  • I'll go through and cover how to setup your GCX switcher and ground control. I will also show how to do channel switching in tandem with an amp such as a mesa boogie Dual rectifier.

Thanks dude. I am working hard on staying analog. I came across this set up with my dual Rec/Orange stacks. It’s been so confusing and videos that don’t help. Yours helped me a lot dude. I respect the fuck out of a fellow guitar player using real amps and cabs.

Israel. Thanks for the vid brother. So I have a similar set up with the exception of the amp. About 7 years ago, I switched primarily to a Axe FX 2, but JUST pulled out my old Mesa Mark V 90W rig. That is really the only difference in our set ups, the rig. My issue is that I cannot get the GCP to control the amp channels correctly. It’s weird. On the rear of my amp (Mark V), for my external channel switching, I have 4 inputs where you have 5. I have a “channel 2 input”, a “channel 3 input”, a “solo” input, and an “EQ” input. It appears that the clean channel and the middle channel are both set up through the channel 2 input, because when I press the instant access #6 on my GCP, it will switch between channel 1 & 2. That’s cool, as I read somewhere that channel 1 was an auto (default). My issue is switching to channel 3. I have everything set up like you do, but for some reason, when I press the IA 7 on the GCP, which goes “out” to my #3 channel on the back of the amp, it just will not switch it. I have my knobs on the back of the amp in the FS position, just as you do, but nothing seems to work. Any advise you could provide would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

How do you program it the ground control?

Looking to use this setup with my precision drive, phaser and flux echo, and then also the 3 channels on my dual rec. I wanna be able to make presets where I can go from red channel and drive to a clean with my flux echo with only one step.

Brad Hargis dude you absolutely can do that! Let me know if you need a separate video on how to do the signal chain for that

I just bought a g major 2 rackmount... My question is this: Can i use just the floorboard to be able to switch amp channels on my triple rec and assign fx through the g major to said channels (in amp fx loop) or do i need the audio switcher for that as well? Im not running any other pedals in my rig except for wah and tubescreamer in front of amp. Im thinking of getting a voodoo ground control, but I dont want to have to buy the rackmount audio switcher if I dont have to

so to answer your question simply, YES
you don't have to buy the audio switcher. i don't own a gmajor and haven't really dabbled in how to work the gmajor in alongside amp channel switching so i wouldn't be able to tell you specifics, i've seen it done though. all you need is, your amp, gmajor and the ground control.
Check here on youtube and look for thrash metal studio's channel. he has a very clear rig with exactly that, a ground control, gmajor and a rectifier.

i almost forgot, to help you do this. do a quick search on how you'll use the midi function on the GCX which will allow you to do this.
Voodoo labs has a PDF manual for that very information online.

Thank you so much for this information. I have a question though: How did you add the Wah to this? I can't find any information about this whatsoever. Is the Wah going straight into the (main/first/guitar) INPUT of the GCX? Therefore, the OUT of the GCX would have to go straight into the INPUT of the amp and that's it… is that right? 🤔 Thank you so much in advance!

So the wah would go in the signal flow as follows
      Guitar-wah-GCX looper input
Yeah, the looper acts as an on/off switch for each loop you have. The output will eventually go into your amp.
Depending on the amp/pedals you have, you can be creative with this.
I’d recommend looking at the PDF for this type of looper as it is IMMENSELY user friendly to read and make use of regarding the looper
But simply put for the wah,
      Guitar/wah/GCX/amp
The wah will be in-front of the chain

@@israelrosario3922 Thank you sooo much! I just bought a second HEX but there's a few pedals that I wouldn't want in the GCP; instead I would like them infront of the chain (such as whammy, wah, tuner, etc.). just like you said. Now I know for sure how it goes! THANK YOU!
Here's another question if you'd be so kind: I take it the GCX acts exactly like the HEX, right? So, having the GCP configured in the 4-presets mode, when adding (stacking) two (or more) effects, how do I tell the GCP what effect goes into the other? In other words, on the GCP, how do I specify the order of the chain? Or is it entirely based on the number-labeled loop of the looper (GCX or HEX)? For example: the loop number 5 (of the GCX or HEX) will always go AFTER pedals that are in loops numbered 4, 1, 3, and 2 no matter what; and let's say, the loop number 2 will always go BEFORE the loop number 4 no matter what? Is that correct? 🤔

@@karimgurrola6472 honestly it really doesn’t matter where In the GCX loop chain you put the pedals. Because regardless. The GCX will have that signal to those pedals either turned off/on depending on your configuration.
The only thing I would suggest as far as signal chain if I was STILL using this set up (I’m currently using a kemper)
Is to set your time based FX pedals going out to your amps FX loop, separated from your dynamic pedals. It’s a suggestion tho, not something you definitely have to do, either way, you’ll get a good sound, tho I personally would go with this just because the time based FX would be cleaner coming through your amp/sound due to not being bogged in the same signal chain as your dynamic pedals, distortion and what not.
I’d experiment for a day and try out which looping configuration works best in your situation, though I can definitely say for what you want to do, you don’t need to have any one pedals in a specific order as long as you set those loops accordingly with your GCP and GCX looper

@@israelrosario3922 Oh, thank you so much! I'm familiar with the 4CM; I get it! But I was thinking more like a situation where you make a preset for let's say an overdrive (loop 4 of the GCX) and a delay (loop 2 of the GCX), but since you're not telling the GCP in which order exactly should it run them (by this point I'm realizing that I'm giving for granted that GCP runs things in series BTW, and of course I could be completly wrong, and it turns out that this thing runs them in parallel LOL, so nothing I'm saying would matter XD), do you know if the GCP would put the delay before the overdrive? Or should I invert them in the GCX (OD in loop 2, and Delay in loop 4) so the GCP would automatically runs them in that order (OD>Delay)?

    • @israelrosario3922
      @israelrosario3922  10 місяців тому +1

@@karimgurrola6472 I would absolutely suggest having OD>delay as the signal chain. That way if anything, you know that the delay trails or what have you regarding time based effects aren’t getting distorted, you’ll get a cleaner sound with that direction
      Like you said
OD LOOP 2 and delay in loop 4
