'The Godfather Part III' may not be at the same level as the first two, but it's still a very good film (albeit hard to follow in places). Once it stops beating you over the head with the references and callbacks, it stands up on its own. This new version feels unnecessary tbh as it just moves a couple of scenes around and trims Sofia Coppola's scenes a tad.
This is not the version shown in the theaters. Do you remember Lucy Mancini from the first movie? Don Tomasso from the first two movies? They're in this one, too. Yes, you noticed the blasphemy in the very first few minutes of the film. This version fades out with Michael sitting in a chair. The version that was shown in the theater ends with Michael dropping dead out of the chair all alone just after he puts on his glasses. I always thought about the contrast between Vito and Michael. Vito started with nothing and ended up with a large family and many trusted associates. Michael started with everything and died with nothing, all alone. The original last scene, with him lying dead in the dust, was more profound. In a very real way Michael died when Mary got killed. Afterward he is the proverbial dead man walking.
Coda is a re-edited version of Godfather Part 3 with some slight tweaks the most notable being the last scene where we see an old Michael alone on a bench followed by the title card about Sicilians when in the original it shows him dying alone at Tommassino's villa.
This was the original title Coppola wanted, but Paramount vetoed it. They wanted The Godfather, Part III. Coppola explained that it really isn't a trilogy. This is a Coda to Parts I and II. But Paramount said that would be too hard to advertise, whereas Part III had built-in audience recognition.
The third film wasn't supposed to be a part 3 , it was just supposed to be a epilogue to Michaels life & ment to be a smaller story & be titled The Death Of Michael Corleone but the stupid studio wanted to title it Part 3 to make more money!!! This isn't meant to be a continuation of the first two films , its supposed to just be a personal story of Mike & thats it
yeah totally bogus how much hate this movie garnered lol I actually listened to all the negative opinions and didn't watch Part III for years - you guys are right on, it's great
Guys if you want to watch a mob flick with a load of Sopranos actors in it, react to the 'Gotti' movie from 1996. It's one of the most underrated mob movies ever. It has Pussy, Paulie, Phil Leotardo and Uncle Jr in it among others I'm not remembering.
Whats CODA? and why the thumbnail look like a thumbnail from an ACTUAL bootleg DVD? Lmao thats not even the original box art whats going on bruh. 💀 Great video as usual. 🎉
I like this film and don't care for the critics reviews that were negative, obviously it's not better than 1&2 but time didi pass and there was going to be a diference.
First time watching this movie I didn't like it, probably because the bar was set too high. Each rewatch I like the movie more. Now I want to try to find that made for TV series from the 90s with Danny Aiello based on a different Puzo novel.
Another great reaction, guys! The "Death" referred to in the title is metaphorical. It's the spiritual death of Michael Corleone; the death of his soul. In the theatrical cut, they showed his physical death, falling over out of his chair. But that isn't the story Coppola wanted to tell. So this is the director's cut that he originally wanted released, but Paramount wouldn't approve at the time. Underrated, unfairly maligned film. Not on par at all with Parts I and II, but a really good, solid movie on its own, Sophia's acting excepted. But I don't think Winona Ryder at the time would have been much better. She dropped out right before shooting started.
Def think you picked the right version, cuts a lot of fat. And I do not like the death of Michael in the original at ALL. Love you guys. Best reactors working rn.
Yo I never realised Tuco from The Good The Bad and The Ugly was in this. Have these guys reacted to that yet? If not someone gotta recommend it to them. The runtime is gonna piss them off lol. But yeah the Coda version improved this a lot. It's still a let down though. Pacino's performance as a more mellowed out older Michael is interesting, but lacks continuity with the Michael from the previous two films. They feel almost like different characters. And yeah Sofia Coppola's performance is not good. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if so much of the films emotional impact wasn't hinged around her. The film would have been so much more impactful if the audience could actually relate to Vincent's attraction to her, instead of just being grossed out and shaking their head at the fact they were cousins. Sofia Coppola got a ton of criticism for this role when the film released, with almost every movie critic ripping her to shreds and many blaming her performance for the lackluster quality of the film. Must have been pretty tough for an 18 year old to go through. It is interesting hearing Francis Coppola talk about how reality mirrored the film in this way. He always saw the production of the Godfather films as a family affair, and by casting his daughter he was putting even more emphasis on his own family just like Michael was trying to in the film. But when Sofia took so much criticism for the quality of the film, Francis felt that she had taken a bullet meant for him, just like what happened to Mary in the film. I imagine it was an emotionally difficult time for the whole family.
