DD FriscoTX I live in Fort Wayne and when you are deep downtown, there are a lot of bad looking houses but when you are northwest that is where the “richer” ppl live. So Fort Wayne has its ups and downs, I don’t think it should be on this list and if it was it would be like 10
I was born in Hammond (nearby gary) and lived in Lake station for my toddler years. Then high tailed it to the country--to a town that no one's heard of, so that's great. Ah, indiana
If you live in South Bend and you're unemployed it's because you don't wanna work. There are so many help wanted signs posted in that city it's ridiculous.
Being born in Marion and raised in Anderson I can tell you that if you need advice for living in the "hood" just mind your buiseness and don't disrespect people and you'll be safe for the most part
@CAMERON DALE "big cities" lol kills me when people from Decatur refer to Fort Wayne as a big city. Moving here from one of the biggest cities in the world I still feel like I'm in a corn husk field
I joined the USAF on my 17th Birthday while still in HS.Waited till Dad was drunk to sign parental consent form, about 6 o'clock every day ! I didn't tell my mom till the night before leaving for Boot camp 3wks after graduation .Thank God I got out.I traveled the world. Learned a very tech savvy job and only went back once again 25 years later to attend a funeral. I was amazed how many people I went to school with never left the hustle and bustle of Beech Grove IN.
@@chazvalvo2840 My exodus was the similar. One month after my 18th Birthday, I enlisted in the Navy. Parents wouldn't sign for me before 18. Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana so I must not be doing too bad. I used to hate living in Indiana but then I grew up and realized exactly how good I have it! Seriously, do a little resesarch and compare the cost of living, unemployment, schools, etc. Fort Wayne is an awesome place to live - if you aren't afraid of a little cold once in awhile.
Ive been robbed at gunpoint and shot in the head here but everyone knows when there's a problem with someone it gets handled quick and quiet with no 5-o
I say this all the time but no.........Lots of people are actually comfortable paying 1200 dollars a month for rent for a shitty ass studio in an over congested city.
The Northwestern side of the state was heavy manufacturing back in the day from Chicago to South Bend... when the industry dried up many towns went to crap. A lot of them are in the processes of rebuilding though.
I live in mishawaka which is the city over from South Bend, and I’ll tell you what. Your lucky if you can go more than 2 days without hearing that there was a shooting in South Bend
I grew up in River Park, went to Nuner Elementary. I always knew that there were things to watch out for, and situations to avoid, but I never felt like SB was a bad place simply because of those things. I also lived in Elkhart and went to Concord Westside. I would choose South Bend any day.
Terre Haute has been held back in development for years due to the unions and the Hulman family. Changing Indiana to a "Right to Work" state is a good start.
Just don’t live in northern Indiana. Everywhere south of Indianapolis is really nice. You’ll know when you’re in southern Indiana when you see the hills south of Martinsville.
I grew up in Franklin, IN and moved to Naperville, IL. My first sales job took me from Naperville to alot of these towns regularly and I was quick to quit that sales job and get a job in an office in the Northwest Suburbs...
Why are there so many people saying that Indiana is boring? Indiana really isn't that boring. I lived in Georgia and Mississippi before moving here to Indiana and it really isn't all that bad here. Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Lafayatte, Middlebury, and Michigan City are all good places (even though Michigan City made the list even though Michigan City isn't that bad), there's lots of pretty good farms here, and the seasons here are pretty good. If the only thing you have for Indiana is hate, then I sure feel sorry for you. Indiana is not a horrible place to live. It might not be the best place, but it sure as hell isn't the worst. Grow up people.
Johnny Savage Middlebury has a lot of Amish cultures all throughout the town. It maybe boring to you if you're not into small towns, but it's beautiful to me.
Figured Evansville would be on here, it’s the actual highest for meth labs in Indian in I think 2015-2017 and it’s called mini Chicago, used to live next to it, it’s a great place till you get to the getto part of it, down town is absolutely beautiful there tho
I am from Evansville. When I was a kid it was not dangerous at all. Now it has become quite dangerous. I definitely won't walk around downtown without pepper spray or at least a group of people. It's kind of sad. But as cities Grove crime rates Skyrocket. It's not the worst place in the world but it's definitely not the best. At least they have a zoo? And not s*** else to do
Evansville isn’t bad. Downtown is drastically improving, especially with the new med school. There’s a number of new business that have opened. Hell, even Hainey’s corner is buzzing.
Lived in Michigan City and Fort Wayne and have had a great quality of life in both. It is what you make of it. A person with a critical spirit would find fault no matter what. A person with a good outlook will see the best. I love Indiana and all it has to offer.
You've clearly never been to Fort Wayne. Between the government running the drug game, consistent tent fires, insane amount murder and crazy protection of pædœfiles, I seriously doubt there's such a thing as a "quality of life in Fort Wayne."
I live in Kokomo indiana it's not that bad here 🤷♀️ I have lived here since I was born and I knew Marion was going to be on this list for sure and I knew Gary was going to be on this list
Sorry to say Kokomo has down graded over the years. Used to be a stable factory town with fairlylow crime rates. Now Drugs and shootings are on the rise and traffic is something of its own and the mayor of that town is the biggest joke I have ever seen. I to was born and raises in Kokomo. So glad I dont live there anymore.
It was actually voted as Indiana's best kept secret by some travel magazine. And as someone who has spent their whole life in Muncie, I can say that while there is some great things about this city, it is a shithole.
I was born and raised in Anderson. It used to be a booming auto town. Of course, all those factories closed and in came the drugs and massive poverty. I moved away the second I could. It's so depressing visiting. Doesn't even feel like home anymore.
I lived briefly in Anderson as a kid in the early 70's. It was an absolute dump then, and I went back once as adult to see if it was as bad as i remembered....oh yeah it was! But I admit i live in the dump of ohio...known as Dayton.
Anderson and Muncie died when the good paying factorys closed down. Property tax raises and generally worn infrastructure killed the once low cost of living. Low cost of living and a good paying job is what made the area once desirable to live in!!! When the jobs available pay McDonald's wages I'd rather at least live in a van by the river in a warmer climate. Florida beach side would be a choice place to park the van.
1 March 2021: TH city government for many years now does not allow factories to foul the air. There were some meth labs along the river and they were an air-quality issue until demolished around 2007. Wabash River wetlands have been protected for at least ten years now. ~ Crawford D. Smith.
South Bend has become much nicer in the past 10-15 years. In fact, the Mayor of South Bend has done such a great job improving the city that there are a lot of people who see him as a future Presidential candidate.
lamelo ball You are correct! Indiana is a good state to live in. There might be bad areas in Indiana, but most of it is beautiful. I have friends and family that live in Indianapolis, South Bend, Evansville, and Bloomington and those are all good cities.
"Not that bad", Huh? LOL! You don't get out of Indiana much, do ya'? Indiana is one of the most UNDESIRABLE states in the country. (Did the sunlight hit the brain yet?)
I've lived in Indiana all my life, nobody told me you could leave. There are only 2 types of people that live in Terre Haute, those who can't sell their houses, and those on the Fed Witness Protection Program. Tattoo parlors, and loans to payday stores are booming. The Pawn shop businesses are thriving too. You forgot Valparaiso's heroin problem.
My father was from Indiana, and the first 12 years of my life were spent in and around Shelbyville. I thought it sucked, but that young I couldn't have cited any reasons. I live in Tallahassee, Fl., and the crime rate is the highest in the state. My home has been burglarized 3 times in the last 20 years!!!

