PowerSlave, known as Exhumed in PAL territories and A.D. 1999: Pharaoh's Revival (西暦1999 ファラオの復活?) in Japan, is a first-person shooter developed by Lobotomy Software and published by Playmates Interactive Entertainment. It was released in the U.S, Japan, and Europe for the Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation, and DOS over the course of a year from late 1996 to late 1997. An unofficial port from the PS1 version was released by Samuel "Kaiser" Villarreal.
PowerSlave is set in an area around the ancient Egyptian city of Karnak in the late 20th century. The city has been seized by unknown forces, with a special crack team of hardened soldiers sent to the valley of Karnak, to uncover the source of this trouble. However, on the journey there, the player's helicopter is shot down and the player barely escapes. The player is sent in to the valley as the hero to save Karnak and the World. The player finds himself battling hordes of evil creatures known as the Kilmaat, including mummies, Anubis soldiers, scorpions and evil spirits. The player's course of action is directed by the spirit of King Ramses, whose mummy was exhumed from its tomb by these evil creatures to drain it of its power, and use it to control the world.
In the console versions, there are two endings, depending on the player's course of action during the game. In the first, good ending, the protagonist has collected eight pieces of a radio transmission device, so he can send a rescue signal and be extracted from the Valley. After reclaiming the mummy of Ramses, the Pharaoh thanks him for his effort, and promises the player that he will inheret Ramses' Earthly kingdom, and that the Gods will bless him with eternal life and make him ruler of the world. After escaping the collapsing tomb, the player is indeed rewarded as such, and becomes a powerful and benevolent Pharaoh of the entire planet. In the second, bad ending, the player has failed to collect all eight pieces of the radio transmitter, and is subsequently buried in the tomb of Ramses, only to be excavated centuries later by the now ruling forces of the Kilmaat.
In the PC version, there are two slightly different endings, again depending on the player's course of action, but only in the final stage. The final stage takes place aboard the Kilmaat mothership, where a nuclear weapon has been armed and is set to go off in 15 minutes, and has enough power to obliterate the planet. In the bad ending, which occurs if the player loses all of their lives or fails to disarm the bomb in time, Earth is destroyed in a massive nuclear blast. In the good ending, which occurs if the player makes it to the bomb on time, the Kilmaat retreat from the planet, but unfortunately for the main character, he's stuck on their ship and needs to find a way off. - Ігри
Check out my updated review for the Powerslave remaster:
ua-cam.com/video/EDKrc_OK5EY/v-deo.html
Some of my earliest memories are of my father cursing at this game.
That's a sign of a good childhood
Actually, mine too
You know its going to be a good day when you see "Gggmanlives has uploaded a new video" in your inbox.
And you know its a great day when he covers a non-steam game!
Salokin Sekwah >great day
>non steam
get out of here, hipster
***** lel m8.
Salokin Sekwah He's covered Resistance and that's non-steam.
Ghostly Gizzles
It's a console exclusive, though...
gggmanlives videos are actually really fucking well made i wonder what he does for his day job
joecoolbackinschool I shoot and edit videos.
Gggmanlives Shit! awesome, i doesn't surprise me in terms of production quality!
Thought about sharing a bit of your paid work?
Psst, let me guess, you made the Original matrix, no wonder the sequels sucked!
Salokin Sekwah
Lol I do real estate videos and other corporate type stuff, it's not all that interesting.
Gggmanlives Nah i think just having an idea how the Greatest Reviewer Of All gets around, LJ Hooker, Domain?
Form what i know, you'd add some sweet FPS scenes to it!
Salokin Sekwah
Yep. Ray White, Raine and Horne, etc.
Exhumed was one of the most underrated games of its time. Nothing could touch Doom of course but this was every bit as good as Duke Nukem 3D or Quake.
++
Nah Exhumed is better than Doom bruh
@@Someone_KhabibbeatsJonesEASILY iwl the more i play doom ig i see it less and less of a masterpiece. I bet this game is a ton of fun, if bullshit. And btw, Powerslave EX by Nightdive is gonna be released soon
@@SeanSMST Yeah, i can't wait but ima be pissed if they don't release it for console.