This is a good movie but it feels like it could have been much better. Apparently, it was supposed to originally be a movie about Michael and Tom because they had been kind of building that up in the background of the first two movies but there was a pay dispute between Tom's actor (Robert Duvall) and Paramount so they had him die in the time skip.
Ford coppola wanted to make a part 4. It would have been like part 2 with young Sonny & Vincent. However Mario puzo died & the studio wasn't asking for it

A little extra character development with Sonny.
People hated this movie because it was compared to two of the best of all time, but it’s not like it’s Universal Soldier 6, it’s just a good movie. Reason #2 was Sofia Coppola wasn’t a good actor and surrounded by great ones (was supposed to be Winona Ryder but she had to back out)
@@user-ww8fb6oy8p Because Sofia Coppola is the only person qualified to play Sofia Coppola. The whole point of Sofia Coppola playing Mary Corleone was to compare the Corleones to the Coppolas. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
Y’all gotta check out Raging Bull. Another DeNiro and Scorsese classic!
Won't lie had a crush on the daughter growing up 😅
It's hard to believe she's 52 now. She was the baby for baptism scene in the first movie
🔥
I always thought Michael leaned on Mary to continue the family legacy. I think it was unsaid that his son was gay.
Letssssss gooooooo
Instant 👍
Whats CODA? and why the thumbnail look like a thumbnail from an ACTUAL bootleg DVD? Lmao thats not even the original box art whats going on bruh. 💀
Great video as usual. 🎉
I like this film and don't care for the critics reviews that were negative, obviously it's not better than 1&2 but time didi pass and there was going to be a diference.
First time watching this movie I didn't like it, probably because the bar was set too high. Each rewatch I like the movie more. Now I want to try to find that made for TV series from the 90s with Danny Aiello based on a different Puzo novel.
think the cousin relationship is weird, even weirder that's Francis Ford Coppola's daughter.
you should watch Gomorrah,it s a tv series
Greatest tv drama ever produced imo
Underrated masterpiece. Not for everyone though, it ain't no GF Hollywood type, more like The Wire gritty vibes.
Sil did it better,
All due respect to Al.
FRR 11k itg!
You guys should watch the new Penguin show if you haven't got people asking you that already
I think Vincent looks more like young Vito than Michael.
46:53 that's because you didn't watch the original cut
This is a good movie but it feels like it could have been much better. Apparently, it was supposed to originally be a movie about Michael and Tom because they had been kind of building that up in the background of the first two movies but there was a pay dispute between Tom's actor (Robert Duvall) and Paramount so they had him die in the time skip.
Sophia is not a good actress. But the film wasn’t bad. However, parts I & II are superior.
📠
Ford coppola wanted to make a part 4. It would have been like part 2 with young Sonny & Vincent. However Mario puzo died & the studio wasn't asking for it
That's a lie. He never wanted to make any Godfather movies. Coppola says this in his Blue Ray commentary for Part 3.
@@erwinquiachon8054 dude it's in the commentary to godfather 3 the theatrical DVD version. I'm not sure about blue ray. Look it up, I stand by what I said and am not a liar. In fact Google it. He wanted Leonardo di caprio to play young Sonny
@@erwinquiachon8054 bro I challenge you just to type in Godfather 4 in Google and it says what I said as plain as day. But also get the theatrical DVD were you would hear it from Coppola's mouth. Have a good one
@@rxtsec1 Dude, he never says that he wanted to make any Godfather movies. He says that Puzo mentioned the idea of doing a Part 4, not that he actually wanted to make a Part 4. Coppola has been consistent that he never wanted to make any Godfather films. He only did those films for the money.
@@rxtsec1 Bro, you need to learn how to read. It never says that Coppola ever wanted to make Part 4. Coppola only says that Puzo mentioned that he had an idea for Part 4.
Time jump? LOL! You are aware this was made 16 YEARS after Godfather 2, right?
