Is this the one where they clicked their heels together three times and said "There's no place like home"? Seriously though, it reminds me of the marines at The Frozen Chosin"....
I read the Anabasis as a teenager, and was completely engrossed. After the ten thousand's long and exhausting journey of privation and constant danger, the relief I felt when they finally reached the sea was joyous. Then I read Thucydides, and I began to understand that the Anabasis and the The Peloponnesian War are part of a Canon of ancient works that form the basis of the 'West's' civilisation. I have been waiting for this Landmark edition, which is now the Christmas present to my self. Peace and Joy to you and those you love Michael.
Gosh, the more I learn about Greek classics, the more I want to read them. I've never heard of this book, but it sounds amazing! It's especially interesting to relate it to Herodotus's writing, because he discusses the origins of Cyrus too.
Guys, Anabsis should be made a film by Hollywood stars and the whole industry there. I would love to see some best actors playing in this epic movie. I really cannot believe that it has not been filmed yet.
Any plans for a read-a-long for all of the histories you just mentioned? I would really be interested. Thanks so much for this one today, mine is ordered just not arrived as yet.
Thanks! I really appreciate you watching. Also, my mother was telling me the other day how great she thinks your channel is. I’m a bit jealous, to be honest.
Thanks for a super video! I have a great love of ancient history, and especially warfare in the Greek and Roman world! I also deeply love the art, especially Roman mosaics and ancient Chinese ritual bronzes! I must get a copy of Xenophons Anabasis!
Oh dear, it's gonna be an expensive Christmas 😣 Sounds like a great adventure actually and it read in a very contemporary style, not that flowery Illiad style prose.
I enjoyed your video. If I may make a suggestion , please invest in a professional microphone set up. It would catapult your level of presentation. Many UA-camr’s are also now posting up a written transcript of their commentary for the hearing impaired, which is a huge help. Thanks.

That landmark Edition is fantastic. Sounds like an interesting tale
It’s really interesting stuff! I love these Landmark editions.

This actually refers to a different Cyrus, not Cyrus the Great. This story takes place well after the Persian War. But yeah, it’s a great book.

It would make a great film.
Not exactly Anabasis, but you should check out the film “The Warriors”, i heard it was influenced by Anabasis
Recently watched the movie "the warriors" and found that was loosely based on this story. What a timing to find a vid of yours on this book!
That’s right! I forgot that The Warriors was inspired by this book.
Great review. Never read this, and I’m definitely adding it to my list. As always, appreciate the edition advice!
You are so welcome! I keep meaning to ask if you ever read Saga? Did I miss a video?
@@michaelk.vaughan8617 *guilty look*. I'm working on it :)

I have something along those lines in the fire.
I really want that landmark edition but I think I’ll wait for paperback to match all my others. Great video.

You must! It really sounds like you will appreciate it!
I hope to get to this one next year!
You will like this one quite a bit, I think. It might inspire you to add more deadly blades to the armory.

No, Xenophon was no nonsense prose. No flowery poetry for him!
