- Buddy Rich was always about the music first. This is what I learned the most from this master drummer musician. I saw the Buddy Rich Big Band perform this great arrangement of Big Swing Face many times. No way back then did I think I would have my own Ken Loomer Big Band and play this very same arrangement for the people in concert. What a great way to honor Buddy by playing his music which I love so much. To hear a Big Band live doing these arrangements played by great jazz musicans is why I did the work to make sure this wonderful music lives on. No better feeling as a drummer to drive a Big Band and support your fellow musicians. Like Buddy, I`m always looking to play new arrangements that are exciting and dynamic from todays excellent composers. But just as important to play some of the great charts that band leaders like Count Basie, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Louie Bellson,and Buddy Rich did. I have so many video`s of my Big Band doing it all with great charts from those bands, plus so many of todays great arrangers. Have you ever covered Time Will Tell or Birdland?
I never heard another Big Band do Time Will Tell which Joe Roccisano composed. If you can find the arrangement, I will play it. Yes I have played Birdland that Mike Abene arranged for Buddy. I agree with you that Big Swing Face is also a favorite of mine. The best part is that I get to play it with my Big Band and let the people hear this great arrangement by Bill Potts.

I just love playing this classic arrangement by Bill Potts of Big Swing Face. I have seen Buddy Rich play Little Train composed by Herbie Phillips live many times. But I have never seen another Big Band play this chart. I have never been able to find this arrangement for my Big Band to play it. If anyone has a copy of this very rare song that Buddy played, let me know. Thanks for your comment.