@@Someone_KhabibbeatsJonesEASILY dw, knowing nightdive they will. Early nightdive releases weren't as certain, like Blood FS, but even if it's only for Nintendo Switch I bet they will
Nice video & review, I agree with you on everything you pointed out on the Powerslave & Exhumed! Exhumed was truly one of the best FPS games on PSX in the late 1990s’ era. Of course, for example, Doom series and Duke Nukem were excellent and highly playable on PSX, too.
It is a shame that they do not make games as authentic and peculiar anymore as Exhumed. I loved the ancient Egypt theme as a kid when I got the game on PSX. It was nice to play and offered a true challenge. Sometimes I asked help for my dad for the items and their descriptions because my English wasn’t all that good as a kid and as a non-English speaker. At school, we had history of the ancient Egypt at the same time, so the game offered some complement and valid excuses to not to study at all…
The atmosphere, sound effects and the music track were stellar in Exhumed. The game was an original piece of FPS art, level design and genuineness and still is for me. Maybe there’s a little part of nostalgia, that’s for sure, too?
Secrets or those “creator dolls” where a pain in the ass to find after beating the main story of the game. Some old-school fanatics have found them all many times and I have checked out those videos in 2010s for a personal nostalgia trip.
I never found all of those easter eggs/collectibles as a kid - they were just all too well hidden. In 1990s, there wasn’t UA-cam or other sources for thorough playthrough and 100% completion guides. Ok, some gaming magazines offered cheat codes, but basically that was pretty much all of the help you could get back in those days.
Great review and I'm glad the EX version finally came out. I was looking forward to it.
Oh man... thanks for this review. I didn't know this exists! So aweseom! Loved that game on PC and PS1.
OMG!! I didnt know that such port exists!!! Thank you GG. And great review as always
The guy who did the EX version of this game also did the same thing for Doom 64, even adding in a version of Doom Builder for custom levels for it. He also did a bit of work on the Steam version of Strife (particularly the dynamic lighting, but he may've done more stuff). He's currently working on an EX version of Turok.
Man I'm always late to a party. All my childhood games on one channel, awesome. I have Exhumed on PS1 which I thought was great but recently picked up a sealed copy of the PC version at a car boot, at least now I know it's not worth cracking the seal open for! Great channel bud.
I played this back in the day on PS 1 as `Exumed` enjoyed it too, difficult it got as well
Same here. I don't remember it being so much frustrating as it was just grueling, though.
Sorry I've taken so long to come across your awesome video.
Time to play through this while listening to Iron Maiden \m/
🎶Tell me why I had to be a power slave... I don't want to die, I'm a god, why can't I live oooooon?!🎶
I'm surprised they never sued for this haha
@@seanevans335 Like they did the creators of Ion Fury.
To this day this is still my favourite FPS of all time. I'm passionate about egyptian mythology and playing this on the Saturn, back in the day, was a total blast. The combat is very easy and the challenge is indeed the platforming. Finding the secrets felt great and the very, very secret Team Dolls were incredibly challenge to find. I prefer the name Exhumed and our cover (europe) was really something. A total gem for the Saturn that no one gives enough credit. One of the best of its time.
Do you think you can do a review of bungies marathon series?
Thanks a lot for this video - didnt know this existed. I seriously wanted to go back playing some old school FPS.
Great stuff man! Thanks for reviewing this because I wouldn't have found out about it any other way. I played both the Saturn and PS1 versions back in the day and thoroughly enjoyed both. The Saturn one (the better of the two) is getting a little too rich for my blood these days though so acquiring another copy isn't something I'm looking to do. This PC port will do nicely!
just beat the game and rewatching the review. wow, thanks for reviewing it otherwise I would probably never got to play this game. huge thanks to the guy who made this awesome port, it is just awesome! man, the soundtrack, the gameplay, story and mechanics, this games is so awesome, very enjoyable. i'm having such a good mood after playing it right now
Just came across this review while contemplating purchasing a PS1 during the CV19 quarantine. This was one of my most prized games in the 90s when I was just a middle schooler, maybe 12 years old at the time, and I would love to just enjoy a nostalgia trip during this time. It's crazy to see that a decent condition disc of PowerSlave on Ebay is freggin 70+ dollars USD as of 04/2020, but I might actually still pull the trigger for the chance to relive those mid 90s vibes, so thank you for this review !
