Calvinism wrecked my world, I am not the same person I was, I don't witness and have the love for the lost like I use to, I constantly agonize over if I am of the elect, I can't pray because I don't know if I am one God loves and I can't read the bible without anxiety, fear and condemnation. I’m sorry you’re going through all of that, I really feel for you and know what mental anguish like that can be like. Yes, get back to the Word and listen to the Holy Spirit. Just keep going with God. This stuff is so evil because it pushes you AWAY from God rather than to Him. They talk about grace and what God does for us and how he has to change your heart but they continually neglect faith. Why? Because grace, because what God does for us comes through faith! Calvinism is embarrassingly easy to refute from Genesis to Revelation beginning with their foundation: 1) their definition of sovereign and 2) Miticulous Determinism. When these 2 are refuted by God's breathed words, the other 7 points, which includes Tulips 5 Points, are also refuted, have no place to root.

One thing calvinists often say against the "if calvinism is true why even bother preaching the gospel? People are uncapable of even believing unless God Miraculously changes them. So why bother?", is that preaching the gospel is the way and means God uses to reach his elect and because he says so.... i wonder, if we are uncapable of even believing, why would God choose a means to reach HIS ELECT, that implies that they indeed are capable of choosing? Wasn't the means "preaching the gospel" and "1 peter 3:15" supposed to imply that people indeed can respond "Yes" to the gospel?
With all respect to my calvinist brothers and sisters, and i still believe that they are saved, that they are my brothers and sisters in Christ... it hurts me to with this video, arrive to the conclusion i was trying not to... that calvinism is diabolical. I never agreed with calvinism and it always felt intuitevely unbiblical and untrue to me. However after watching this video knowing the implications it brought to these people in case calvinism is not true... i have to come to the conclusion that it is indeed a demonic doctrine.

I didn't think I could possibly have had a lower opinion of James White than I did before watching this video. I was wrong! His conversation with that young Mormon man was physically, mentally and spiritually more agonizing than this bout of flu that's been kicking my behind the last several days.
Dr James White has taught me more about understanding scripture and other doctrines, than my own pastor. I'm not a Calvinist, but I am trying to understand how soteriology works. I have learned a lot from Dr Flowers also. I got to meet Dr Flowers through James White......Calvinist have many faults, but they are the best teachers and students of the Bible in my opinion.

I find it sad that rather than reading the entire flow of scripture, Calvinist theology lifts chapters and verses and ignores the context of scripture as a whole word of God.

You are allowed to bounce randomly around the novel and pick out a few other sentences to support your findings. Please disregard the other 462 pages. They're probably irrelevant to the rest of the story anyways and might cause some contradictions. Context is not necessary in this assignment." Do calvinists start other books, stories or articles in the middle? Why do so many read the word of God in this fashion? The Bible is a whole. I have done so much flip flopping on this topic. When I first heard about Calvinism from John Macarthur my gut reaction was to reject it but I listened to the arguments made by him and others as well as arguments from those who disagree, such as Dr. Flowers and others. My soul desire is to follow Christ as biblically as I can and be more like Him. Trying to understand both sides of this argument has been fatiguing. I love Christ and I praise Him for all he has done in my life, I just want to know Him and understand His word. In the last few weeks God has pointed me back to what is really important. Friends, just focus on Christ. There are so many voices out there and it is easy to become confused and overwhelmed. Focus on knowing Christ and who He says He is. Study His word, treasure it in your heart and develop a deeper love for Him. He will not hide Himself from you. You can sort through these doctrines of course but do not let it take you to a place of obsession. Do not leave your first love behind, He is all we have.
You should lean 80% towards reformed soteriology and be unwilling to plant your flag there. I've wrestled with it myself but the more I study, the more I grow in my walk and realize the nature of my salvation the more I realize it's all God, start to finish. The only part where scripture would disagree with Calvinism is in regards to limited atonement. Scripture clearly stated he died for the sins of the world. But scripture also states in John 16:9 that unbelief is a sin. Everyone really limits the atonements application. The disagreement is whether God or man limits it by their choice. It's clearly God. God doesn't just look down the corridors of time and choose all those that would choose Him. Man chooses and God chooses, yet God doesn't conform to mans choice. Just stay away from the "isms" and "ists." Remember, God is in the heavens and does whatever He pleases.

