Check out Mark Addy, the a tor who played Robert, when he was in his 20s. Even though he's paler and heavier, it;s the shape, look and colour of the eyes and the nose, chin and mouth that look like they are father and son.
It's always a nice tough when the casting directors look for someone who is both able to act and also resemble the person they are meant to be related to in-universe.

She worked in an alehouse. *Ned* :Did Lord Stannis question you as well? *Gendry* :The bald one? No, not him. Bibash Budha I find it so cool that Arryn (man who raised Robert as a child), Ned (his best friend since childhood) and Stannis (his own brother) are instantly able to see how gendry is the spitting image of Robert when he was younger
I think Gendry’s mother having yellow hair while he has black is an important detail. It shows how dominant the Baratheon trait of black of hair is and only further supports Ned’s suspicions later that Roberts children aren’t his own.
That's the reason he died, he was too good. And even his daughter got banged by the bastard he saved here 😂 little finger whom he trusted also tried his way with his widow and other daughter after he died, being good screwed him over in every way.
King Robert would have found a purpose in his life if he had a chance to meet Gendry. The two had so much in common, being a father to the boy would have helped immensely.
@@K1ng1995 Then Cersei threatened to kill her if she ever enter their home and Robert likely decided to keep his distance from all his bastards from that day on since he knew Cersei definitely would go through with that threat.
@@goatlover6312 Maybe that was when Robert really started going downhill, the sadness of not being a father to his true born children because he must've had some clue something was wrong with his children. I honestly believe that if Robert had met Gendry in the show, and in the books if Maya, Gendry, and Edric all lived in King's Landing and given the surname Baratheon Robert would've been a much better king
Something I have noticed that somemight missed is the blonde hair of Gendry's mother. Its implied that no matter the mother, Baratheons always inherit dark hair. I think that was one of the hints.
+B-poptosis How can a bastard has a better claim than a wife and mother of kings? Unless the R+C=G is true that is Cerci being Gendry's mother. Yes she had a 4th child. Infact a firstborn "a black-haired beauty" as she said in S01 E02 but he "passed away" because she didn't want Robert to have an heir. She loved him so much (and how can a mother hate her firstborn!?) she didn't have him killed and she couldn't get far from him, so she would come disguised and sing to him "she had yellow hair". A yellow haired whore? That's unique. Look how Ned seemed very surprised when Gendry started talking about his mother.
I love how the comments stagger from 2 years ago just after season seven finished up, to 2 days ago, when 8x02 aired and the Gendrya fandom celebrated!!
Can we just appreciate how trusting he is of his knights. He just told the single most important information that could have ended the entire series and he did it without even thinking of the consequences. Respect is earned gentlemen/ladies.
“Let them look” is such an underrated line. Ned knows that what he is doing is honorable. He doesn’t care who sees him because he has nothing to hide. This is the precise attitude that leads to his demise.
This just enforces the love Ned has for Robert. He immediately sees this kid as someone he needs to protect. This added to how warmly he greets Renly when arriving at King’s Landing and how he saw Stannis as the true rightful heir to the throne. Yes his decisions are mainly based on honor and what’s right but you can also tell that there’s a genuine want in him to see that Robert’s legacy and true family are respected and honored.
If Gendry does become legitimized as a Baratheon, why would he want a servant to make him his weapons and armor when he can make his own by himself. Gendry would be the epitome of the self-made man starting as an unacknowledged bastard to becoming the new lord of Storm's End. That would be an epic turn in his story!
The only thing that ever bothered me was the lack of physical portrayal of the baratheons. They were huge men, tall and jacked. Not short like Robert and Gendry, or feminine like renley
Between this episode and when Stannis met Gendry it proved that when Ned met Robert’s “children” at Winterfell at least one child should have had some hint of Robert in him. They both knew Gendry was Robert’s in one meeting.
"If there ever comes a day when that boy would rather weild a sword that forge one, you send him to me." Robert was the best warrior in the 7 kingdoms in his prime. He defeated Rhaegar Targaryen in single combat, beat countless knights, towered over most men, and was strong as an ox. Ned grew up with Robert, and knew how good of a fighter he was. Just a badass line.
When the shop owner speaks to Ned, his voice is nothing but submissive. But when he speaks to Gendry, his voice is suddenly stentorian. Just one of those wonderful details in early GoT I sorely miss...
