    I've been traveling with just a 16 liter backpack for years. I only take two outfits plus what I'm wearing and a swimsuit and just plan on rinsing my clothes in the sink each night. It makes it so much easier to get around once I get to my destination. I don't have to check in anywhere before exploring because my pack is so light.

      I have been doing the same. One to wear, one in the wash and one to spare. The problem sometimes for me is where to dry my clothes as many hostels don't have this kind of facilities. How do you dry your clothes while travelling?

    • @veggirl1964
      @veggirl1964 3 роки тому +8

      @@pogoarora7202 I wash everything in the sink unless I am lucky enough to have access to a washer. I roll them up in a towel and stomp on it to get out excess moisture, then hang them from any place I can find - a chair, a headboard, a ceiling fan, a shower rod, over a lamp (that is not turned on), a curtain rod, over the top of a door (usually put a towel over the door first, because doors can be really dusty/dirty), a hammock, a towel hook, etc. I used to travel with foldable hangers to make this easier, but didn't like how much space they took up. I have also traveled with a clothesline, but always had trouble finding two good anchor spots, so stopped doing that. They can also be dried flat on a towel on the bed, but that takes longer to dry. I don't use a dryer at home, so have never used one when I travel.

    Great vid, gonna switch to this bag soon, it is actually small enough to be a personal item. This means flying even cheaper, because with more and more budget airlines, only a personal item is allowed for free. What I do is I made a travel pillow case that I can stuff with my bulkiest clothing items and wear it around my neck when I board. This way the bag is small enough to take as a personal item, you can put in under the seat.

    Merino wool is the best. it was really nice of them to let you get away with 16KG, I have managed to get all my stuff down to 5KG without a macbook air. After 130 countries over 35 years, traveling light and compact is the way to go. I use a tom bihn 25L, and an 8L sling. Not a fan of merino wool, it did not last, ripped easily, and felt itchy. I use lightweight underwear from Walmart- dries overnight. Underarmour shirts with collar- look nice, no wrinkles, dry overnight. I also prefer a lightweight compact umbrella- every rain jacket makes you sweat- easy to deploy for rain showers. The tips in the video are excellent. Its amazing how much crap most travellers carry.

    I really liked this video!
    I'm going on a six week, maybe longer trip to Eastern Europe summer of 2022. Searching for a bag to carry on I found the Osprey Porter series bags. I already own 4 Osprey backpacks and so knew they made good stuff. I bought the 46liter Porter since it was touted as being small enough to be a "carry on". Cinched up it is only slightly larger than a standard roll around carry on I've had a long time and just used last July. I may take more "luxury gear" than you, e.g a Henry Shires Half Rainbow silnylon tarptent(2lbs). It packs very small. Even weirder is I own a Sony a6600 and originally planned to take it with a 16-105mm. But not having seen this video, I decided to do what you are planning and buy a Sony RX100 mark VII!! LOL for the same reasons. It is waterproof, a big deal for me as I will be doing some hiking and camping. It shoots 4k and has RAW+jpg blah blah. WAY smaller and lighter, and easier to use for quick shots, etc. I also have had 3 Sea to Summit compression bags for years. I agree, they are GOOD stuff. I think I'm good for clothes except I need to get the merino wool shirts and maybe 2 pairs of merino underwear. I've had ExOfficio boxers for years for backpacking. I may add some cooler weather clothes since I plan to go up into the Carpathian mountain area to hike and/or backpack. I feel a LOT better about my choices having seen your video!! THx pete

      30 And A Wake Up Best Backpack I’ve ever owned and it is in like new condition even though I’ve taken it everywhere over the last 5 years. I’ve been interested in the Eagle Creek Switchback Bag as of late because it has wheels yet you can also wear it as a backpack and that’s not it, it also has a daypack. The only issue is that it is International Carry On compliant meaning it’s smaller than my Farpoint, but I have to find something that is “convertible” meaning can be a roller or backpack depending on my needs. Love the videos buddy, keep it up! I think I could pack less but I would lose some fun items like my JBL Bluetooth speaker which came in handy many times

  • @tarac5137

    Impressive! The compression sac seems good for the long-term travel you are doing and unpacking each location. Would the cubes be better for shorter stays? Hi, Thanks for your videos that I found very interesting as a guy in his 40's who consider adopting a nomad lifestyle soon. I even consider joining remote year as a starting point. But I have a specific question linked to that video. I've seen that you did some serious hiking, especially in Latin America (Machu Pichu, Patagonia, etc.). How have you managed to do this with your rather urban-oriented stuff? What about the shoes, no hiking boots? Kind Regards!

    • @30AndAWakeUp

      Couple things...the pants (bluff works) are great for hiking and the merino wool shirts I use are also perfect for hiking. I hiked Machu Picchu with just the black tennis shoes you see in the vid. For Patagonia I rented hiking boots. In most places with serious hiking...you'll be able to rent gear pretty cheap.

    Did you buy your camera yet? As someone who knows camera gear I would recommend the Sony RX100 VA. It's a bit cheaper and much better in low light due to its f1.8 lens. Yes the 6&7 have a 200mm zoom but 90% of people never really use it. The VA is much better in lower light situations in restaurants bars etc. Where is your toiletry bag? I would also recommend a company called YNOT ( Chase Reeves ) recommended it and I love it. It's a Canadian company and the backpack folds up and great when you get to your destination for a smaller carry around bag. Its lightweight and great quality. Cheers from Canada.

    I understand not wanting to have to check your bag in to save time and avoid hassle, but its not safe to be carrying more than you're supposed to. They have you check bags in so they know how much weight the plane is carrying to avoid running out of fuel. If everyone cheated it and carried double what they are allowed to there is no telling what sort of trouble that could cause mid flight.

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  4 роки тому +1

      I carry less than most people do in their carry on...and that's my total. So Im definitely lowering the weight they'd normally have from the seat Im occupying it.

    • @nickmeeks3061
      @nickmeeks3061 4 роки тому

      I have often wondered the same thing. I wondered why they are Nazis about the 40lb checked bag rule, but don't care how much you weigh as a passenger. I've stood in line behind passengers that have weighed 200lbs more than than me and didnt get charged for their 40lb bag...but I did because mine was 48lbs. Also every passenger is alloted a personal item and some bring one, while others don't. I'm sure they use a general overall average based on how many people are aboard. There's also several other factors used when calculating the burn...so I've come to the conclusion that a few extra pounds in someone's bag (or on someone's belly) must not make that big of difference. The whole bag weight thing is simply to set a baseline to keep overall weight down, and make a few extra bucks if people go over it.