The sega saturn version of this was brilliant back in the day
omg! i had this on the ps1, forgot about it completely until i saw your video!!! great game, was about 10 when i played this, good video old chap
It's coming back!
Oh man, I want to play this! Played the saturn version back then.
Sweet I love source ports, cheers for the video.
I look forward to your review of the new version coming out by Nightdive.
This actually really made me want to play this game. I wish I had enough time to play my backlog haha, so I doubt I'll ever actually get to it, but I appreciate learning about this kind of stuff. It seems like the type of game that would have had a huge influence on the gaming industry overall.
Amazing work done by kaiser.
Lets hope Turok 1 and 2 gets done next.
I would pay loads for it if possible.
interesting, still hope to see cryostasis review
and maybe vivisector beast inside
This is the 1st FPS game I've played that I completed from start to finish with all unlocks on the Sega Saturn. Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Quake were out of my reach due to the PC limitation in my house held back in the 90s. Thank you for the video. I would love from the developer to create a modern sequels.
You might want to take a look at Action Doom 2: Urban brawl for a future mod corner video.
Had this game on the Sega Saturn back in the day....man...good times.
This game looks really awesome. I sometimes dream of owning a Sega Saturn one day, though I don't need it, but if I ever do, I'm gonna try to find this one for it
Just discovered this video after looking up old school FPS games. Would like to see this released on Steam.
Didn't know that there was a PC port of the PSX version. That's pretty fucking awesome. I'm definitely gonna play this.
I own the orginal pc and also the playstation version. Such a awesome game .
Glad to see this port for modern operating systems .
Can we get a review for Oddworld: Strangers Wrath HD?
This was the first time I actually got to play this game was through this version as well as Strife after knowing about them for years; also the first time I got to play Doom 64 without having to go to my neighbor's house to play it. I'm glad Kaiser does what he does, and I really hope he gets a chance to do Blood.
Do you have any plans to review Max Payne anytime in the future btw?
I had to rewatch this after reading that Nighdive Studios have been planning to remake this since 2015. Would be cool to see them remake a ps1 fps game Hybrid, a japanese doom clone with 4 playable characters each with their own pros and cons.
I really enjoyed Powerslave when I played it, and I always felt gipped that the console version never made it onto PC's. Glad to see I get the chance to play it again.
You can still find the files but I dont know how complete they are. Gonna play it this weekend, still want to see how it goes.
Hmmmm, what might u do in ur next vids maybe republic commando or republic commando or maybe even republic commando or something else?
Nikolay Efimov You forgot to mention republic commando
videolookertube Dang it, i knew i forgot something!
Nikolay Efimov yeah but you guys forgot to mention republic commando or republic commando
Shame on us how could we forget republic commando such an epic game.
videolookertube i know, i cry evry time
Hey GGGMANLIVES could you be able to do a review on the Portal games or maybe Amnesia the dark descent? P.S. your videos are very well made and I'm always eager to see what your next review will be about.
excellent review. .I'm old like 50..pinball and zork rule
we need the blood source port
FoxDie77777 Yes. Yes, we do.
FoxDie77777 Going to send an email to the man. I'll keep you all updated.
Necronomicon Ex-Mortis
Blood EX when
never
***** Oh :'(
FoxDie77777 Monolith founder Jace Hall planned had plans to make a remake of Blood, even he stated he has the original source code, however everything was cancelled due rights issues: GT Interactive, the original publisher of Blood and Blood 2, was purchased by Infrogames and the late company was purchased by Atari. However as far as I know Warner Bros, the owner of Monolith, currently has the rights of Blood.
The title of this game made me think of Ed Hunter, the Iron Maiden Rail shooter from 1999. Ever played it?
ambrosiaplatypus Nope, looks interesting though.
The download links have been taken down. Does anyone have a copy of the 1.01 patch?
