Production quality is top notch but let’s be honest. How many people are interested in a camera on a line. I’m but I don’t know how many other people are.
HerreDePerre I mean peter McKinnon has millions and I’m sure if he made a video on a homemade cable cam he would get plenty of views, and people would love it.
I loved the running shot!! I’ve been watching Peter McKinnon and Matti Haapoja for a while now, but there filmmaking still kinda starts to become the same every video. I love that you guys keep trying new things, which makes every video just a true pleasure to watch!!
Oh you guys beat me to it.....great job nevertheless. Quick tip for you guys and this can serve you to stop the camera specially if you don't have a crew of 3 persons. 1- At the end of your rope or cable make a V neck to slow down the rig. 2- use electrical tape and wrap it around the cable near the end where you want the rig to stop. Make it in a way that is gradually growing so to speak, to make it take the shape of a funnel. Like I said if you are a one man team, this will help you not to brake your camera
Nice one we used our Climbing Gear to make a Cable Cam. A few years ago we made our own Ziplines so we thought how cool would it be to make a cable cam. The Photo at the beginning was our CableCam.
Superb video guys! Liked how you assembled your small wheeled carriage and experimented with different methods to get the right look. Some tips: Clothes line steel wire is coated with plastic and very strong, so the run will be quieter. Certainly, your custom-made cable would be longer than a clothesline, and more useful. I bet yours was pricey and heavier. The other tip is stopping the sliding rig. If you have ever been on a true zip line, there is a loose cable with an eyelet that slides just before the endpoint, about 10 to 15 feet before the final stop to slow people, or in your case, your rig zooming down the line. With a buddy controlling it, this would be a safer way to slow and stop your flying rig versus how you're doing it now (12:41). You could then hang it higher too! Hope this helps! Cheers! Frederic in Montréal.
It hurts me how you guys dont have 100k+ subs..yet..but dont worry its on its way coming soon Like i cant even describe how much i enjoyed watching this..your videos always rocking..the only videos i watch full without missing a single second❤
imagine that pointed towards the horizon with the cyclist riding in a misty forest and the bike throwing dust and dirt in the air filmed with a telephoto lens 🥵
You can make a break for it with a bored out piece of rubber tied to a rope, or something similar. When the trolley hits the rubber, you can use the rope to slow down the momentum at a much more gradual pace.
*You 3 crack me up!* I'll be honest...I think the Skydio 2 would give you those shots on the bike through the trail without a problem. Just watch those small branches..less setup time too. Still good stuff! Nailed the shot at 13:20 though!
Awesome video... Would love to see some kind of cinematic edit (music, colorgrading) at the end with the material you shot Keep up the great work though
You guys should add a motor to the rig. You could have an extra wheel on a spring to hold tension so the motor wheel can grip then and a stepper motor if you wanted slow, precise movement or a dc motor for fast, motion controlled shots. Love the videos!
Awesome idea! Other people have already said it, but I also want to chime in about figuring out a way to gradually slow the camera down so you don’t crash into a tree at the end if you are unable to stop it with your hand for some reason.
7:02 and that's exactly why I'm making this suggestion. Look at using Dyneema rope. Very low stretch and very strong for it's weight. A lot of winches are now coming with Dyneema and the marine industry is moving to Dyneema rope. Also no 7:02
maybe a reel of fishing line would be an upgrade to the current braking system? Possibly with a little motor to wind it back up if you want to get fancy. But just putting a safety line on the thing and running behind it would have worked too.
Hey Guys! Great video clip. As a professional photographer & videographer, and huge fan of DIY projects to save money, for myself, and those I teach, I really love seeing the ingenuity of others. These homemade projects can spark ideas and new projects in others. Great inspiration on your project. I do have one question though. That is: Have you considered using "rubberized" or soft coated pulleys rather than noisy metal ones? Liked & Subscribed. Thanks for the BOOST to inspire to me to design my own - with wireless motorization!
You guys are AWESOME! Love your enthusiasm for trying new things, and experimenting. Actually stumbled across your site, while watching another channel. Best to you guys in your future adventures. Yes I did hit the Subscribe button.
You need to use Dyneema rope once you go beyond 20 feet because the sag is very low with Dyneema (also known as Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylen).
You can really do so much with the Ronin S that people don't think of. This was pretty sweet although that camera crash scared me quite a bit! lol and I did an overhead set up with my ronin if anyone cares
Just a word about the physics... Please make a version 2.0 of this. The metal strip should be about 3 times as long which reduces sagging of the line and stabelizes the Camera in the moving direction. Then you should ad another pulli somewhere around the middle of the metal strip. The lone goes under-over-under. The makes the cam put tension on the line an the pullis which stops the rattling. Other than that... This is great am I am gonna build it this weekend!
This is sick! And as a way to stop it maybe find something springy that you can put at the end of the cable so when the gimbal hits it it quickly decreases the speed, without hitting the tree. If I find something I'll update this comment!
@@TMSProductions although that may sound like a good idea I feel like the pool noodle is too stiff and it will stop the gimbal way too fast and cause it to launch upwards and probably break something. I'm still searching!
@@TMSProductions I think I might have found a solution. It is called a ZLP spring brake. It says you should only use it on zip lines 100 ft or less but in your case you're not having people go down it you're having a 15 lb rig which should be perfect. Hopefully this Just gives you guys a starting place to look for the perfect solution. You basically put it over the cable and when the gimbal hits it it will coil up. www.ziplinestop.com/products/zlp-zip-line-trolley-spring-stop-brake
Wood blocks at the bottom of the cable will add drag.... aka brakes. Each block will drag slowing it down only so far, so fast, need more brakes... add another block on the line.
you should maybe do a video explaining why you chose to get something like the fuji x-t4 rather than something like the new canon r5 or r6, idk that would be pretty cool to see
I absolutely loved this video, its so cool you guys try things out. I had a question to you, or to others. When do you think Zipline footage makes sense in the age of drones? I think some of this could be accomplished with precision flying a drone. Are there positives for using the zipline? Maybe being able to use a traditional camera like you guys do is one really good side of things - you get great quality footage, another might be that a zipline is more tolerant of the camera going through obstacles like leaves or so on. Any other reasons why a zipline is good instead of a drone?
For photography only I think Xt-1 is better it cheaper and the sensor output color much better than bcuz it without aaa filter but if you use for print big or cilent xt2 with 24mp is better and also focuz much faster and smoother
the running shot looks like the famous forest slow mo shot in Sherlock Holmes 2, great one
Idk of anything from Sherlock Holmes 2 can be considered "famous" lol
Oh yaa Gavin from slow mo guys filmed all the slow mo in that movie :D

Another idea would be to fix an elastic cord on both the camera and the upper tree (like in bungee jumping)
4:50 This is why doing what you love doing is always fun. Imagine if this was some office work. Someone would have a heart attack.

the last one looks realy cool

Those who have a Dji in your house. Like here.🥰😜
DJI is a GOD
I only have osmo mobile 3 I'm saving up for the DJI Mavic 2 zoom unless in the near future they come out with a better Mavic

Yes and version 3.0 (the next level) would have to be a motorised one so you can actually control the speed it's moving at. That would be sick!
@@marktegrotenhuis I would love to see something like that!
I saw some other guys build their own DIY cable cam and they just threw a couple bath towels over the cable as a bumper brake to catch the slider.
Hot tip:
bolt something to the cable to stop the pulley running so that you neither need someone to catch it, nor do you crash into a tree
