember, there are a lot of us out there watching you from the analogue planet of yesteryears and all this fantastic digital revolution in music is a challenge to grasp. So inspiring!!
There is no samples so the footprint should be manageable. I havent grab it yet myself but that was one of the selling points for it. Gonna do a review myself on this thing.
Can I use this with my eDrum kit as I do with Addictive and EZdrummer? I got the Alesis Pro just for the drum (pads) themselves and I use AD and EZ for the sounds, as the brain/controller on the Alesis isn't all that great for sounds.
@@dancetech Thanks for the response. If it's like EZD and AD you can just use the midi map and hit learn for each drum/cymbal. Hit the learn button, then hit the drum and it's set. Thanks for the info, I may check this out, just for the custom settings, that looks limitless.

The drum sounds (and cymbals) are pretty much indistinguishable from real mic'd drums, and full of life & all the usual drum artefacts when you listen in isolation... well you just sling the MODO DRUM on a drummer track. the track still does the drummer patterns.

yes, watch the video 1400 patterns & fills

you can turn either head right down - if you do that AND turn down the overhead & room feed the drum makes no sound at all
those snares let this down big time.... and the standard Jazz kit with so much reverb.....im sorry , not sold, and i was hoping i would love it.