Brittany Nicole WOAHWOAH, I’m in Lafayette as well. What school do you go to?

Fort Wayne should be on here because we pretty much get amber alerts everyday here
The Wanderer fort wayne does
The Fort has great parts, and not so great. It really is a mixture and frankly, not that bad for how many people live there.
DD FriscoTX I live in Fort Wayne and when you are deep downtown, there are a lot of bad looking houses but when you are northwest that is where the “richer” ppl live. So Fort Wayne has its ups and downs, I don’t think it should be on this list and if it was it would be like 10
Hell yeah you do 😂 I’m sick of all the alerts that invade my phone

I joined the USAF on my 17th Birthday while still in HS.Waited till Dad was drunk to sign parental consent form, about 6 o'clock every day !
Getting shot
I have lived all over the country. Been to every major city. But Richmond Indiana will always be home
Born and raised in the fort too. Who else knew which cities would hit this list?
I notice a lot of the cities were near Gary
it isnt gary , its all these cities in that area are basically suburbs of that shithole chicago .
The Northwestern side of the state was heavy manufacturing back in the day from Chicago to South Bend... when the industry dried up many towns went to crap. A lot of them are in the processes of rebuilding though.
Marion, Anderson, Muncie, and Connorsville aren't anywhere near Gary though
Michael Dennis Starbuck yeah they aren't. I've lived in two of those, been to all four, and originally hail from one of the cities listed in this
Both Gary and Chicago sure have a lot of shares in trouble when it comes to crime.
I live in mishawaka which is the city over from South Bend, and I’ll tell you what. Your lucky if you can go more than 2 days without hearing that there was a shooting in South Bend
Im from the Bend but moved to Anderson
I grew up in River Park, went to Nuner Elementary. I always knew that there were things to watch out for, and situations to avoid, but I never felt like SB was a bad place simply because of those things. I also lived in Elkhart and went to Concord Westside. I would choose South Bend any day.
How is Mishawaka? I'm looking at a job there. At least it isn't on this list.
Update: there have been two shootings in Mishawaka all at the UP Mall 😂😂

Haha everywhere south of Indy? You must have never been to Austin, Scottsburg, Clarksville, or Jeffersonville.
I grew up in Franklin, IN and moved to Naperville, IL. My first sales job took me from Naperville to alot of these towns regularly and I was quick to quit that sales job and get a job in an office in the Northwest Suburbs...

