Headbangeeeerrrr live Legend 1997. It's not the year of the concert but the year the lead singer was born. This time you'll see more of the audience and perhaps would shed some light as to why a Babymetal concert is THE place to be. If snow white were to bring the 7 dwarfs to the concert, Grumpy would change his name to Bouncy Happy with no hesitation at all.
They are the Salted Caramel of Metal: on paper, it shouldn't work - but it just does!

You are right, it's studio audio over live footage, it's from their first arena concert back in 2013 and from the first time they performed this song, but they sound even better live as the band is heavier and the singer voice doesn't have all those effects and processing over it. At this concert Su (the singer) was 16 years old, and Yui and Moa (the backing vocals) were 14 years old, now they are 22 and 21 years old, and they have 3 albums released. They broke many records for asian bands here on the west and won many metal awards from the specialized media, and are supported by many big metal bands like Metalica, and Judas Priest, even opening concerts for them and others like Korn, Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers...
Gimme Chocolate is one of their "let's have some fun" songs, when they perform it the crowd get really hyped, but every song from them is different, their songs are very diverse, and if you liked this one and if you like some mix of genres and many different metal genres you might like a lot of their songs. Some songs are fun, others sound very cute, others are epic, others are more serious and so on.
They have this name because BABYMETAL created a new genre of metal, called kawaii metal (cute metal) so it's the idea of creating a new bor genre, they evolved the genre since its creation, always making it follow with their age and style and experimenting with it, the name is also a pun with the way heavymetal is writen in japanese.

I love this band, but TBH, this song is kinda goofy and doesn't showcase Su-Metal's voice well enough. I suggest Road of Resistance, The One, Ijime Dame Zettai, or Megitsune for a better idea of how good this act really is.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL galaxy. This was filmed in December 2013, the day after the lead singer's 16th birthday, (she is Su-metal). The other two girls (Yuimetal and Moametal) were 14. They started performing as BABYMETAL just 3 years earlier in 2010 and last month they celebrated their 10th anniversary.
In those 10 years they have grown to become the most successful Japanese band world wide (there are many bigger and better known bands in Japan, but outside of Japan those bands are virtually unknown).
Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons:
- to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal)
- because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun):
BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru)
heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)
Gimme Chocolate is a simple song for the most part, but they have many more songs that are more meaningful and most of them have a positive or uplifting message ... and all of them are different, they never get boring.
For you to see just how young they were when they started try the official video for their very first song 'Doki Doki Morning'. That is another fun song. If you would like something more meaningful try 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere in the UK 2014.

This is a tough first song to react to, and that’s coming from a massive Babymetal fan. It’s a song that doesn’t take itself too seriously and Yuimetal and Moametal’s vocals can be fairly off putting. This is more or less the only song in babymetal’s entire catalog that has vocals quite like that. If you’re looking for a more serious song to react to check out Megitsune, or Akatsuki from Budokan Black Night.
This a combo of Japanese Pop and Death Metal. It is something that just works, somehow. You should try "Road of Resistance" next, which is all the way live. Welcome to the Foxhole!

"Gimme chocolate" is more Thrash Metal than Death Metal though :)
Road of Resistance reminds me more of power metal, or even Progressive metal (Some of their songs reminds me of Dream Theater). But than again to each their own...

Hi Sabina you were very kind to reply to my comments to one of your Nightwish songs. I'm very pleased you liked this - I think many of your contemporary reactors also react to Gimme Chocolate first of all and are totally put off by them and neglect to cover them again. I'm 53 and the last concert I went to was Babymetal in London in February - such a wonderful night - so much energy! I've had a tough time recently ( my Uncle died of Covid a few months ago) and Babymetal and Nightwish have helped me so much I cannot begin to describe to you the sheer joy they bring to people. I have so many songs to suggest but will just mention a few - Su Metal's solo numbers are a very clear option to showcase their talents - 'Amore' - 'Akatsuki' - 'Rondo of Nightmare' - 'No Rain no Rainbow' - all live performances if possible. The publishers are very hot on copyright btw - so maybe frequent pauses might be the way to go. The songs above are old , so to get an idea of what they are like today, I would suggest 'Papaya' such a happy song which features a Thai rapper called F.Hero. Also 'Shanti Shanti Shanti' which has an Indian music flavour so they are very diverse - their songs deal with serious topics about things like bullying and encouraging people in general, to try to resist being your own worst enemy ('Karate') and they also wrote a song for us fans called 'The One' . I've talked for long enough - as always I'd love to hear more of your opinions on the above songs as Gimme Chocolate doesn't necessarily represent their talent like other songs do!

Here is a little bit of BABYMETAL info...In 2019, BABYMETAL became the first Asian artists to hit #1 on BILLBOARD's Top Rock Albums chart with their latest album, "Metal Galaxy" and last month it was announced that the album won the MTV Japan VMA 2020 award for BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. BABYMETAL has been making fans headbang for TEN years. Su, the lead singer, is currently 22 years old, while Yui and Moa, 21 years old.. Yes, they were very young when BABYMETAL was formed!
In this video, Su just turned 16, and this concert is actually to celebrate her birthday.
BABYMETAL have performed with, toured, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. This song isn't exactly a good showing of Su's (the lead singers) vocal range. In my opinion she's one of the strongest vocalists around today. Especially live. Try Megitsune or Headbanger live for a better understanding of just how good these girls are.
Also, if you get the chance check out another all female Japanese band called 'Band-Maid'. They are different but equally as good. Try their song 'Domination' live. These 2 bands are taking over the world and I love it :-)

