A zombie showing signs of intelligence is something out of a nightmare. I’ve always thought the best way to survive zombies was to outmaneuver and outsmart them, but if my brother gets turned and still remembers where I keep my spare key and where my hiding spots are I’m screwed
Alright lets give it to Brandon, he was a total bro, began to change, mentally fought for control long enough so he could get outside before he would have a chance of infecting his friend, that's a total bro right there
This movie has to be inspired by #ALIVE. Semi smart zombies, blocking the door with a fridge, a zombie climbing up to his apartment, a random dude that has his zombified wife chained to the bed and wants to feed her a healthy protagonist, trying to commit suicide and being stopped by a girl inside of an apartment opposing his, giving eachother supplies via a rope connecting the apartments.
and the part that truly makes 0 sense is that the heli clearly has black smoke coming out of it like it had a mechanical probem. at least if it were crashing with no smoke it could be seen that someone on board turned and caused the crash
I think Eva deserves a higher score just for accurately identifying the fridge against the door meant someone was inside with Aidan. She at least has common sense and deduction on her side. If Aidan listens to her and just acts as muscle, they might have a chance together.
Yeah I think Nerd undersells her. As far as we can tell she made none of Aidan's mistakes, and also I think managing to convince Aidan to give her supplies is a plus.
@@zhoufang996 Assuming she didn't need plot armor, the fact that she survived just as long as Aidan should give her a higher score than him by default.
points have to be earned, knowing a fridge against the door means someone is inside is base knowledge, something protag probably thought of and just didn't care cause they needed supplies, maybe she does deserve a higher score, but we didnt see her do enough with the screen time she was used in to really earn it. She was more used as motivation for Aiden far as I could see, she was the only reason he didn't kill himself, she was the only reason he left his apartment several times in dramatic fashion each time. She didn't get enough agency from the writers is what I think.
Massive respect for Brandon his neighbour/friend. Most people would hesitate to leave knowing the threat and also be in denial of being able to survive the turning.
Extremely late reply, but this happens in a lot of movies, some with the very same premise and plot than this one, but only in this one the infected dude went out, respect
If Brandon survived the first few days of apocalypse, he would be the type of man that would try to protect people and Adan would have been the side character.
And it would be cool to watch a proactive guy defeating zombie horde (at least in his building block). For some reason zombie movies are almost always survival horrors with not-so-good endings. Also, Army. They would defeat zombies eventually. Shaun of the Dead is a classic for a reason.
Just from the opening scene of the neighbor I was like dang this looks like an exact copy of #Alive. But turns out the movie script was sold to two different groups, one to make it in Korean and the other to make it in English. So the group who made Alone sued netflix for releasing an English dub of #Alive since it violated their claim to the english version of the story.
I saw #alive on netflix and thought the same thing, but I never would have thought about that there were two groups creating two versions. Thanks for the explanation.
It seems like more of an attempt to garner more money for the piece. They wouldn't have sued at all had Alone not done so terribly. That said... #alive is just a better adaptation. I dunno. I'm not sure how adding an English dub is actually infringement. I guess it would depend on the exact language of the agreement? I would be pretty surprised if this made it to court. If it wasn't thrown out I assume Netflix would have just settled as a nuisance. I mean it's not a new practice the idea of making something more accessible due to the language barrier for something you had permission to actually create? That's not an infringement. I wonder what the outcome was?
this man is actually much smarter and luckier than the normal main character in other zombie movies. He stores water, his neighbor had enough time to get out of his house before he was turned, and he actually knocked his zombie girlfriend out and block that vent up before she could destroy any important items, alert other zombies to get in or harm him.
4:51 With doors like these, there's actually a third option. The exposed auto-closing hinge at the top of the door can be bound together with a belt or some other object. Depending on the tether used, it can be a fairly powerful barricade that doesn't require you to move a heavy object. Plus, it can be used supplementary to any of the other barricade options you choose since it takes up no space.
I love the toddler level intelligence for zombies, imagine being able to time laying down and a hoard walks over you, or quick cornering stops a pursuit, but if you linger, make noise, they will strategise.
The ending to this is what always makes me think about world war z where brad made very solid bite resistance guards. Like you think about it zeds are guna for arms and legs first.
Common movie problem I see: Aren't vents... loud if you climb through them? I feel like someone shuffling along metal plates that get an echo effect for any period of time is gonna make tons of noise. For a situation like this I guess the zombies won't be able to discern where in the vents you are but still.
Loud, and not meant to be crawled through. The biggest movie magic is that the thin sheet of aluminum doesn't buckled beneath the weight of a full-grown adult