Indiana is just overall depressing🤷♀️

What side of Indiana is the most dangerous overall. east, west, or south?
No it's not
Why are there so many people saying that Indiana is boring?
That Irish Chevy Truck Man From Indianapolis South Bend isn’t all that bad either.
Kenneth Jones Williams-Zweirzchowski I am just now seeing your comment. And yes, I forgot to mention South Bend not being so bad.
Johnny Savage Middlebury has a lot of Amish cultures all throughout the town. It maybe boring to you if you're not into small towns, but it's beautiful to me.
Johnny Savage Try visiting the Amish buffet and family restaurant there in Middlebury. I’ll tell you that right now. Lol
MC & SB aren't that bad to visit, shop, etc. But I was raised in MC and lived in SB for 2 years... They are terrible places to live.
Figured Evansville would be on here, it’s the actual highest for meth labs in Indian in I think 2015-2017 and it’s called mini Chicago, used to live next to it, it’s a great place till you get to the getto part of it, down town is absolutely beautiful there tho
Ike Willoughby just stay east of 41
Evansville try to Annex all of Vanderburgh County. But the County residents voted a hard no to it
I work downtown and we lovingly refer to it as the knife and gun club. 🤣
Several of these are former steel mill cities. How the mighty have fallen.
Lived in Michigan City and Fort Wayne and have had a great quality of life in both. It is what you make of it. A person with a critical spirit would find fault no matter what. A person with a good outlook will see the best. I love Indiana and all it has to offer.
Well said. Beautifully stated.
You've clearly never been to Fort Wayne. Between the government running the drug game, consistent tent fires, insane amount murder and crazy protection of pædœfiles, I seriously doubt there's such a thing as a "quality of life in Fort Wayne."
Southern Indiana is a great place to live. Of course near Chicago is going to suck because It's crowded.
Right? My town is super chill.
I live in New Albany, which is about as southern as you can get...we are just outside of Lousiville, KY

#Kokomo
Sorry to say Kokomo has down graded over the years. Used to be a stable factory town with fairlylow crime rates. Now Drugs and shootings are on the rise and traffic is something of its own and the mayor of that town is the biggest joke I have ever seen. I to was born and raises in Kokomo. So glad I dont live there anymore.
Love ya kokomo :)
I live in Kokomo to I love it but downtown can be scary sometimes lol!

Gary was featured on the "Life After People" TV series. Pretty much sums it up LOL.
I knew Muncie would make the list. I lived there for many years and it's an absolute shithole, wouldn't recommend even visiting.
Jerry from Parks and Rec always took his family on vacations to Muncie hahahaha so good
I was just there
Daniel Thompson What about Concannons
It was actually voted as Indiana's best kept secret by some travel magazine. And as someone who has spent their whole life in Muncie, I can say that while there is some great things about this city, it is a shithole.
Eh, its better than Anderson. At least you guys have a Target!
"Anderson not as bad sad Gary" -Anderson's town motto
true
I don't think anderson is as bad
I was born and raised in Anderson. It used to be a booming auto town. Of course, all those factories closed and in came the drugs and massive poverty. I moved away the second I could. It's so depressing visiting. Doesn't even feel like home anymore.
I lived briefly in Anderson as a kid in the early 70's. It was an absolute dump then, and I went back once as adult to see if it was as bad as i remembered....oh yeah it was! But I admit i live in the dump of ohio...known as Dayton.
Anderson and Muncie died when the good paying factorys closed down. Property tax
raises and generally worn infrastructure killed the once low cost of living.
Low cost of living and a good paying job is what made the area once desirable to live in!!!
When the jobs available pay McDonald's wages I'd rather at least live in a van by the river in a warmer climate. Florida beach side would be a choice place to park the van.
you forgot to mention that terre haute smells bad. I don’t think that positive can outweigh a bad smelling city.
but we all knew gary was #1.
Actually, the smell you are referring to is gone now that we no longer have the paper mill. I find this list suspect, anyway.
1 March 2021: TH city government for many years now does not allow factories to foul the air. There were some meth labs along the river and they were an air-quality issue until demolished around 2007. Wabash River wetlands have been protected for at least ten years now. ~ Crawford D. Smith.
As someone who grew up in Lake Station this list is pretty accurate lmao we all knew who was going to get that number one spot tho 😏

Gary makes the Top 10 Worst Cities in the US too. Top 3 even.
What are the worse two? Detroit and Baltimore?
D Smith Detroit would probably be number 1, but I’m sure Baltimore, Flint, or St. Louis would make number 2.
Indiana... you gotta get through us to get somewhere better.
