My son worked for this company last year and loved everything about it. BUT the company went through a large layoff early this year and many professionals at the company lost their jobs. Mainly because initial management was poor and they over hired. It still upsets him.
Yeah startups always do that unfortunately. Hopefully this turns into more than just some startup that had bad management and everybody forgot. Cuz that's what I think is gonna happen honestly.
@@flaminggorilla909 they hired a CFO and hence the layoffs. It was sudden and unexpected (by the employees anyway). And for what it’s worth, the owner was upset he had to do this to save the company and the employees were given a very reasonable severance package.
Sorry to hear hope he gets another opportunity
How many people does it take to press a button. Lmao
Im sure he was as for the company sounds like a case of to many chiefs and not enough Indians.
The houses are not cheaper. They’re selling for nearly $500k.
They are cheaper. Just not for the ones buying. :D
Cheaper means more profit
That's a shame because we already have high priced housing on the market, so these houses can only be bought by those who are above middle class 💔
Cheaper to build for them. Not for the ones who buy it 😂
500k without competition. What happens when this technology becomes distributed? 150k homes?
Note that he didn’t mention water damage. Concrete is notoriously bad at weathering floods and other forms of water damage.
Holds up great with sealant.
The type of concrete matters A LOT. Some concrete is stronger wet. It's called self-healing concrete.
Cause drywall holds up great?
It’s not actually concrete. It’s a mix.
I get all of this but why is the lowest 3D printed house start at $400,000? Maybe in the future it’ll be cheaper once they’re mass product but as of now you can’t find a 3D printed house under almost half of a million dollars.
Maybe using this as the outer shell for the homes as opposed to the internal walls would be even more cheaper and efficient. Still using dry wall for the inside incase people want to make modifications to the home. 3D printing the internal layout makes everything permanent. Still really awesome and this has a future and much better than stucco homes aesthetically and material wise imo. Would love to work for this company.
But why is it $400,000 ?
Companies want money. To the buyer, a house is a house to live in. To the seller, using the cheapest ways and still making a house means you can sell it for similar price.
Because concrete isn't cheap. Much less' complicated ways of pouring it.
New tech, few if any competitors
Cleaning in between those layer lines is going to be a pain.
I agree, They should back trowel it smooth or finish it a different way
Cleaning robot.
lol that isnt the finished wall they will have stucco or something like that to smooth out the wall.
@@Joeseph-t2e go look at the other video of it, they go into the fully furnished model home and you still see the horizontal lines on the inside of the home.
"The cement industry is one of the two largest producers of carbon dioxide (CO2), creating up to 5% of worldwide man-made emissions of this gas, of which 50% is from the chemical process and 40% from burning fuel." This excerpt is from the Wikipedia page "Environmental impact of concrete"
Unfortunately, Wikipedia is only as reliable as those who contribute to it, so what we read, should be taken with a grain of salt. Not that what you read isn't a concern. Perhaps this could spark an innovation that can reduce if not eliminate the carbon footprint of the concrete industry.
It's no secret that concrete has the largest negative impact on climate change than any other material. This is extremely well documented.
While 3d printing may become a viable solution, the current tech only exacerbates existing problems
Ya cement trucks pollute a lot but soon them won’t once every is electric
@@nicholasmorello6370 has little to do with the concrete trucks. It's the production and off gassing of cement within the concrete that is the issue.
@@danwelch1079good thing the 3d printers can run of other materials!
.... will this cost less than a normal built house?
This company is building homes in Georgetown TX. Currently priced around $400,000 or so.
@@lynnern57 Square footage?
According to commenters….400k is cheap. It’s not cheap at 400k idaf where you at
@@vansmoken4172right 400k in my home state is a mansion! That’s a LOT of money. We grew up in a large 3 bedroom house for all of us kids to have our own room and that house was only $130,000
@@jeanettehamilton7588 Depends how you look at it I guess...Hurricane or twister country its probably a good sound investment.
If the cost goes down to build a home so does the cost of labor. Maybe if the wages reflected the value there would be no shortage in Texas
Kudos to these guys for trying something new. Excited to see how well it works.
The technology really works well and has been around for many years, like the ICF (insulated concrete forms) method which is just as economical and better than using wood. Im also excited to see this tech come to africa where there poor really need this.
@@Chimpira777 I’m interested to see where it goes also. But if one of these homes is costing $400,000 or $500,000 here, can they afford to do that?
@@lynnern57building with concrete or wood is pretty identical in price now a days. In kost parts of europe it’s recommended to build with brick and concrete cause of all the insulation requirements that’re hard to achieve with wood.
Were the steel???? 😅😅😅😅😅🥶💀🫡🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻
Everything he says is so inspirational, it's exciting
0:32 Learn to be a robot (operator) instead of learning to be a carpenter…Sad world
3D printed homes are a terrific option so long as they keep the price low...You cant do a lot of renovation with a 3D printed home which is one of the down sides.
Edison came up with these google gary indiana concrete houses they cake in poured in form kits on one big pour and left with a complete house. Sears also with cinder blocks. Concrete makes terrible houses they sop up moisture and dont dry out long term.
"Instead of learning to be a carpenter, learn to be a robot operator."
Every man should know how to use his hands and be handy. We should never have an over reliance on technology.
MEN, DO NOT be sold by convenience. Yes, use the technology but know how to get dirty, know how to use your handiness. You never know when it will be required.
Beautiful I want one come to Colorado
Something exciting and brand new good luck we need more ideas like this in the future
Building codes and inspections cost more than a house materials and labor .. its a racket
Your wrong.
The climate changes 4 times a year we call them seasons.
I got sweaty on my bike ride today and saw flowers I don't recognize... it must be climate change.
Hottest year ever they keep saying yet it's been cooler in 80% of the populated world than it has been in 30 years.
Good & fast & cheap is the Holy Grail of the marketplace.
They arent cheap though only cheap to build cost an arm and a leg to buy.
If you build a 3-d home add 1ft to 18. Inches to rhe outside foot print. That way you could add interal stuff around the foot or so .i think it should work. Hey i m 64 and have cancer.
I'm sorry.
@@curiousworld7912 aww don't be. I've come to terms with it. It is what it is. Any way do see it? Only the outside walls get that 12- to 18 inches.after you add the inside frame and drywall the windows and doorways get franed. Then you add insulation or what ever order makes sense.
Brilliant.
I hope it works!
Sounds good ❤
Cement is not the answer for durability. If he said limestone and marble maybe...the leaning tower of pisa is 850 years old
Cement doesnt do well in an earthquake having said that the way those homes are built could change that equation.
Every time they want to replace a labor force they say there is shortage just like how they say there is a shortage of truck drivers so they can get the autonomous vehicles on the road
Good. Autonomous vehicles will always be safer than human drivers.
why not the make smooth surface in the inside so it woud not look like some starwars sandpeoples home
Exciting results so far, this 3D housing construction. But, consider:
-- There are not enough skilled workers.
-- Why are there few skilled workers?
-- More automation will increase output in this industry.
-- Who benefits from increased output?
-- New or related industry will emerge with the need for more employees.
-- Or will automation in related businesses require fewer humans?
-- Jobs lost via automation will equal jobs created.
-- Robots will be programned to self-correct.
-- Humans will work off-site using drones, robots, and remote intercept.
-- Robots will self-repair or repair each other via plug-in modules.
-- Robot black boxes will collect, analyze, improve.
No company or country exists in isolation.
Awesome those guys are so refreshing. 60 minutes needs to focus on subject matter like this and stay the HELL out of politics.
Im ready to work where do i go in texas to build these homes?
Austin
21st-century builders are going to have to accept that they can’t just hammer together boards anymore. houses built today aren’t going to last this century unless they are essentially: burn proof, windproof, flood, proof and energy efficient
If this is legit and the houses are good...this is AMAZING
They arent cheap.
Can they withstand lasers from space?