The source code was released: github.com/svkaiser/PowerslaveEX
As for Powerslave EX, here is the last version: www.mediafire.com/download/z8pba9xnxzjjv2s/Powerslave+EX+v.1.0.0+%2B+patch+v.1.0.1.7z

Funny that, I'm playing through the saturn port atm damn its tough!
Found my old PS1 copy and memory card last week. Been playing it on my PS2..... Really good (but challenging) game.
Hey Gggman, would you review the Duke 3d mod "AMC TC" for the Mod Corner? You don't need Duke 3d to play it. It's one of the best mods I have ever played.
Jeff Cotten I've seen it, not yet tried it.
Please do, I recommended it, You give great reviews.
Gggmanlives Another vote for AMC. There's nothing else like it. A must-play if you're a fan of 90's shooters.
can you review doom 64 ex someday?
I played through it and absolutely loved this game, can't wait for the online multiplayer to be finished for it.
great review as always
Roman Second that. It's a great, more atmospheric version of Doom only missing certain enemies due to N64 cartridge limitations.
Kaiser is the man!
Roman Yeah I will definitely check it out.
Gggmanlives
I call it "BullShit Doom" spawning 7 pink demons the moment you get a weapon, they move pretty fast, in general the game relies on memory. The atmosphere however is far scarier than the original game.
devil4hunt Yeah there were so many spawning ambushes it was crazy
ERT WETW Well the same can be said for regular DOOM if you play on a higher difficulty. Most likely on "Ultra-Violence" or "NIGHTMARE."
Also, let's not forget that on nightmare mode, monsters respawn on that mode.
I didn't think much when downloading this but now with it being taken down I feel the need to finish it!
I actually played this back in the day on the PS1. I enjoyed it very much but I still remember the hard platforming.
I completed this game on the PS1. Took me ages. Some very relaxing levels and some crazy mad shit. Underwater, hopping from tower to tower, huge lava levels. The music though. So evocative. Exhumed (which was what it was called here in the UK) I think that was my first FPS game.
This game looks excellent great review
I know I played this but can't remember where when or system
How does saving work in this game & in comparison how did it work on the console?
kakhome1 It saves your progress each time you go back to the map screen I think.
I remember trying to hunt down all the hidden Team dolls back in the day. No so easy pre-home internet. I ended up ringing one of those overpriced tips hotlines to find out where the last doll was hidden.
Man, they can manage to make a high-resolution version of even Powerslave.
Still waiting for the Blood HD version. ._.
Was actually thinking about this game the other day, nice to see you make a video of it. Cheers!
I actually expected this to be an Iron Maiden-inspired game. lol \m/
Didn't know Kaiser was working on so many awesome ports. Hope you do a video on Doom 64 EX soon.
Is there any way to disable head bobbing?
Hi! Please somebody (Gggmanlives), i downloaded the game, but in menu screen is no mouse cursor, so i dont know where i clicking. In windowed mode i see the mouse, but in full screen is nothing. Please help if you can. Thanks.
Marquaker No idea m80, could be a bug that will be fixed in updated patches, if the project isn't dead.
I completed this 100% on the Saturn, including all the extremely well hidden and hard to get to secret collectables. Great game, brilliant atmosphere, still listen to the soundtrack. I agree with the review though, it was frequently taking-the-piss hard, but back then I persisted. I wouldn't now.
this was picked up by nightdive studios they are probably going to release it on steam and gog I hope.
You should get a 360 and do reviews on it's games. It has some really good exclusives and the price has dropped a good bit since the xbone came out.
The pharaoh is voiced by Don LaFontaine.
Also, are you considering doing Hellgate: London. I think that game has an FPS mode.
AzureSymbiote I have no plans to yet, dude.
Gggmanlives Hmmm...
AzureSymbiote its a fucking terrible game .. review done
Geoffrey de Brouwer Are you saying that because you were hyped for it and was disappointed?
nah at that time i didn't even go on the internet that much .. but the FPS mode was awful and the third person melee not much better ...incredibly linear vs my expectations and yes I remember a badass trailer for the game, and the game was nothing like that at all... weakass diablo clone .. great concept tho
this looks like it may have gone dark. All the beta links are crossed off. The source code is there, but I no programmer, does that need to be compiled to work?