Nope 😂
Ughhh not the Coda version! The best part of this movie is the last 5 seconds and it’s removed from this version 😒
Yeah we found out after we watched it
Coda is the superior version. I'd trade those 5 seconds gladly even if I thought the original ending was better, which I don't
There is still more Godfather content out there for y’all to check out. There’s a deleted scene from 2 where Michael does get his revenge on his bodyguard who set that car bomb. There’s Special VHS Edition that shows the movie in chronological order starting with young Vito escaping Sicily. Also it has all the deleted scenes seamlessly embedded in the first 2 movies. A little extra character development with Sonny.
People hated this movie because it was compared to two of the best of all time, but it’s not like it’s Universal Soldier 6, it’s just a good movie. Reason #2 was Sofia Coppola wasn’t a good actor and surrounded by great ones (was supposed to be Winona Ryder but she had to back out)
Mary Corleone was based upon Sofia Coppola. You're saying that Sofia Coppola doesn't know how to play Sofia Coppola.
@@erwinquiachon8054no, I’m saying what I actually said. Why waste time putting words in another man’s mouth?
@@user-ww8fb6oy8p Because Sofia Coppola is the only person qualified to play Sofia Coppola. The whole point of Sofia Coppola playing Mary Corleone was to compare the Corleones to the Coppolas. Mary dies by the sins of the Corleones, but Sofia continues to thrive in real life by the virtues of the Coppolas. Part 3 was about how the Coppolas became the family that Vito always wanted the Corleones to be. You can't have that message if Winona Ryder is trying to play Sofia Coppola. Sofia Coppola was perfect for this. There was nothing wrong with Sofia Coppolas acting because she wasn't acting. She was being Sofia Coppola, as instructed by her father.
@@erwinquiachon8054 all those words just to cover up that you are misrepresenting things, you’re like the Donald Trump of move comments. Godfather isn’t about the Coppolas, Mary Corleone is not Sophia Coppola, Sophia Coppola doesn’t say anything good about her performance so you are contradicting her, her own dad cast Winona Ryder, so you’re saying her dad didn’t know who was supposed to play the part either.
Your crush isn’t reading this and she doesn’t know who you are. Stop talking in circles bro, she is not going to be impressed.
@@user-ww8fb6oy8p Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola are on record saying that Mary Corleone was based upon the conversations that they had as she was growing up, watching her Dad become famous. That's why Coppolas Dad, Carmine, is conducting the band. Coppola's Uncle, Anton, is conducting the opera that Coppola grew up on that is all about chivalry, which Michael Corleone lacks. The relationship between the cousins is based upon Coppolas Grandparents being cousins. Coppolas Grandfather married his Grandmother because her face was deformed and he knew that nobody would marry her. Coppolas Grandfather didn't want her to grow old alone, so he offered to marry here out of compassion, not lust, knowing the risk that their children might have birth defects. Their children were not only healthy, they were born hyper talented as we see today. Coppola never wanted to make any Godfather movies because of the racist stereotypes about Italian Americans in the mafia. Coppola only did those movies for the money. As a result, the Coppolas became very rich without ever actually joining the mafia. It's called allegory. Only the most elite artists know how to use allegory.
lot of people didn't like it because Michael wasn't Micheal in part 3 spending the whole movie trying to stay out of the gangster life stupid director
Weakest of the 3, but still good to me. Especially the ending. Michael being destroyed by Mary's death, basically his sins coming back, chef's kiss.
Sofia Coppola's acting was TRRRRRASH, though.
I think shes hot tbh. Lots of ppl hate, i don't mind a schnauzz on a cute girl
100% in total agreement with you. 👍

@@erwinquiachon8054 I think Winona Ryder was the first choice but her schedule was full. Sofia Coppola hasn’t done much acting since that movie. I wonder why? She can’t act. Her face is expressionless.
@@pampennyworth Paramount wanted Winona Ryder, Coppola didn't. Coppola offered to cast Ryder in a later film (Dracul) if she dropped out of Part 3 so he could cast Sofia. (25:00) Hard to believe that's the same baby that was being baptized at the end of "The Godfather", right?🙂
I can't stand this version of GODFATHER 3 ... especially the Title where it has a huge SPOILER in it not to mention the final scene is very different from the Theatrical version.
I ALWAYS suggest against Reactors watching this version.

Part 3 is God... Awful...
I have never seen this whole movie. It’s boring to me. Violence, but overkill.
A lot of people shit on GF3 but I think it's a great end to the trilogy.