I see some of the arguments that are being made against reformed soteriology and I understand where the other side is coming from but I can't understand it biblically. They can break down a particular passage in isolation but I don't think it generally meshes well with the whole of scripture. It creates more confusion for me. Especially passages like John 6. Idk lol I think about my own salvation and I only see Gods hand in it, from beginning to end.

This is so well said my brother in Christ. I read about a young man who was heading off to seminary. AW Tozer was his friend and mentor. Before he left, the young man asked Tozer about his thoughts on the Calvinism/non-Calvinism debate. Tozer basically told him: My son, men will spend hours in the assembly areas debating the issue far into the nights. You go to your room and spend many hours alone with, getting to know and grow closer to your Lord and you will leave far better off than they... It's not that Tozer didn't hold to a position on the issue, but he understood the greater work we have to do in our service for and love of the Great I Am and Lord of Lords!
The week before the Covid shutdown of America I attended a debate in Utah between Kwaku El and a Christian. The place was packed and I was looking forward to seeing this Christian systematically deconstruct the Mormon religion. My hopes were soon dashed. Kwaku quickly made the debate about Mormonism vs Calvinism. The Calvinist should have pointed out that there are other views of Christianity to consider and to keep the focus of the debate in mind -- it was not supposed to be a debate about Calvinism. Instead, he took the bate and lost the debate. When the curtains are pulled back and Calvinism is exposed for what it really is, it is horrifying. That's exactly what Kwaku did and the false god of Mormonism looked way better than the false god of Calvinism. I was the first one to the mic for the Q&A session. I quickly pointed out how Molinism can answer the problems Kwaku was offering. When the debate was over I had a really nice talk with him and his colleagues.

James White & Jeff Durbin are so infuriating! They are leading people to the gates of heaven and practically barring entrance. Whose side are they on? You can't be saved if you're not elect, so better you don't read about it - what?!?! And that debate with the Mormon gentleman.... I've watched the whole thing, and if I were in that room, I'd be defending him. Not mormonism - total cult - but their treatment of him. Grrrrrr! These examples of hyper-calvinism convince me that it's the doctrines of satan. Get people one degree off their course, and they'll never make it to their destination. All I can think of is the Scripture that says” you travel to the ends of the earth to make a convert, and make them twice a son of hell as you are”, and “ you keep people from entering and you yourselves do not enter” . @@urfriend919 You should become familiar with how a provisionist deals with certain passages before you start mocking them and assuming that they just ignore passages rather than looking at the context. Calvinism likes short little statements from the bible rather than reading within the intended context. You seem to like those same short statements mixed with your own assumptions. Yep, Calvinism needs to be corrected and so does provisionist. Salvation is actually a death of who you are at the time. It is the old man dying. Like Jesus said, you must be willing to die to everything in this life and become a slave of Jesus Christ. People tried to save me or lead me to the Lord, but until I consciously knew that I have to die to myself and in so doing I stop being a slave of sin and become a slave of Christ. I also has to be willing to become a slave to Christ, BEFORE, God saved me. Are those works? Yes, but those works were a product of faith in God. None of us deserve heaven, we are all guilty before God. But God saved Abraham because of his works, which were a product of his faith. So he was saved because of his faith in God. Does God save all those who come unto him? Yes. Does coming to him in order to get saved require works of faith?? I do not think either system, quite explains how salvation takes place.