I loves this this game, Ive complete EVERY version on all platforms including this port and I can do them all Blindfolded. Its an all time favorite. The atmosphpere, music, the weapon balance the sense of exploration, it was very unique in its day, multiple endings, Story yeah it had a good story as far as 90's fps go and add to that the unique abilities, I bought my PSX just to play this after spending a weekend at frineds house playing this until early hours then bought a saturn too few months later to play that version. Truly a hidden gem if your a fan of old skool fps and havent enjoyed this masterpeice ypur missing out.
this game is hard as SHEEEEIT! I have it for the Saturn and even though the controls are pretty intuitive im glad someone ported a version over to the pc.......its a shame it wasnt the Saturn version though!! Did you know the PS1 version was a port of the Saturn version? so essentially were getting a remake of a port of a game lol.
Gog just released this!
I sense a Metro review coming ;3
Knew that game about a mount ago and i loved it. Something made think that you have done this review, but coundn't find it. Now everything is solved. Thank you, man.
We might still have hope for a remake because the source code for Powerslave Ex has been released.
I remember this game on the PC, it was quite fun so I will most likely try this remaster even it's no longer developed (which is a bummer). It would be really good if u would try review some other HD remakes like the one for the Duke Nukem 3D, I think I played one called either JS or JK Duke, or jsHexen2 remake, or recently found Blood HD remake: m210.duke4.net/index.php/files/viewdownload/3-eduke32/38-blood-crossmatching
In powerslave ex I have this strange glitch where my mouse is stuck in the center of the screen, and whenever I move it, it centers back to the center, and I can’t seem to fix it. Someone please respond
0:38 this is the first time I've ever heard these words in that order
GmanLives: the link for the download is no longer available :(
Thanks. I was about to mention this.
He is on Romstation
www.romstation.fr/games/powerslave-ex-r44213
I played this once as a teen/preteen. Been trying to figure out what it was called ever since to play it again.
This game on Saturn pad is brutal!
“Tell me why I had to be a powerslave. I don’t want to die, I’m a God, why can’t I live on? When the life giver dies, all around is laid waste, and in my last hour, I’m a slave to the power of death. Slave to the power of death... Slave to the power of death....”
Hmm, I think I know where Serious Sam got its annoying jumping frogs from...
Is this game based on the Iron Maiden song?
I just now played this game on my PC. I am so ashamed that I never played this before in my childhood.
I LoVed this game!!!
Oddly, it wasn't called Powerslave in the UK, the home of Iron Maiden, who did an ancient Egypt themed album called, erm, Powerslave.
Aww wtf!!! I just learned of this remakes existence.
I can't run the game i download the file but don't know how to launch the game
I Hope he talks about Powerslave on BuildGDX (best way to play the PC Version
)
In a couple weeks powerslave is coming to the switch, from night dive. Is it going to be the EX version, or a new remaster?
Can you still become a mummy like in the original PC-version?
“The“Caretaker Nope.
Gggmanlives Oh man... that was so cool in the original...
y'know i think that if they'd used that snake shooting staff weapon in stargate then maybe they'd have gotten another ten seasons. that thing is badass.
Pretty interesting.
Shame that nobody had done this before. I mean this i would actually pay for on steam or GOG. Its a very nice port / remaster.
damn it wont let me post the download link.
Currently playing psx version of this on Epsxe. Using save states playing it as i would a gzdoom game. Glad you thought it was hard too gman. I found that This game is very like Hexen 2.
Really sad, map maker and this game could be so awesome when you see the jump, glide and others power stuff...so much potential !
Let's hope and wait...
I commented the link for the download for it bro.
I remember playing this as a kid on the Playstation, my parents saw the rating for it and were like wtf no. I'm lucky my parents are so understanding when it comes to things haha. Now the Alien games, they gave me bloody nightmares :P
Who play with buildgdx?
Please do
A fallout review.
What happened to Resistance 3?
Jaeger Newman Still coming.
Gggmanlives Love your videos.