Ned was a perfect example of GRR Martin making fantasy realistic. He was a honourable and kind soul but he wasn't ruthless enough. In real life ,heroes who have honor and do the right thing don't always live to see the end of the story. One of his biggest mistakes? Trusting people who used his trust against him so they could remove him. Simple fact; those who were smart would see him or anyone else as a serious threat. Ned was ONLY alive as long as Robert was alive. And it's not impossible his death was murder.
"If the day comes when that boy would rather wield a sword than forge one, you send him to me!" Oh Ned, Yes Gendry is now Forging weapons and is defending Winterfell! Long Live Gendry! The last Baratheon!!! Ned Spoke it into existence
I miss Ned. He's always been one of my favorites. He was so good and honorable and loyal and that was his downfall. Actually now looking back you realise that despite Game of Thrones being an excellent show it did kill some very pure characters and I understand the reason why but it's just sad and sometimes I wish it hadn't. Although in a way the series mirrors the world we live in where we don't get to chose who should die and we are constantly realising that those who don't deserve it are usually the ones to go first ( " only the good ones die young " ) I kind of get a feeling of sadness because this really isn't the kind of show you can run to in order to escape reality, I feel like it even gets you more in touch with the ways of the real world. So, to me it's a wonderful show but it's also a " goodbye fairytales " kind of show. In spite of everything I think that is exactly where it lies its greatness in the fact that it is a very unexpectedly and truthfully show in the way it portrays its story and characters even making you love them when you used to hate them it gives a very real feeling as if you're not just watching a show but something that with a few alterations could actually happen in real life.
You know the whole time Ned is looking at Gendry as the spitting image of Robert Baratheon. This was the man he fought with in the rebellion when he was young.

god ,show gendry is the spittin image of show Robert. good on the casting director
Check out Mark Addy, the a tor who played Robert, when he was in his 20s. Even though he's paler and heavier, it;s the shape, look and colour of the eyes and the nose, chin and mouth that look like they are father and son.
+John Smith Wow. Just checked it out and you're right. A little fatter in the face but very similar facial structure
Check out young Dianna Rigg (Olenna) and Nathalie Dormer (Margaery).
Oh shit, he's Fred Flintstone
Season 7 he looks like fucking Batman if you know what I fucking mean.
I like how his eyes and eyebrows genuinely resemble Robert so much
It's always a nice tough when the casting directors look for someone who is both able to act and also resemble the person they are meant to be related to in-universe.
*From the books:*
*Gendry* :He asked me questions is all, m’lord.
*Ned* :What sort of questions?
*Gendry* :How was I, and was I well treated, and if I liked the work, and stuff about my mother. Who she was and what she looked like and all.
*Ned* :What did you tell him?
*Gendry* :She died when I was little. She had yellow hair, and sometimes she used to sing to me, I remember. She worked in an alehouse.
*Ned* :Did Lord Stannis question you as well?
*Gendry* :The bald one? No, not him. He never said no word, just glared at me, like I was some raper who done for his daughter.
Bibash Budha I find it so cool that Arryn (man who raised Robert as a child), Ned (his best friend since childhood) and Stannis (his own brother) are instantly able to see how gendry is the spitting image of Robert when he was younger
“ just glared at me “. So typical of stannis
"Just glared at me" Oh Stannis. 😅
@@Oakland510 well he wouldn't be Stannis without his glares.
Right I forgot that Stannis was on this trail immediately prior to the events of the first book.
“There’s nothing to forgive.”
I miss Ned.
I think Gendry’s mother having yellow hair while he has black is an important detail. It shows how dominant the Baratheon trait of black of hair is and only further supports Ned’s suspicions later that Roberts children aren’t his own.
Ned was such a smart and wise character, I wish he hadn't died
What ned dies? What shit he is the protagonist
My favourite character ever ❤
Martin does have his reason why wanted Ned dead. Because his implying that honour is worthless.
That's the reason he died, he was too good. And even his daughter got banged by the bastard he saved here 😂 little finger whom he trusted also tried his way with his widow and other daughter after he died, being good screwed him over in every way.