Calvinism is such a dark philosophy of determinism, many Calvinist over generations become atheist or universalists because they are holding contradictory views of God at the same time in their mind. Calvinism leads to atheism or universalism, because it is theistic determinism which offers zero hope, even less hope then atheistic determinism.
5-Point Calvinism states that man is so totally depraved that he is unable to choose God or even want to! If you take a 1000 people and asked them to make a choice with these questions. I have to admit I laughed, but it's really not funny, when James White was losing so badly to that poor Mormon kid on his radio show that Durbin had to jump in and interrupt. Determinism is philosophical poison. It can make a person look silly even when discussing with someone holding beliefs as looney as Mormonism.
No they read and remember probably more than we do but they have a lense that puts it all to vain. They see the scriptures through the new understanding they learned. Romans 9 is usually a good chapter that clouds them. Paul in general confused people to begin with so perhaps that's why.
Imagine being mad and cutting someone off because they said God loves everyone and doesn't want evil to happen. I have heard calvinists many times argue: "We don´t believe in determinism, we believe in free will. You have free will if you are not forced but instead do what you want to do." And how do you think a determinist thinks the world works; that people don´t do what they want? It´s exactly the same.
Thank you Dr. Flowers. I've listened to almost all of your videos and have been very encouraged. I am grieved with the Calvanism that is taught in our church. I feel trapped. If there was another conservative church in the area that didn't teach Calvanism, I would be tempted to leave my church. I love my church family ,so it would be very hard for me to leave.

I don't think there is any Assurance of salvation Calvinisticly speaking. How the heck would you know? By doing "good works" ? Feeding the poor clothing the naked? This is painful to watch. TULIP is hampering the gospel message. It seems like some are more interested in the intellectual exercise of convincing people of their contentious doctrine instead of Christ dying and taking upon himself the sins of the world.

Thank you for your encouragement and exhortation. I have been listening to non Calvinist teaching and I believe the Lord is breaking down the wall and barriers of lies and I am thankful for that.
It's so very sad. You can see that these folks who don't know Christ can assume from what they are saying that they have to have God "make" them believe it before surrendering. I see so many believing Christians struggle with doubt already as their faith is tried or tested (or they are simply confused by false teaching)... I can't imagine this burden on someone who is just considering Christ. It's ironic. That gal from Westboro, knew that scripture by heart, but she doesn't know the Lord... heartbreaking to walk away from something counterfeit and mentally rejecting the genuine because of that deception. Praying for all of these folks and likely those like them in other interactions, that they would all come to know the love of Jesus personally.
4:34 I'm currently in the Philippines but born and raised in California. Before I moved I was into apologetics and one of my favorite sources was Greg Koukl and Stand To Reason. He started as an associate pastor at a Church I went to and I still consider him a good friend even though separated by great distance. I'm glad to see Leighton take a brotherly attitude in his disagreement here. The determinism in Calvinism is one reason why I could only be somewhat Calvinistic. I'm finding a great deal of benefit from the teaching here, One of the things that resonates with me is that C S Lewis was not a Calvinist. Lewis is one of my favorite authors and his moral argument for the existence of God is at odds with the Calvinistic world view.
I hope this sweet young man gets as far away from the LDS church (and as far away from James White) as fast as he possibly can. That guy was willing to listen and engage and it was wasted with James White.

However, it should be: "Is scripture true or do I need a special interpretation from learned people to tell me that scripture does not mean what it says". Oh brother. In one of those clips, at about 43:15, the guy asks “What shall I do to be saved?” - the exact question the wealthy young man asked of Jesus. Did the Calvinist answer with Jesus’ words, which of course is the best answer? No. The Calvinist answers with Calvinist confusion, that it’s impossible for the unregenerate to be saved, even though Paul says with Jesus all things are possible. Calvinists’ version of Christianity is incompatible with Godly reasoning.

With all respect to my calvinist brothers and sisters, and i still believe that they are saved, that they are my brothers and sisters in Christ... it hurts me to with this video, arrive to the conclusion i was trying not to... that calvinism is diabolical. Calvinists always ignore the words “what if God…” in that passage of Romans. There are many instances in Scripture where people question God, they were free to do so. God is so much bigger than our doubts and never killed anyone who asked him “why questions.

