I'm old enough to have played the original Dyna-sonics, beginning around 1968. Over the last couple of years, I bought both the brass 5 X 14 and the wood 5 X 14. Love 'em. Thanks to Rogers USA, Steve Maxwell and everybody involved. I use the new Dyno-matic pedal too. I played the original Swiv-o-matics forever, but playing one today would mean 50 year-old needle bearings. (!)
It is great to see you posting regularly again, nobody does equipment reviews better than you Mike! I have the 5" in the same color and I love that drum. It plays really well for low volume gigs, very articulate.
When I was in 7th grade (87-88) a kid in band class had a Dynasonic, I had an acrolite but I always played his because it sounded so sweet compared to mine.
I own the 6 1/2 and I love it. It's a great snare, as you note it's best at high tension. I like that because I can get a great snare sound at a 'low' volume.

Thank you for bringing the segment back!
More to come!

Thanks Lou! Great to hear from you. I have about 50 more drums to get through so buckle up. 😂
I have the 14x5 and as someone who only normally plays metal drums, this is the only wood drum i play. It just feels great to play
I LOVE IT.
Name this movie: "I've been swimming in raw sewage...I love it!"

Totally agree!
nice. I got the 8x14 brass. could you do a tuning video for these 2 snares. great video thanks
Will do!
Does the snare design eliminate a lot of the annoying snare buzz when hitting toms? I guess you basically answered that near the end. 😊
I also have a 14x6.5 Dynasonic (red onyx) and love it, but your 14x5 inch drum blew me away. Time to raid the piggy bank!
Yeah the 5” is my fave.
The snare is awesom... but you must work on the bass drum sound... its like your beater is hitting the mic... :-)
Internal muffler….
NO gel or tape required…😊
