This is a very exciting addition. One of the real limitations on creating immersive scenarios was the sheer time required to develop comprehensive compositions on top of proper enemy placement to make a challenging and believable mission. Since this cuts down on the work required, it'll hopefully open up more creative options for editors. There's a lot the engine offers that most people probably didn't have the time for before, like creating custom dialog menus, conversations using .bikb files, FSMs, and all sorts of other things that couldn't practically be added because of the time required to get a simple mission going. Even the fact that they've added the ability to edit unit identities in the editor is a great addition - it means you can have recurrent NPCs that appear over the course of a series of missions - they won't suddenly look different the next time the mission's loaded up! Great work by BIS, the user-experience has been greatly enhanced.
+cmbunit01 Yeah, this editor seems so much user friendly which will in turn make missions better and encourage more people to make them. Now they just need to make the more detailed things more user friendly - basically all the "coding" aspects. But this is SUCH an improvement over what we had.
One small thing i found that was a small life saver is the ability to lock items on the map so you cannot inadvertently move them when working with over items. To do this you create a layer in the left hand menu. For Example call the Layer Fortifications and then using that place all of the fortifications for the area you are working on. When you are finished with that layer then select it in the menu and deselect the Allow Transformations box and this will make all the items in that layer "Unselectable" in the main Eden view. Thought i would share that for people who haven't played around with it that much. Cheers Jester for your Tutorial Videos and great ARMA 3 content. I continue to be am amazed at the flashpoint engine and that they focus on what is important first, other games just can not compare because they did what was important fist and this truly amazing stuff shown here which is simply polishing is making people realize this stone they ignored has anyways been a diamond.
You can change a unit or group awareness and stance by NOT clicking in the player but the coloured box that floats above unit or group. For groups you can change their formation and other stuff too.
Duuuude, this will be great... Should add alot of depth to those HVT missions you your guys do. Now you can incorporate tasks such as sweeping objectives for intelligence and actually have to asses at the detail inside buildings. VERY cool. Fantastic overview Drum.
About the Zeus thing with the objects stacking onto each other, good news. "Fixed: In Zeus, when multiple objects were dragged onto another object, it sometimes resulted in all objects being stacked on the same position".
Being able to save to a library of prefabrications would make a world of difference. Regardless, the editor looks fantastic; it's way beyond my expectations.
you can even stack buildings, in one of my missions i built a helicopter base and put and airport tower on top of an office building with the door to the tower at the hatch onto the roof of the office building. Great vid bro...hi from NZ. Peace

Totally new to Arma 3 and have done the bootcamp and practicing heli flying. Have no idea what next. What is the virtual arsenal script? when is it used and when are other scripts used? I did a little basic C++ a while back so know about variables.

Thank you for the tips, Jester! I also value detail, but find that I'm struggling with a specific issue - my mod requires a custom, raised walkway. Do you have any tricks for preventing a player/character from falling through objects? My issue was a direct result of trying to be clever. I used wall segments to create an extended walkway (like a catwalk), but it seems that the sides of walls cannot double as a floor surface. My player gets stuck in a sort of swimming animation as the model attempts to push him out of collision. Sadly, there aren't many objects that tile together for custom floor/walkway platforms. great vids by the way, I followed for a long time!
Very useful and helpful. Always wanted to make missions but the 2d system scared me off a bit. After watching I set up a nice little scenario thing with posted guards, and patrols etc. I was wondering if you could do a vid (or direct me to one you've already done) about setting objectives for game win cons. I have empty vehicles in different locations that I want to be destroying for the win con to trigger ( AA, aircraft etc). Many thanks =D

A newbie of Arma editing here. I've been viewing all your almost all your tutorials to figure out how to build missions but it's very confusing doing them in the 3D editor. Any chance you'll be doing them, sorry, all over again for the 3D editor. Seems like the menu items are completely different from the 2D version.
When you place ammo boxes you don't need to use init code to toggle arsenal, check the drop down fields in attributes for the box. (Should be equipment storage IIRC)
It was there before the update was officially launched, I'll have to take a look later. it's not open by default though and doubles as an interface to select what the contents of a container is.
Hey Jester! Something that I thought you might be able to answer. Say I wanted to place a weapon, but it was one unavailable in the items menu (one of massi's weapons or something like that), how would I go about doing that? Would you script something into an object's parameters?

Have you found a way to add mags next to the gun that you placed on the table? I'm doing what seems to be the logical way by adding more mags to the pistol in the item settings but the pistol just disappears. Thanks
Jester have u noticed after u place items on tables that they still "fall through" once you load up the mission I'm finding laptops and other things still fall through and don't actually stay after placed by Eden editor. Just my observation tonight
Every time when i try to place a notepad on a table the notebad falls to the ground. Radios stay there put the notepads or the pens dont. I see every time that round base of the object but it doesnt seem to stay on the table

no Zeus is a mission in itself youre altering the world and creating a mission in Zeus but in the editor its just like the normal editor you Savé the mission and it goes into the saved missions file and you cant load them on zeus
I know, what I ment was that if we could get the posibility to create missions together with friends over multiplayer, like you would have multiple zues players and then save it to play it like a regular mission later. Not a actuall zeus mission. (Eden editor online? Not sure how to explain)

It gets kind of irritating dying and starting the mission over again, I know the old Zeus game master let you hit preview and the AI started fighting and you could remote control anyone, but is there a way to do that with Eden?

matheusgc02 BF4 and other games No no. He tryed to find a special forces group but arma 3 has the special forces as removed content. The only special forces that are in the game are the divers and the drone pilots. He wanted someone that by default looked like special forces and he found recon. Also I think indeed Force Recon are special forces.
Hei i have a problem with setting END MISSION TRIGGER : when I tried to make mission to end with the trigger condition being BLUEFOR PRESENT with a countdown of 20s . The trigger fires automatic over 20s without BLUEFORE being in the trigger area. Please help. thanks
I got massive problems with AI wayoints in buildings since using the 3D editor. The AI sometimes don't want to go inside Towers and even crawl unter Military buildings. Do you have any Problems or is it an individual problem? I want the positions in buildings back... :/

You basically have to turn the physics or simulation off on the objects. Double click on the item. When your in the attributes...or whatever it's called...can't remember....of the object scroll down towards the bottom. You'll find a few check boxes that need to be unticked. Simulation is the one that you need, turn it off. I think you may have to do this to both the table and the item but probably just the table cause I think you turn sim off on a weapon you can't pick it up.

Try raising the altitude on the object so it sits on th etable.