If you paid attention the point is that we are told to pray and ask God to move in peoples lives that is part of our relationship with Him. Calvinists are saying, admitting, that the Potter is a sinner in Romans 9 because the clay cannot question the Potter per all Calvinists and the clay is doing what the Potter makes them do. However, Calvinists simply ignore Jeremiah 7: 31, 19:5, and 32:35; 1 Samuel 23:1-13, and especially Jeremiah 18 concerning the Potter and the Nations and National Israel and God's not doing what he planned if there is a turning either from wickedness or righteousness and Jonah is an example of that that is as clear as crystal. Judgment was imminent for the city and people and God didn't even call or command them to repent and they repented. Jonah explains his reason for running from God and it was because he knew God was merciful and he didn't want God to forgive them. According to Jeremiah 18 God was not going to destroy them because they turned away form darkness, or unrighteousness.
I remember seeing Richard Dawkins mockingly call Christians the "chosen few" I was lost on that, because I never learned of calvanism, but it makes sense!
Honestly the more and more I hear about Calvanism the less and less I can even consider it Christian. It completely undermines Christianity all-together. I see people like Mike Winger claim that Calvinism is an "internal debate" (Mike Winger is not a Calvanist). Matters of faith and how you receive Salvation is NOT an internal debate. I don't necessarily believe that these proclaiming to believe Calvanism aren't saved, though. I'm not saying that. But I do have a hard time believing this is truly an "internal debate" as Mike Winger likes to say. At most I can argue I think Calvanism is more Christian than Catholicism and especially Mormonism/JW's. But Calvanism preaches that you cannot have faith, God makes you have faith. It also means you're one of the chosen few.
i truly believe MOST calvinists are saved, BUT they came to faith as noncalvinists that were recruited/subverted into the calvinist camp. think of the cancer analogy, cancer can only spread by invading healthy cells, but will eventually kill the host, which explains the cycle of calvinism's popularity, currently on the upswing and will then flat line in a decade or so.
So do Calvinists believe that God causes children to be sexually abused since they say “not a single thing happens apart from his will/plan.” Where as non Calvinists would say that those things happened because we have free will and people do bad things.
In other words, God wanted them to suffer to make himself look good. He couldn't make himself look good if those children weren't abused. Yet, he is already infinitely glorious, so he doesn't need more glory. Then he just happens to choose some of the most awful ways to get glory he already has. Lol

Considering the Mormon belief in eternal families via sealing (either in this life or after death), the Calvinist doctrine or election would certainly seem pretty horrific. Imagine spending your whole life believing you would spend the eternities with your family only to be told if they’re not elect they’re damned. It’s just sickening.

Calvinism is embarrassingly easy to refute from Genesis to Revelation beginning with their foundation: 1) their definition of sovereign and 2) Miticulous Determinism. One thing calvinists often say against the "if calvinism is true why even bother preaching the gospel? People are uncapable of even believing unless God Miraculously changes them. So why bother?", is that preaching the gospel is the way and means God uses to reach his elect and because he says so.... i wonder, if we are uncapable of even believing, why would God choose a means to reach HIS ELECT, that implies that they indeed are capable of choosing? With all respect to my calvinist brothers and sisters, and i still believe that they are saved, that they are my brothers and sisters in Christ... it hurts me to with this video, arrive to the conclusion i was trying not to... that calvinism is diabolical. I didn't think I could possibly have had a lower opinion of James White than I did before watching this video. I was wrong! His conversation with that young Mormon man was physically, mentally and spiritually more agonizing than this bout of flu that's been kicking my behind the last several days.
Dr James White has taught me more about understanding scripture and other doctrines, than my own pastor.
I'm not a Calvinist, but I am trying to understand how soteriology works.
I have learned a lot from Dr Flowers also. I got to meet Dr Flowers through James White......Calvinist have many faults, but they are the best teachers and students of the Bible in my opinion.

I find it strange that James White and Jeff have "Babies are murdered here" on the wall (talking about their stance on abortion) but at the same time believe that God eternally decreed abortion to happen for his "glory".

