  • Today we visit with Corey Gil-Shuster from The Ask Project, a nonprofit that creates authentic man-on-the-street videos to increase understanding about the realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In our unscripted conversation, we discuss the following topics:
    Second Intifada (13:00)
    Herd Psychology & Tribalism (17:00)
    The Role of Media (25:42)
    Man on the Street (31:54)
    Visiting the Settlements (35:50)
    Religious Divides (42:35)
    LGBTQ+, BLM & BDS (46:08)
    Orthodox & Nonorthodox (57:13)
    Unorthodox & Propaganda (106:29)
    Biggest Paradigm Shift (1:14:38)
Religious and Secular Israeli paradigms (1:20:33)
Corey is a Canadian-Israeli citizen living in Israel, and has a fascinating story about how during the second intifada he grabbed a camcorder and a translator and hit the streets to get real perspectives first hand from real people on both sides of the conflict
Corey and I have never met, and likely never would have met if not for youtube. We come from different countries and in the course of conversation we found out that we identify with somewhat different communities, even though we’re both Jewish.
Our conversation starts off with the back story of The ASK project and from there we walk right up until the edge of many of the most controversial topics of our time which polarize our societies today. This is the raw conversation between two people trying to reconcile the herd psychology, propaganda and community sensitivities and how they impact our perspectives and behavior.
Thanks for listening in….As with all good conversations, we’re just scratching the surface here and I hope you find this discussion both insightful and fun. As always, we’d love to hear your feedback in the comments….enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback...yeah, this was more of a discussion Joe Rogan style. Here's an example interview: ua-cam.com/video/2dFE3WHUcFA/v-deo.html

It's great to see Corey but the interviewer was really annoying. Always interrupting and inflexible in his opinion

I’m not Palestinian but Muslim first then arab by ethnicity, I believe the whole land is occupied and I believe most of Muslims believe the same with few minority who believe in 2SS, I don’t believe in kicking out jewish ppl not throwing them wherever but one state is the way for me.

Thanks so much for sharing your perspective. I think there is support for a one state from groups within both peoples but the challenge remains in the fact that trust between peoples has been damaged, perhaps beyond repair. I'm curious, do you think a one state option can succeed if terrorist extremists oppose it? How would you advise Israeli's to deal with the bus bombings, stabbing men/women elderly and children, pay to slay, etc.

@@TribeJournal I don’t think Hamas would accept this as reality unless the name is Palestine and zionists almost have no militant power, and btw i support this 1ss because of religious views and I believe if we weren’t ruled by dictatorships from the last century-current the whole conflict wouldn’t take such long time to solve. Finally regarding the killings of innocent and specifically suicide bombers which is prohibited to kill yourself in Islam by all means but they still do i can’t give better advice for these ppl than they should follow their religion first but for israelis i don’t blame them for the mistrust and fear but at the same time they should acknowledge the consequences of occupation etc...

@@antiquesmore7083 Interesting point. According to that idea where Israel would be required to change its name to Palestine and zionists (I'm assuming you mean all Jews) would have almost no military power within that country...explain please...how would such a democratic society justify taking away military power from members of the population purely based on their race, ideology or shared heritage? In current State of Israel, Palestinians are part of the government as elected officials and as soldiers. Would this solution which your describing, a system where Hamas would take power, need to outlaw Jewish participation? If so, how would you explain that to the Jewish Israelis (who in the past 70 years built a thriving country against all odds and countless lives lost) that Hamas as terrorists who want all Jews to die should be in charge at the exclusion of the Jews?