Wise yes, smart not really. Well he is not dumb but also not smart enough to keep up with the others who play the game
King Robert would have found a purpose in his life if he had a chance to meet Gendry. The two had so much in common, being a father to the boy would have helped immensely.
In the books Roberts oldest bastard was a girl and according to other characters when Robert was around her when she was young he seemed "better"
@@K1ng1995 Mya Stone
@@gajatana4630 That's her name thank you stupid phone :)
Aww, look at Gendry, meeting his future father-in-law.
And here we are. Ned would approve.
Winter is not the only thing that's coming
What utter nonsense. They just fucked. If this meant marriage, Gendry - or Mya Stone as the oldest bastard in the books - would have been the heir.
The fact that we never got to see Gendry wearing a stag helmet in season 8 is a tragedy.
"If the day ever comes when that boy would rather wield a WARHAMMER than forge one, you send him to me".
Something I have noticed that somemight missed is the blonde hair of Gendry's mother. Its implied that no matter the mother, Baratheons always inherit dark hair. I think that was one of the hints.
In the books it says no matter how far back Ned went, the gold faltered before the coal
Even Rhaenys Targaryen got the Baratheon black hair from her mother. And the Valyrian genes are already strong af.
Exactly. In the books she had black hair that than had silvery streaks as the years went by. @@tatinesaenzk
1:55 "look at me......are you talking about BESSIE?".
😅 could have been..
Ned was such a good hearted and humble man on such a high position. Well deserved kings hand.
the tiny bit of Roberts cackle at the end is perfect
I still think Gendry should have played a more important role in the show.. Too bad this part of the story just kinda died
Cersei's queen, and Gendry has a better claim to the throne. He might be back next season...
Oh he will ^^
Mamitous that is the dumbest theory I've ever read.
Steph S "unless ... is true" yes it is dumb but it is out there :)
I have a son, you have a daughter, we'll join our houses.
- King Robert
I love how the comments stagger from 2 years ago just after season seven finished up, to 2 days ago, when 8x02 aired and the Gendrya fandom celebrated!!
Can we just appreciate how trusting he is of his knights. He just told the single most important information that could have ended the entire series and he did it without even thinking of the consequences. Respect is earned gentlemen/ladies.
Jory isn't a knight, he's Captain of Ned's household guard
Ned didn't have knights. Northmen weren't really into the whole knighthood thing.
if stannis is dead, Gendry is the true heir of the seven kingdoms
+fra0006 In any case his claim is certainly better than Tommen's.
SultanRoyal yes
+fra0006 he doesn't exist in the show, besides the tagaryens are no longer the true heirs, only baratheon.
+Javier Lopez you do know that the baratheon claim on the throne is through their grandmother's targaryen blood
+Javier Lopez a bastard cannot take the crown, only if a noble legitimize him. Which I doubt, but he will appear in season 6 for sure.
0:40 moment i realized that i have been calling him 'jendry' all this while...
aliesneo Curse you letter G!!!
In the books, Gendry seems to have inherited more of Stannis' personality, despite having Robert's physical appearance.
I know this is three years late but you totally right. I reread the book, he does have the physic of Robert, and he indeed does act like Stannis.
Ned saw the fury in his eyes
"There's no tellin' who has eyes where."
He is later stabbed in the eye.
Ned meets his future son-in-law.
Damn right!
Technically hes met three
Tyrion and Ramsay also count
When did he meet Ramsay
“Let them look” is such an underrated line.
Ned knows that what he is doing is honorable. He doesn’t care who sees him because he has nothing to hide.
This is the precise attitude that leads to his demise.
I miss Gendry so much !! hope we get to see him in season 6
TheAlpahks well season seven was it haha
Meanwhile on the show, legend has it that Gendry is remaking Castaway, except instead of a ball, he upgraded to a bulls-helm.
Meanwhile on the show, Gendry is banging Ned's daughter.
He was pounding the steel when Ned saw him, now he's pounding his daughter.
“There’s nothing to forgive” Said by Ned and then his nephew 😭
So this is how the prime Robert looks like when he battle with Regar..
Robert waa just taller and more muscular.
If we base it on Mark Addy's face, then young Robert could've looked a bit like Sam Worthington
Prime Robert was twice his size, almost as big as Gregor Clegane and was around 6'3.