I have done so much flip flopping on this topic. When I first heard about Calvinism from John Macarthur my gut reaction was to reject it but I listened to the arguments made by him and others as well as arguments from those who disagree, such as Dr. Flowers and others. My soul desire is to follow Christ as biblically as I can and be more like Him. Trying to understand both sides of this argument has been fatiguing. I love Christ and I praise Him for all he has done in my life, I just want to know Him and understand His word. In the last few weeks God has pointed me back to what is really important. Friends, just focus on Christ. There are so many voices out there and it is easy to become confused and overwhelmed. Focus on knowing Christ and who He says He is. Study His word, treasure it in your heart and develop a deeper love for Him. He will not hide Himself from you. You can sort through these doctrines of course but do not let it take you to a place of obsession. Do not leave your first love behind, He is all we have.
You should lean 80% towards reformed soteriology and be unwilling to plant your flag there. I've wrestled with it myself but the more I study, the more I grow in my walk and realize the nature of my salvation the more I realize it's all God, start to finish. The only part where scripture would disagree with Calvinism is in regards to limited atonement. Scripture clearly stated he died for the sins of the world. But scripture also states in John 16:9 that unbelief is a sin. Everyone really limits the atonements application. The disagreement is whether God or man limits it by their choice. It's clearly God. God doesn't just look down the corridors of time and choose all those that would choose Him. Man chooses and God chooses, yet God doesn't conform to mans choice. Just stay away from the "isms" and "ists." Remember, God is in the heavens and does whatever He pleases.

I see some of the arguments that are being made against reformed soteriology and I understand where the other side is coming from but I can't understand it biblically. They can break down a particular passage in isolation but I don't think it generally meshes well with the whole of scripture. It creates more confusion for me. Especially passages like John 6. Idk lol I think about my own salvation and I only see Gods hand in it, from beginning to end.

I read about a young man who was heading off to seminary. AW Tozer was his friend and mentor. Before he left, the young man asked Tozer about his thoughts on the Calvinism/non-Calvinism debate.
Tozer basically told him: My son, men will spend hours in the assembly areas debating the issue far into the nights. You go to your room and spend many hours alone with, getting to know and grow closer to your Lord and you will leave far better off than they...
It's not that Tozer didn't hold to a position on the issue, but he understood the greater work we have to do in our service for and love of the Great I Am and Lord of Lords!
The week before the Covid shutdown of America I attended a debate in Utah between Kwaku El and a Christian. The place was packed and I was looking forward to seeing this Christian systematically deconstruct the Mormon religion. My hopes were soon dashed. Kwaku quickly made the debate about Mormonism vs Calvinism. The Calvinist should have pointed out that there are other views of Christianity to consider and to keep the focus of the debate in mind -- it was not supposed to be a debate about Calvinism. Instead, he took the bate and lost the debate.
When the curtains are pulled back and Calvinism is exposed for what it really is, it is horrifying. That's exactly what Kwaku did and the false god of Mormonism looked way better than the false god of Calvinism.
I was the first one to the mic for the Q&A session. I quickly pointed out how Molinism can answer the problems Kwaku was offering. When the debate was over I had a really nice talk with him and his colleagues.

You should become familiar with how a provisionist deals with certain passages before you start mocking them and assuming that they just ignore passages rather than looking at the context.
Calvinism likes short little statements from the bible rather than reading within the intended context. You seem to like those same short statements mixed with your own assumptions.

Yep, Calvinism needs to be corrected and so does provisionist. Salvation is actually a death of who you are at the time. It is the old man dying. Like Jesus said, you must be willing to die to everything in this life and become a slave of Jesus Christ.
People tried to save me or lead me to the Lord, but until I consciously knew that I have to die to myself and in so doing I stop being a slave of sin and become a slave of Christ. I also has to be willing to become a slave to Christ, BEFORE, God saved me.
Are those works? Yes, but those works were a product of faith in God. None of us deserve heaven, we are all guilty before God. But God saved Abraham because of his works, which were a product of his faith. So he was saved because of his faith in God.
Does God save all those who come unto him? Yes. Does coming to him in order to get saved require works of faith??

No they read and remember probably more than we do but they have a lense that puts it all to vain. They see the scriptures through the new understanding they learned. Romans 9 is usually a good chapter that clouds them. Paul in general confused people to begin with so perhaps that's why.

