Isabella was so noble. She realized that Art, in the best sense, should always be shared and available to everyone. And she succeeded. I encourage anyone who owns valuable art to do the same. While few could build a museum for the public, all could eventually donate their art to a college or museum. Pay it forward and make the world a better place.

HJ, This is a video that feeds the eye, the ear, the soul. The The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is breathtaking and to have Mrs. Gardner's story told by one who clearly loves the place was a real treat. Now I will need to view "The Wings of the Dove". I will look for it this evening. I may need to watch this video again on the television before I watch the movie. Thank you for this labor of love. Best wishes! I look forward to seeing you again further down the road.

You worked there!? This is one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, I've only visited once but need to go back in the next few years. It's wonderful that this art is available for the public to view instead of being tucked away in private. Those empty frames really make a profound statement. I had an unexpected emotional reaction to them in person. The world really is filled with beauty for those who take the time to look...

What a lovely video. The museum has always had a place in my heart. When I was in middle school I was in a program sponsored by the Boston pops called Days in the Arts. During the year we went on field trips and one of the was to the ISGM .. The Storm on the Sea of Galilee left an impression on me. I LOVED all things nautical. The was it was painted was just amazing it fed my soul. I remember going over there later when I was in high school... then college. Then when I heard it was stolen I sat and cried. It took me years to go back to see if it was really gone. Art, writing, books, etc... changed my life....

What a fascinating video, Hemingway. Thank you so much. Your connection and attachment to the Museum came through so strongly. Apart from everything else that I enjoyed in the video was the poignancy of the empty picture frames in the gallery - a remembrance of things lost and a hope that they may be restored to their rightful place in the future. If I may, I’d also like to express my appreciation of your channel in general, the level to which you have taken this arcane hobby of fountain pen collecting is simply wonderful. Chapeau!

I had a dream about a very similar place about twenty years ago and happened to write it down in an old journal. There was water in the middle of the courtyard over a mosaic floor. No idea why I’m telling HS and UA-cam this. The entire video felt oddly familiar but I’ve never been to the museum. Glad that I stumbled across your videos. Cheers to you and yours from me and mine in Colorado. My hubby and kids and I will have to check out the museum when we visit Boston. Thank you for your content!

“I enjoy carrying the torch of history further…”, what a lovely thought and worthy goal, Hemingway. I’m so sorry I missed this jewel when I was in Boston, but you have inspired me to pursue local art museums in my area. I agree with your pursuit of perfecting handwriting as your signature card to the world and to bring joy to the recipients of your letters. The empty frames were both heart-wrenching and hope filled that someday these precious objects will return to their rightful home. Thank you for another fine video.

It's such a shame about the art theft, there are few enough Vermeers in the world as it is. I just hope it and the other stolen works are on the wall of some selfish collector, and not disposed of ruinously.

“Heist” makes it sound daring or romantic. It was a brutal act of cultural vandalism and a grubby theft.
I appreciate your video of the museum. It’s a beautiful home for the art. The next time I decide to visit Boston, I’ll look forward to visiting it. Perhaps with a journal and an italian pen. Either a vintage Omas or a Visconti, now that those are part of my collection. As lovely as that Montblanc is, its spirit seems to me as Teutonic as its looks. Dark academia in a Venetian palazzo calls for something lovely and poisonous, like an Isto Aracnis. Or an Egyptomania with the poisoned breath of a pharaoh’s tomb. Not all Montblancs radiate their Teutonic heritage.

Another superb video in a truly outstanding venue. I have been to the Boston area several times (Harvard Square, New England Aquarium, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, etc.) and I genuinely wish I had known about this museum. Thank you for the grand tour as well as for sharing your own priceless experiences. Now the real question is: where did you get that shirt? It is exquisite. I don't ever wear henleys or short sleeve shirts no matter what the weather (just my personal preference). Cheers

I am so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks. The Gardner is basically across the street from the MFA, so next time... I put wardrobe notes in the description, by the way; since so many people ask. The Safari shirt is Ralph Lauren from around 20 years ago. Thanks!

Lovely and fascinating! Very much enjoyed the handwriting samples. Who knows? Perhaps these expanded audience members may see one of those pictures in some darker dark academian’s library. Where else would they be? And then they might be returned!

Thank you for taking me around the museum. I live in a place that doesn't have any art museums around, in those big cities of my country there are, but it's not even comparable to American or European countries. I'm jealous because even someone who is not into art still has the opportunity to visit museums and acknowledge what is art, what is beauty. Unlike the arts in my country which are generally underrated and of course low paid.
My grandma for example, when I confess to her that I will choose art as my major her response like I'm old for drawing and that is not a real job. I don't blame her but that is how old generation opinion in my country about art (she live in a big city). Like you can draw but only when you still a child, adult? Must find a real job to settle. Sorry for my off topic comment 😂

I beautiful video and museum. I’m curious how you feel about the new building changing, if only to one wall, the museum. I could see it being polarizing, though it seems like they really tried to minimize the impact to try to meet the needs of the museum and it’s guests.

Hello Lucas, thanks so much for commenting and for the great question. I hope all is well with you. Thanks so much for being here. I appreciate it as always, so yes, it was very polarizing at the time I was working at the museum when they did this and some people were upset, but of course it went through probate court and Harvard signed off on it. If you read her will it did stipulated that the museum could build an additional building on the grounds if it felt like it needed it so they had justification. They only ended up moving one piece in a wall just a little bit to the side so the impact was minimal. They were then able to restore the Tapestry Room to its former glory. It didn’t bother me. Although I have mixed feelings about the new building.

Maybe this says something about the lust for possession. Those works of art, which are valueless if not appreciated, vanished. If they still exist in wrongful hands, then the need to have them outweighs the glory of presenting them to an appreciative world.
That makes me appreciate my poverty.

It’s sad. It’s the cultural heritage of Boston and the wider world looted. Personally, I think they are gone. I hope not. But it has been a long time.