Okay so is this the US version of #ALIVE? The beginning with the neighbor coming in who is infected, and the smart zombies and the overall setting seem the same.
fun fact, this was written by the same guy but bought by 2 separate companies for a movie. Sadly the U.S. version isn't as good in my personal opinion.
This American version of #Alive does some things better than the Korean film, I like how the movie ends with the 2 still stuck in the complex, I like that the complex is smaller for tighter combat and easier access to each other, and I like that the Zombies in this one stay true to their korean counter part, and they didn't do the "They have limited vision and hearing" and instead just went with they can hear and see perfectly, making all the scenss where Aiden gets spotted or heard, make sense, instead of being Inconsistent.
@@DavidSternburgYtIt's not a remake. Two companies were sold the same script (which is itself based on a graphic novel of some sort, if I remember right). They independently made two movies based on the same source.
These zombies are far from the worst one's we have seen in movies. If laying down and playing dead works, then the zombies aren't that dangerous. I would love to have this version of zombies over the one's that have super human abilities.
@Squilliam Fancyson I've watched a lot of zombie movies, and these are some of the weakest one's. You don't need to be fit to play dead. These zombies would also easily be killed by just making one loud sound and attacking them at once with guns or explosives. Do you know the one thing that a lot of Americans have? Guns.
@Squilliam Fancyson I'm not saying that's someone's first thought, but plenty of desperate people will find out it works, and that could be an easy strategy to beat these zombies. I also pointed it out to show how dumb these zombies are, and wasn't just the only thing that makes these zombies beatable. Uninfected humans would be panicking initially, but these zombies will be figured out quick after they find out their simple weaknesses.
Honestly if nerd explains was in cast of one of these movies, he would be the first ever person to quickly get out of a deadly situation in less than 10 minutes..
C'mon man, let's be real. It's much different to make videos about what you would do, and what you'd actually do in that situation. If a zombie in front of you, he ain't giving you enough time to theorize possible ways to escape them. Just on the real, no hate to Nerd explains, love his videos
Not likely. If he were cast into one of these movies he would have to play the exact role they paid him for. I enjoy these videos especially compared to Cinema Summary which expects people to have some psychic ability to recognize they are in a death game. Or cheers on the idea of killing opponents without enough information to conclude you are in a death game. Most of these videos don't actually account for the real issues adrenaline causes in the decision-making process. Expecting people in an unreasonable situation to act reasonably is not reasonable.
Im only now realising after watching about 3 different videos from how to beat and now from nerd explains that zombie apocalypses are so nerve racking and i couldn't do it just listening to how to survive makes me anxious about what can go wrong ŏ̥̥̥̥םŏ̥̥̥̥ god its so scary
Just a thought but, at 9:45 in the video you say to put a knife through his zombified girlfriend's eye. That is not the better place for killing a zombie. Instead, you want to aim at the cerebellum in the back part of her head or right underneath the first or second vertebrae, right where the neck starts, this will disconnect the rest of her spine from her brain and making her unable to move.
@@krypton1142 You can wrap yourself in clothes. A thick 4 layer shirt will definitely stop anything that would even get near your skin. You could also use your oven to melt and forge makeshift armor with household metals like a spoon. I mean, why not just strap a ton of spoons and forks over you with duct tape making a makeshift chainmail and cloth up on the outside. The cloth will absorb bodily fluids and potential transfer while the spoons and forks will stop any deep biting.
This scenario would actually makes killing zombies more of a challenge. Knowing that there's still aa person in there watching everything happen but can't stop themselves could cause hesitation in the survivor and lead to their death.

Totally agree on that bit about him going down the balcony to throw the walkie talkie. Stupid decisions like these really takes me out of the movie. But for the other ones, I think Aiden did a pretty solid job given that he didn't have time to think things thoroughly due to the pressure and unpredictability of things happening.
I watched this movie after seeing this video and being excited about the prospect of "smart" zombies. After watching it, I didn't see smart zombies. I saw a DUMB DUMB protagonist who, despite every warning that a violent death was literally outside his door since Day 1, kept making SO MUCH NOISE and attracting attention. It almost seemed like he wanted everyone to hear him. Breaking mirrors, making vlogs, playing guitar, slamming laptops, dropping bottles, having the TV turned up, etc. There's plot armor and then there's whatever movie magic this movie's main character has. What did the zombies do that was smart? They just moved towards all the noise Aiden kept making.
If you, as a zombie, in this specific scenario retain memories but try to infect the uninfected, wouldn't everyone be infected at some point and things can go back to normal because they have no reason to attack anyone?
It's kind of the premise from the Marvel Zombies comics. Where the heroes still pertain their intelligence and are aware of their actions, but they just have the irresistible urge to feed. So the undead heroes form an alliance and start to ravage anything alive in that world and eventually the entire planet works as normal, but they're zombies or something like that, until they start figuring out how to head to other planets to feed on them as well.

