We were there that night of the premier. She got right back up and kept singing like the professional that she is. She had an amazing career. She and Bryn were amazing that night.👏👏
That is incredible you had the chance to see the opening!!! We saw a later performance and I still get goose bumps thinking about it! It was definitely one of the best opera and theatre performance I have ever experienced. Deborah Voight was incredible and the entire production was amazing. I am still so in awe of the combined artistry accomplished from this historical performance!
Ouch, poor Debbie - and poor Bryn! He looked like WTF just happened. But I saw them both in the theater at a subsequent performance and they were great. That includes Debbie who sang very well. I can't stand the negativity about her - she is a star who had 25 years of vocal glory. How many hundreds of singers fade away after a few years?
I know that this production was very unpopular but Bryn's entrance still gives me goosebumps, regarding the fall, well, sh*t happens. I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often, tbh
I saw Walkure at a subsequent performance (the matinee). The Machine behaved, Debbie didn't fall, and everyone sang brilliantly. I loved the machine -- I know it's fashionable to hate it -- but in the theater it was really thrilling.
It puzzles me to this day. Staging was superb. The best staging this the tetralogy ever had. The cast not so much, unfortunately. But we get what we get. It was a great piece of art as a whole.
The apparent unpopularity of this staging reveals more about the Met opera’s status in the US than anything else. I am sure that if ANY of the modern Bayreuth productions were staged here at the Met, whether it be clown Tannhäuser or rat Lohengrin, then it would reach national headlines and mocked in disgrace. This is all due to the pretty egregious influence of Zeffirelli; his traditional stagings have created quite the expectation for all opera, even German opera. Whether bad reactions to these “innovative” Bayreuth productions are deserved is neither here nor there, but I digress.
@@simonkawasaki4229 Let's be honest here. There's no theater in America. This art form and its very particular language of expression has not been experienced on this continent. So everything theatrical naturally comes as a shock to the local audiences.
I watch this and keep saying to myself thank god it didn’t happen on the higher part of the contraption and she didn’t face plant. She’s a true “steel magnolia” of the opera world.
The irony of that is, I've never seen a Ring production where Wotan and Brünnhilde wore horned helmets. WINGED helmets, yes. The horns are an urban myth.
And so waht! This is professuonal beavour, unless she woukd have had serous injuries! Happend to me also, some times, when i performed, belly dance! One my skirt and belt was not secure enough around my hips! Since I have been dancer WITHH high power, fast and wude kicks etc, the skirt with Belt down to the floor. I am in panties! And I continued dancing, puting with certain moves up the skirt and belt gain, dancing secured!!!!!! Some maybe thoufgt would have been a part of my show!!!!
@@terrencebreaux306 The person needs to look at the whole thing closely..even Bryan was looking down to make sure of his footing. Birgit Nilson complained at a production at the Met once...it was so terribly dark. Check the Youttube documentary of her life. She showed up at rehearsal once in a winged helmet with headlamp attached to stress her point!! Did you see how difficult it was for here to navigate BACKSTAGE..much less try on stage.

We were at the premier nights of all four operas. Expensive but worth it .
Deborah Voigt is very professional here. The show must go on, even if there is a mishap

Really? Why unpopular?

It's live performance folks. Stuff happens... They handled it rather well I think....
..... Good Acting; She made It, part of the Scene. 👍
I am amazed that nobody got killed or severely injured on that Stage set contraption 'thing-oma-jiggy'
One of the all time great Brunhildes. This is the New York Metropolitan Opera production that I saw on PBS.
I watch this and keep saying to myself thank god it didn’t happen on the higher part of the contraption and she didn’t face plant. She’s a true “steel magnolia” of the opera world.
I love the audience members wearing horned helmets. What is this, the Rocky Horror Show? 😂. Do they hold up lighters when Loge makes the fire 🔥 ?
I sold those when I worked there in the gift shop 😂

My favorite part is how the spotlight followed Deborah as she slid down the plank and onto the floor in a lump 😂
I love you Debbie!
I love the opening scene.
Dude made an EPIC entrance!
Her, not so much...
A 'Jack and Jill' Moment
Accidents can happen on the operatic stage.
I would pay SUCH MONEY for a filmed version of this entire production
It's all available on the met website
It’s available on all the well-known merchandise websites in DVD format.

Rest in peace, James Levine, and may God forgive your sins.
Very painful to watch!
A smashing entrance if there was ever one. -Zero appeal.
This was an omen that she had no business singing Brünnhilde.
What do you know.? She had every right to sing Brunnhilde. We were there that night. She was amazing.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!
Very Funny.
Hilarious!! All that money spent on production and she falls over!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaa!!!!!!!

rohan212121,you are a jackass to think that is funny. What if something like that happened to you or a loved one. F***ing ignorant moran.