Smh I'm not a big Fan of James White although I respect his contributions to the faith like Forgotten Trinity. I'm not a fan of Jeff Durbin at all. That was a 2 on 1 debate. This is painful to watch. TULIP is hampering the gospel message. It seems like some are more interested in the intellectual exercise of convincing people of their contentious doctrine instead of Christ dying and taking upon himself the sins of the world.

Thank you for your encouragement and exhortation. I have been listening to non Calvinist teaching and I believe the Lord is breaking down the wall and barriers of lies and I am thankful for that.
It's so very sad. You can see that these folks who don't know Christ can assume from what they are saying that they have to have God "make" them believe it before surrendering. I see so many believing Christians struggle with doubt already as their faith is tried or tested (or they are simply confused by false teaching)... I can't imagine this burden on someone who is just considering Christ. It's ironic. That gal from Westboro, knew that scripture by heart, but she doesn't know the Lord... heartbreaking to walk away from something counterfeit and mentally rejecting the genuine because of that deception. Praying for all of these folks and likely those like them in other interactions, that they would all come to know the love of Jesus personally.

4:34 I'm currently in the Philippines but born and raised in California. Before I moved I was into apologetics and one of my favorite sources was Greg Koukl and Stand To Reason. He started as an associate pastor at a Church I went to and I still consider him a good friend even though separated by great distance. I'm glad to see Leighton take a brotherly attitude in his disagreement here. The determinism in Calvinism is one reason why I could only be somewhat Calvinistic. I'm finding a great deal of benefit from the teaching here, One of the things that resonates with me is that C S Lewis was not a Calvinist. Lewis is one of my favorite authors and his moral argument for the existence of God is at odds with the Calvinistic world view.
I hope this sweet young man gets as far away from the LDS church (and as far away from James White) as fast as he possibly can. That guy was willing to listen and engage and it was wasted with James White.

Oh brother. In one of those clips, at about 43:15, the guy asks “What shall I do to be saved?” - the exact question the wealthy young man asked of Jesus. Did the Calvinist answer with Jesus’ words, which of course is the best answer? No. The Calvinist answers with Calvinist confusion, that it’s impossible for the unregenerate to be saved, even though Paul says with Jesus all things are possible. Calvinists’ version of Christianity is incompatible with Godly reasoning.

Calvinists are saying, admitting, that the Potter is a sinner in Romans 9 because the clay cannot question the Potter per all Calvinists and the clay is doing what the Potter makes them do.
However, Calvinists simply ignore Jeremiah 7: 31, 19:5, and 32:35; 1 Samuel 23:1-13, and especially Jeremiah 18 concerning the Potter and the Nations and National Israel and God's not doing what he planned if there is a turning either from wickedness or righteousness and Jonah is an example of that that is as clear as crystal. Judgment was imminent for the city and people and God didn't even call or command them to repent and they repented. Jonah explains his reason for running from God and it was because he knew God was merciful and he didn't want God to forgive them. According to Jeremiah 18 God was not going to destroy them because they turned away form darkness, or unrighteousness.

Honestly the more and more I hear about Calvanism the less and less I can even consider it Christian. It completely undermines Christianity all-together. I see people like Mike Winger claim that Calvinism is an "internal debate" (Mike Winger is not a Calvanist). Matters of faith and how you receive Salvation is NOT an internal debate.
I don't necessarily believe that these proclaiming to believe Calvanism aren't saved, though. I'm not saying that. But I do have a hard time believing this is truly an "internal debate" as Mike Winger likes to say. At most I can argue I think Calvanism is more Christian than Catholicism and especially Mormonism/JW's. But Calvanism preaches that you cannot have faith, God makes you have faith. It also means you're one of the chosen few.

Considering the Mormon belief in eternal families via sealing (either in this life or after death), the Calvinist doctrine or election would certainly seem pretty horrific. Imagine spending your whole life believing you would spend the eternities with your family only to be told if they’re not elect they’re damned. It’s just sickening.

How can he evangelize someone that is sovereignty and unchangably decreed to hold to a religion invented by a charlatan (who himself was ordained to found a false religion).
@@martytu20 You have to jettison the whole TULIP systematic in order to evangelize. No wonder Calvinists are not inclined to evangelize or do street preaching, etc.