@@stevenvaughn8431 Isnt that the reason they also had the Walking-Dead Series moving up north in the states? Because somewhere in southern US any zombie would turn into mush or a stiff mummy just by the weather alone...
Realistically yes, but in most fiction zombies tend to have thier biology altered somewhat so that they can survive things humans normally wouldn’t, like gunshots, stabs and ruptured organs - if it isn’t the brain, it isn’t dead, in most cases of fictional zombies. I can’t explain how these zombies might survive dehydration, but perhaps the blood they would consume from thier victims is stored internally like a cactus plant, so a few bites which gets blood into thier mouth might be enough “liquids” for a few days perhaps.
If you are a zombie movie you must have one of these: Hearing someone die over the phone, Being locked in a hotel with no visible way out, love interest, An nice person who welcomes you in and has tons of supplies only to to knock you out and try to feed you to an zombie of their loved one but only to get eaten themself

How the hell are the zombies suriviving for months in all these movies without water or food? Most of them should die in less than a week to thirst, especially in a hot zone like LA.
Yup. Zombies or not, every living being needs water to survive. Although, they could argue that zombies know thirst too and knows how to find water regardless if it's clean or not.
I don't speak for every version of zombies, but aren't they just moving corpses? They technically don't even need to eat or drink since their bodies are dead. The only reason why they devour living things is because of instinct. They do eventually decay if left alone for a long while.

Use the apartment phones to kite the hordes to the other side of the complex and get out of dodge while they try breaking down doors for ringing phones. Gotta love how this movie is pretty much a #alive clone, the scene with the guy who got bit by his roommate and the one with him banging himself is pretty much the same as the scene from that movie
It’s not really a clone, the script is made by the same people and was passed to 2 groups who decided to make an American and a Korean version. That’s why the American group sued Netflix when they released an English dub for Alive because the American version was supposed to be handled by the American group.
Gotta love how people like you will just assume everything you don’t like is a rip off/and/or illegal clone. The movies were made from the same script, it’s supposed to be like this. Is the movie good? Not necessarily, but you really need some critical thinking skills beyond “similar plot= rip off.” Like, acting so confident when you’re so blatantly misinformed just makes you look stupid.
One barricade I'd suggest for doorhandles(mostly office doors), is to take a chair and slide one of the back legs between the handle and the door. Then yank the chair by its backing away from the doorframe so that the back of the chair is laying over the wall, nobody will be able to pull the door open no matter how hard they try.
I was wondering how someone with that mindset would've survived ,especially since it sounds like the comment that someone that requires a Starbucks coffee to survive would say and probably the kind of person that avoids 'industrialized food"....but maybe she is just REALLY sarcastic and witty.
Alot of zombie movies in my opinion don't seem to realize that unless it's a virus that is effecting the victim after death, all you need to do in the apocalypse is survive till the main hordes die of hunger, zombies in movies at least rarely cannibalize themselves and primarily feed off of victims so once the sizable group of victims goes away that large group of infected people looking for fresh people to infect and eat is gone and thus begins the starvation phase, I actually think they covered this aspect in the sequel to 28 days later where the rage virus almost completely died out due to the zombies starving.
I was so sure I didn't see this movie, but something about it was so familiar. For anyone else who got that feeling, It's extremely similar to #alive. Like scene for scene. Apparently it was the same script sold to two different companies, one to make a korean version, one to make an american version. They're basically the same movie, just different countries.
basically the best way to survive here is literally be prepared. second thing is get a drone. have the most annoying one that has noise, attached a even louder noise object or siren to it and just have it float there and away from the complex when you feel you got a majority out. all you have to do is clear the rooms and your good for those locked in their rooms just open them up get to the next room and do the drone all over again. issue is for the zombies to come back which is why they need to figure out leaving is the best option.

Okay I thought I was crazy I'm happy to know that I wasn't XD
I saw #alive on netflix and thought the same thing, but I never would have thought about that there were two groups creating two versions. Thanks for the explanation.
I was thinking it was too similar
It seems like more of an attempt to garner more money for the piece. They wouldn't have sued at all had Alone not done so terribly. That said... #alive is just a better adaptation. I dunno. I'm not sure how adding an English dub is actually infringement. I guess it would depend on the exact language of the agreement? I would be pretty surprised if this made it to court. If it wasn't thrown out I assume Netflix would have just settled as a nuisance. I mean it's not a new practice the idea of making something more accessible due to the language barrier for something you had permission to actually create? That's not an infringement. With doors like these, there's actually a third option. The exposed auto-closing hinge at the top of the door can be bound together with a belt or some other object. Plus, it can be used supplementary to any of the other barricade options you choose since it takes up no space.

