    I wouldn’t be a psychology geek if I didn’t point out that this is a prime example of confirmation bias in action! Still, hope you find it useful and let me know if you have any questions. 😉

    It depends. My family of 3 small adults doesn't need a lot of space. A small frunk & trunk & 4th seat is plenty of cargo space. We just need to make sure the back seats have ample adult leg & foot room.

      Yep, would recommend! If I’m doubt book a test drive and take them with you; no doubt they’ll love it too.
      I managed to do the full Christmas trip with presents and all without needing the roof box in the end and mainly using the boot/under boot and bonnet space. A bit of Tetris to get it all in but it went!

      We have two now and still never had to fit a roof rack. That being said I do sometimes crave the convenience of the Model Y’s hatchback boot.

      I’m currently deciding whether to move from the Y Performance to the 3 Performance. One child. The fun of the drive is so much greater with the 3, I’m trying to convince myself to make the jump and lose that hatch. It’s perhaps not the responsible choice but given your video I think I can make it work.

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 роки тому

      No problem Robin- glad you found it helpful. I think sometimes the big traditional family wagons can feel safe but the data doesn’t always back it up. The Model 3 both feels and is safe. 👍🏻

  • @jonsoderkvist
    @jonsoderkvist 3 роки тому +1

    I'm so unsure of the cargo volume. I currently drive a BMW 5 series wagon that is supposed to have a boot volume of 500 L so it should be about the same as the Teslas but when looking at both side by side it doesn't add up. The floor area in the boot looks about the same but in the BMW it's twice the height. Maybe the 500 L of the BMW is meassured below the cargo cover. I'm used to just fold the baby buggy and put it in but now after I began researching to get an electric car I've realized that I might need to start taking the wheels off to get it in :)

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 роки тому +1

      I know Jon. It’s really weird. The stats on this video is me working out the cubic volume based purely on the measurements that Tesla give for all the internal storage compartments (I knew my second grade maths would come in handy one day). But it doesn’t add up to what they say it is.
      I have just done a full Christmas trip to see family and managed to transport everything including two family’s sets of presents for us/kids without any additional storage needed. It took some packing but I was really impressed everything fit without needing to strap a child to the roof!

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 роки тому +1

      I think you’re right about the measurement taking place below the removable cargo cover in the BMW. That was the only way I could make sense of my old
      X3’s quoted storage.

    Amazing video! What is your opinion of the driving position vs the x3? Do you find your legs are outstretched or more like a seated position?

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  2 роки тому

      Thanks Gary!
      Both cars offer good customisation of the driving position. The higher driving position that you get in the X3 is balanced out by the massive field of view you get in the M3. You’re naturally sitting a little deeper in the M3 but then it’s a sportier saloon so that feels natural. There’s tons of leg room in the M3 (especially in the passenger side) and there’s good support so you’re rarely uncomfortable. I used to get numb bum a lot in the X3 on long motorway stints but haven’t had that once in the M3 despite the firmer suspension.
      There’s a little more on this (and more accurate cost comparisons) in my 6 month review:

    We have a toddler and infant (both in car seats, of course, along with a stroller). Would you pay an extra 20k to get a model y? I can’t get myself to do it and think we can make a model 3 work…

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  2 роки тому

      Hi Andrew. It’s a lot to go for the Model Y and have that hatchback option, and they’re not as efficient when it comes to total mileage on a full charge! My wife gets annoyed with the boot space/size sometimes but you’ll be able to make it work I promise - we even managed to do a full car full for a weekend away with a bike, stroller, beach stuff and a travel cot without needing a roof rack.
      Check my Norfolk road trip video for evidence:

      Thanks Frederik - glad the video was helpful! I actually drove a performance model for my test drive- those things are insane, it scared the pants off me!
      Getting decent range even in the UK winter- getting 338 miles on a full charge and averaging around 250 wh/mile too which is excellent by any EV standards.

    How does car handle Hill starts?

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 роки тому +1

      Long answer: you can set the car to creep, roll or hold when the accelerator isn’t active. Hold mode is probably the most helpful in most situations and akin to having an automatic handbrake on a traditional car. When you reach a hill, you hold down the brake for a second or two, and the car will hold itself there until you press the accelerator. If you’re used to handling hills with clutch control/balancing, you’ll never want to go back.
      Short answer - it’s a piece of cake. 😊

    • @johnanon8759
      @johnanon8759 3 роки тому

      @@ThatMarkGilroy wow, that sounds super easy. I've only ever driven manual cars all my life and couldn't grasp concept of vehicles that don't have a clutch and biting point. So what you're saying there is absolutely no roll back with m3? Thanks for info.

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 роки тому +1

      @@johnanon8759 That’s exactly it. In hold mode, the car will hold itself (!) at a complete standstill on a hill until you’re ready to move off. Then, you just hit the accelerator and you’ll be off like a shot up the hill, no fussing with gears or clutch control.