2:04 is the best part of the!
That's never going to happen - ever. Electric concrete truck with a battery running the hydrolics to turn a 40,000 pound drum of concrete. Com'mon man!
"Climate change" simply means the climate is changing, for whatever reasons.
Was there ever a time in the planet's history when climate wasn't changing?
In the beginning they bragged they were much cheaper option, and in the beginning they were but not for long as they were quick to join the greed league. Furthermore, I want no parts of having to maintain all those grooves from ceiling to floor of every single wall. No, Thank you. Hard Pass.
Yes. No Fear mongering to the right about climate change or mandates, or things being taken away. SHOW how new alternatives, save you money, are more efficient, 3.5x stronger, better, easier, quicker, then & ONLY then will we have a shot at changing how we do things. YEAH MAN
How smart this is...why hasn't anyone thought about it before???? Loved loved loved the small homes! We don't need gigantic fancy homes to live in!!!!
They have ......people have been printing buildings out of concrete with analog machines since the 1930's.
This is nothing new. Never took off back then......and hopefully the current version of the tech won't either.
I love science and technology! I can't wait for the future of real estate
i love the idea of 3d printed homes. i own a 3d printer, and i think it would be really neat if any of the businesses that do this sort of thing open sourced some of their STL files for their homes. so basically "you wouldn't download a house" lmao

Nope' concrete cracks, and crumbles. If not' reinforced by steel. No diferent, than those rock igloos that buried iranians a few months back. After earthquakes.
Correct. You need rerod, without it there is no linear strength. Building code here in Iowa requires # 5 rerod @ 12" OC horizontal and #4 rerod @ 24" vertical. I see no way to implement that here.
This is the worst of green washing. Better than TEXAS energy code. .... 😂 cause Texas is know for its progressive energy policy😂.
This is just really bad tech. Maybe 3D printed houses will become a viable solution for the housing market, but currently it only exacerbates current problems in the construction industry and the climate.
Without watching the video i can say not only will they withstand, but they'll prolly be even better than the cardboard houses you currently build over there.
Depends what the issue is...Concrete does not hold up well in an earthquake for example.
First off disconnected from the reality of people who are in a lower class is a disease because it hurts the body that being said 475000 custom homes only affects the poor man trying to get his business going you are displacing the rich from the poor that equipment costs about a million dollars you're pumping out almost half a million dollar homes the separation from reality with people with money blows my mind you're taking away people's ability to build block and you're making them an employee because we do not have the money to start our own
Climate change, hurricanes and harsh weather. It changes from year to year. It’s crazy, almost like it’s always done that but now it’s our fault. Totally our fault for the weather and not a ploy to make money by selling things as “green”
All the “clean energy” like solar and even electric cars are misleading. Solar waste is a huge issue and electric cars run off the power grid. Places that have an excess of electric cars have issues because the power grid can’t handle it
Let's live 3D printed lives!!
Very carbon neutral!
Was this a sarcastic comment? you need to look up how bad it is on the environment to produce cement genius.
@@limitedslip82 It was and is a very sarcastic comment.

God loves you and takes care of you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this great universe and has complete control over it. And the greatest loss that a person loses in this life is that he lives while he does not know God who created him, knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. The great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and then you have the choice to believe in it or not. I advise you on this now before you do not have time to do that.