These types of zombies are the worst to be stuck with. There is no way I would be surviving a single day in a world like this.
why wouldn’t you?
I can't say they are zombies since the person is still alive and are called cannibals in the movies

My guy would be throwing people as meat shields or zombie scooby snacks then sprinting away into his heavily armoured well stocked up base 🤣

"How to beat alone" is a crazy thumbnail 😭😭
Use the apartment phones to kite the hordes to the other side of the complex and get out of dodge while they try breaking down doors for ringing phones. It's one of the weird things that confused me about the Korean original. They figured out the zombies were attracted to sound, used it at one point to save the girl and never thought to use it to lead the hordes away from their exact location when they finally planned an escape.
This movie is almost exactly like "Alive" that other zombie movie.
Yeah, it’s because a guy sold his script of the movie to two companies
@@tqco6877 ohhhhhh
What's the movie name
@@ItzzHYP3R #Alive
We need more smart zombies like these in films. Definitely raises tension.
They weren't even smart though!
@@l.k.9666 they are genius compared to the others
@@alkezar9542 compared to what zombies? Every Romero zombie film pretty much had zombies who had basic memories or used tools. Day of the dead bud was 1000 times smarter than these zombies who fell for possum. Who let this guy make it back into his apartment like 10+ times. Who had food right in front of it but gets distracted by a survivor a whole building away. These zombies were average af at best.
Technically I don't think they were dead, just very sick, and was slowly dying

5:50 Cell phone services will be the first to fail as the networks are overtaken by law enforcement and military agencies. It was impossible to make a phone call in the DC Metro within minutes of the 9/11 attack. Cell phones can really be useful as a "light-weight" library by downloading survival PDFs, maps, and plant identification guides before an emergency. They are also clocks, flashlights, calculators, calendars, cameras etc. It never hurts to buy a small solar powered battery bank either.
Wow! That’s the first time I’ve ever seen nerd explains give a star rating to the characters…I hope that continues…
Awesome advice. I want you on my team during the zombie apocalypse.
Better than having cinema summary 😭
9:30 she vented
🤣🤣😭😭
Has beed ejected. She was an imposter
Oh wow, the environment is very similar to one of my dream. The building and how they are so close to each other, also with the different colors.
But 🌟americanized🌟
@@dungww2006 Damn Netflix stay making bad decisions SMDH lol
This movie is actually the original the Korean version was just released first
Gotta love how people like you will just assume everything you don’t like is a rip off/and/or illegal clone.
"If virals from Dying Light trapped you inside your urban apartment building alone, what would you do?"
I love this comparison
Zombie movies never take into account that zombies would inevitably starve and rot, unless they were solar powered like a plant.
Aidan: I have a ton of bottled water!
Eva: that's bad for the environment
Me: Bitch are you serious right now?
For real. Zombies and that’s what she’s worried about?
You aree dying a virgin. She was joking with him lol
@@sabrinastratton1991 it is literally a joke to lighten the mood in universe.
I was wondering how someone with that mindset would've survived ,especially since it sounds like the comment that someone that requires a Starbucks coffee to survive would say and probably the kind of person that avoids 'industrialized food"....but maybe she is just REALLY sarcastic and witty.
@@ricardokojin7 Are you guy's serious? Did you watch the movie?
i love these videos
i feel like i could survive everything after watching these
wow, this might be the first ever zombie video you have done where the zombies are unbeaten.
6:11 you can download the entire Wikipedia onto a hard drive as long as u have a laptop and some power u have the whole internet at your disposal
I'm not sure if it's a remake because I think they came out around the same time, but they definitely have very similar scripts.
That thumbnail made me do a double take
I always loved the idea of zombies that are intelligent, just like how the virals in dying light will dodge back, feign attacks, and can easily get to high up locations using the same parkour as you, even telling you to stop and yielding just to get back up and attack. It's absolutely terrifying
Yeah honestly dying light is a terrifying masterpiece it's insane how the developers made another zombie that makes you completely forget about the viral (of course I'm talking abt the volatile)
@@abirmawi2808 I play on nightmare mode, so virals (even during the endgame) are still a major threat
@@sillylilstella oh yeah totally
I liked this movie alot of people were negative because it was somewhat slow, but thats what makes it good because you see the struggle and how isolation can mess with a person.
I adored this movie as well.
People are negative because its a complete rip off of another video
@@krypton1142 It's not a rip off and in fact I think this movie script was completed first, then the writer went on to work with someone else on what became #Alive, which was released before this one was the same year.
@@l.k.9666 no they were written at the same time it was meant to be American and Asian versions. This was inferior.
I love the concept of zombies with the intelligence of a 2 year old.
I'd really like to, for once, see a zombie apocalypse were the zombies actually slowly vanish due to starvation or dehydration.
