Good grief, I've NEVER seen any video of that many express boxcars/roadrailers on the end of the Chief! That's nearing the length of the Auto Train! WOW! Who knew just two years later the express business would all be over.
Yeah, that's back when pretty much all the express haulage was still going on- boxcars, Road Railers, you name it. I count at least 14 boxcars and at least 8 Road Railers, looking at the video in its uncompressed state, but it's hard to say exactly given the limited resolution of the camcorder and the angle from which the video was taken.
Railroad Days were indeed going on. That's also why they had that orange fencing up- to keep too many people from wandering over to the active tracks. The CB&Q unit there was a single E unit; I forget exactly which type and whether it had anything coupled to it. I grabbed some video of it closer-up, but that's still on the 8mm tape. I should dig that out sometime... if I can find it...
I never seen the SW Chief that long!!!! Well, i can go overboard on adding express boxcars or baggage cars or MHC cars and now I can add Roadrailers on the end!! (i doubt it if i add extra Roadrailers on the end) on my HO scale Amtrak Superliners
That was a very long one indeed, yeah. I do recall, once, in 1999 riding a Sunset Limited that had 10 or 11 of the FMC boxcars in various colors (silver with Phase IV stripes, silver with black lettering only, pine green with white lettering) which I thought was neat. Too bad I don't have that many of those express cars in HO scale. Yet. I do have some RoadRailers I need to finish building. Hmm.
Well, I had to get on the train, for it was carrying me to Kansas City that day. So I couldn't wait for it to leave the station to record the rest, as that would have put me in an awkward position. ;)
I was just going to KC, only several hours away, so coach. I've been busy so I haven't subscribed to anything yet, but I'll see what you've got and work from there.
I see that the Nebraska Zephyr is sitting there on the siding at the station. My guess would that Galesburg Railroad Days was starting or ending. Am I right?
I've been busy lately- I hate to say this but *mostly* I'm putting stuff up on UA-cam as a way to host videos for my LJ entries... I don't have the time to be a very active participant in UA-cam's community as well as all the others I'm involved in just now. u.u

Man I wish Amtrak would run those long Chiefs with the roadrailers and express cars again. Those were the days.
Thanks!
HOLY CRAP thats is the longest SW Cheif train i've ever seen!! 4 p42's and how many Xpress Boxcars?? Epic Catch!

At 1:47 you can see someone that didn't want to wait for the train to leave so he just scampered under the box car..... dangerous thing to do.
That is like an Amtrak train mixed with a Union Pacific
Yeah, I did. A nice ride, and dinner was excellent. :)
Cool. Hope you had a good ride. :)
I can't beleve that thing had 4 locos and all in phase 5 paint.

this was in 2002 when amtrak still hauled the mail
Yeah, that was a nice long consist. :)

Yeah, that was a bit unusual for the day, what with those colors still being new at the time.
Yup. I boarded the train after shooting that, and sat with a couple scoutmasters in the dining car.