Mikiko Mizuno is the choreographer, also know as Mikiko Metal and has other groups like "Perfume" that you might think of as the older sisters or aunts to Babymetal. Mikiko works at "Sakura Gakuin" that is a school based show where Babymetal was formed as a school project. They were supposed to graduate but management decided to keep them together to see how it went. ElevenPlay is another dance group that Mikiko runs that does amazing shows with. She also did the closing for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio .... Anyway .. just breaking up the comments a bit .. They are awesome in concert and the "Real Deal"

Gimme Chocolate is pretty much the gateway to get into BM. After you delve you will be amazed at the talent of this group.
I see the BABYMETAL fans have found you .. by now you know they are Japanese, that they are currently celebrating their 10th year, that you witnessed the birth of an entire music genre (kawaii metal or cute metal), and that their fans are quite, um, enthusiatic. Every BABYMETAL song is different, they pull from every style of heavy metal and from music outside of heavy metal. They have grown and matured alot since that song. If one song does not appeal try another. Su (aka Su-metal) is the taller one (about to turn 23) and is the main vocalist. The other two are Yui (Yuimetal) and Moa (Moametal) are about 18 months younger (and no not related but friends from an early age). They are scream and dance and do the backing vocals and dance. They do though have their own songs though. However Yui left in 2018 due to an undisclosed illness so they now have a 3rd spot filled on rotation by 3 girls (called Avengers).
But if nothing else most fans have the same opinion - they are best LIVE! There are a few good traditional MV (Karate and Megitsune) but in recent years they have tended to use concert footage.
If you want a good next song - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan. If you want to see just how good a singer Su is, then No Rain, No Rainbow from Legend S Baptism XX (her 20th birthday concert) and for something very recent either PA PA YA! or BxMxC.

On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Metal had decided to leave the band due to undisclosed poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017.
Gimme Chocolate went viral around Feb and Mar of 2014, with support of BabyMetal fans the organizer booked them for a smaller stage at Sonisphere 2014 (UK). Then online flame war ensued arguing if they are worthy to be there. The flame war grew so intense plus their sold out for The Forum, London concert tickets (7 July 2014), that the organizer bump BabyMetal to main stage by May. This is a stage where people throw bottle of piss towards bands they don't like. So when BabyMetal went on stage, they are definitely worried. After this performance, UK became their biggest market in Europe.

Great first reaction to Babymetal. For me this band was one of those things where I didn't know how much I needed it until I received it. I had almost stopped listening to metal altogether because I was getting tired of the anger and aggression that is so deeply woven into so much of it. Then Babymetal comes along and reminds everyone that metal is also fun and chaotic, and shows that the same visceral instrumental energy that other bands use to make you mad can also be used to put a smile on your face.
Once you've seen some live performances you will also get to hear their live supporting band, the "Kamiband", who are all world class session musicians. Really incredible guys, who all seem to love performing with Babymetal.
If Japanese people used middle names (which they don't, that I'm aware of), "energy" would be Babymetal's middle names. Oh, Sabina, you have dipped the first toe into the Japanese music scene. It's a deep dive if you decide to open yourself to it.

They're still going strong indeed ! This year is their 10th anniversary ! There was a lot of hype and build up for a big thing occuring this October but unfortunately COVID hit us in the meantime and plans have had to change a bit. But yeah, they're still growing and finding new fans and we're all anxious to see them touring again. They've toured every year since 2013 so this feels very empty right now :(. Saw them in Belgium last February (lucky !)
In fact, they were in Copenhagen on the 5th of February so they were very close by. Unlucky that you only find them now because they're something else live. You'll see that if you continue your journey.
They toured or collab'd with very big names : Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford from Judas Priest, Bring Me The Horizon, Korn, Slipknot, Metallica, Guns N Roses and many many more. They're the real deal ;).

Japanese does use a large amount of Chinese characters in their writing system, to be fair. It's at least 50% of most sentences. It can be hard to tell. Understandable mistake.
"Evil dolls" really had me laughing! I strongly recommend some of their live shows, like "Ijime, Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014."

Having seen Babymetal 20 times now I can tell you that they sound the same live as they do in the studio, apart from sometimes it's a biy heavier. But seeing them live is so much better, there is more power behind the songs.

Last year I heard them again, and afortunately I gave them a chance and I heard more songs.. and... pfff this was incredible. If you thing that this song it´s the biggest surprise, hehe nope.
This project is amazing and I hope that you can give them a chance, they are wonderfull.

Yes.. After I saw this video. I just had to see them. So far seen them twice. So ..on3 thing about babymetal they don't have 2 songs that sound the same. So you could actually love other songs a lot more. Or a lot less. Seriously every song is in its own world. One constant is Suzukas voice. Silky smooth vibrato ..if you hear other songs that show off her vocals. Kami band is always on point.

When it comes to mixing genres you have seen nothing yet. Look at their song Line, ua-cam.com/video/qVdBBOpSoN4/v-deo.html the joke is the producer said: "What genres do you want to mix?" and BABYMETAL answered: "Hai"
LOL I never saw the appeal of Baby Metal, but to each their own. They have one song I like called "No Rain No Rainbow" and the live version is actually really good. I have no idea what it's about, but it's one of those songs you can just feel the emotion.

@@ATrainHC Babymetal usually have two type of songs. The serious songs, and not so serious or fun songs You'll find more emotion in their more serious song. No rain no rainbow is one of Su-metal solo songs, her solo tends to be more serious. Try her other solo like Akatsuki @Budokan, Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Gods intro @Budokan, and Amore @Wembley Arena