@@H.K.5 gregor was like 6ft 7 ish
@@nicmagtaan1132 I was talking about Robert.
Gendry is gona be a hell of a warrior when he grows up and Ned knows it .
Everyone misses Ned, the most honorable man in Westeros, and that was his downfall
Grady P. Brown welp you’re right congratulations 😂👍🏼
Ned: " King Roberts bastsrd son.. "
1 sec after
Robert: " haahaaa "
The only thing that ever bothered me was the lack of physical portrayal of the baratheons. They were huge men, tall and jacked. Not short like Robert and Gendry, or feminine like renley
Sad that we never saw Gendry wearing the helmet he made. It looked rad as fuck
"Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days" - Twenty One pilots
Post Season 8 finale.
Ned: “how many royal bastards am I supposed to keep a secret????”
Between this episode and when Stannis met Gendry it proved that when Ned met Robert’s “children” at Winterfell at least one child should have had some hint of Robert in him. They both knew Gendry was Robert’s in one meeting.
The moment Ned saw his eyes, he knew...the resemblance was too strong.
"If the day ever comes when that boy would rather wield a sword than forge one, you send him to me."
Good old Ned ready to adopt another son.
"Gendry!!! gods, what a stupid name"- Robert Baratheon.
1:25 fly crawling on Ned's arm.
The fly deserves a Grammy award.
My god, I didn't even see that. Good eye man.
"If there ever comes a day when that boy would rather weild a sword that forge one, you send him to me."
Robert was the best warrior in the 7 kingdoms in his prime. He defeated Rhaegar Targaryen in single combat, beat countless knights, towered over most men, and was strong as an ox. Ned grew up with Robert, and knew how good of a fighter he was. Just a badass line.
looks of Renly, strength of Robert and mannerisms of Stannis. Baratheon through and through.
Gendry's hot af :D
Literally, stands by fire all day
Paul Thoresen 😂
When the shop owner speaks to Ned, his voice is nothing but submissive. But when he speaks to Gendry, his voice is suddenly stentorian. Just one of those wonderful details in early GoT I sorely miss...
Ned would have chased down Gendry all over Winterfell with his greatsword Ice if he found out he smashed his daughter! :))
Never in Ned's mind cross the tought that this kid will be his younger daughter first man.
Gendry is so funny, he was like 'your daughter calls me daddy too' and stayed like this
Ned was a perfect example of GRR Martin making fantasy realistic.
Even though it makes for a lot less of a story, in reality it's better to die while still honorable than stay alive by being dishonorable.
It’s the “modernistic” characters vs “postmodern” characters. A clash between artistic cultures.
on the other hand, no-one wants to follow dishonourable people. I doubt the Starks would've been so powerful if they were weasels like Littlefinger.
When you think about it, Ned's death set in motion a chain of events that would eventually lead to Gendry inserting his iron rod into his daughter
😂😂
Gendry didn’t know what was coming from the Starks... if you know what I mean *wink* *wink*😉
"If the day comes when that boy would rather wield a sword than forge one, you send him to me!"
Oh Ned, Yes Gendry is now Forging weapons and is defending Winterfell! Long Live Gendry! The last Baratheon!!! Ned Spoke it into existence
0:01 there goes Tyland/Jason Lannister
2:03 Ned: Gods, he's definitely Robert's son
0:11 the knight on horseback in the front. Is a knight of House Florent. The red fox sigil is unmistakable.
I'm so glad Ned met his future son-in-law before he passed ❤

In spite of everything I think that is exactly where it lies its greatness in the fact that it is a very unexpectedly and truthfully show in the way it portrays its story and characters even making you love them when you used to hate them it gives a very real feeling as if you're not just watching a show but something that with a few alterations could actually happen in real life.
notice how Gendry's demeanor slightly changes when Ned says,"theres nothing to forgive".
Ned sure has a knack for discovering bastard sons.
Came here to see all the praise for my boi gendry after.... recent events
Gendry's eyes really do look like Roberts
If Gendry had only known Ned was his Future Father in law😂😂
He wasnt.
Gendry was always good at pounding things.
2:01 that face is Robert's face during Robert's Rebellion
You know the whole time Ned is looking at Gendry as the spitting image of Robert Baratheon. This was the man he fought with in the rebellion when he was young.
