Saw one of these up close just recently and immediately started looking for build guides. Thank you so much for this excellent and thorough breakdown. And yeah, especially given that the Rangers questline gives you a free ship, a beast like this absolutely should have been a SysDef reward!
Taming the layout of a large ship is the end game boss of every starfield player. I prefer my port+bay+cockpit to be within one door of each other. I can force T-junctions, but I cannot force an O-layout, so I prefer H or T layouts where I can force the T junction.
If you want to lean into the security focused battle cruiser angle for this ship I'd swap out the missile launcher for 4 of the CE-59 launchers. They 'only' deal 150 damage compared to the 250 of the top Atlatl model, but you get 6 shots instead of just 2. They also only drain 3 power compared to the 4 on the Atlatl. This means you get 6 volleys of missiles that deal 600 damage; and if you don't care about reload time you can leave the system at 1 pip of power(out of 12).
You can get this ship as a good guy. There is a chance that a critical hit will occur during the fight with the pirates, resulting in the death of the entire crew. You can then dock and pick up the ship. Like winning the lottery, but still possible
I've been using this as my main ship. Its easy to upgrade and I added square cargo mods at the rear which fitted into the profile well. Like all ships once you improve grav drive, reactor etc its very good.
Then the law of averages and game hours blessed me then. I flew into a encounter where spacers impersonate rangers or secdef. This time it was a uc chimera. Took out their engines, boarded them and flew away in their ship. Here's the best part, the vessel stayed in my active inventory 5 days then into long term storage via my landing pad
Always struck me as odd that you get a costume (two technically), weapon and ship from doing the much easier Freestar Rangers mission arc yet you basically get the equivalent of nothing in comparison when you do the UC Sysdef arc and side with them. This would have been a great reward but having the teardown guide meant I’ve rebuilt Wanderwell into my own version of the Chimera. There’s also very similar ship (visually at least) that I’ve only ever seen once under very specific circumstances that’s also the only time I’ve ever seen a ship specifically labelled as “UC Navy” and that’s once you’ve completed the Ground Pounder mission, you get a random one-off encounter with a ship labelled as “UC Navy Nebula” that hails you and it turns out one of the characters from that mission is onboard and gives you a weapon as a reward.
I think I'm gonna build something with a similar silhouette as a wedding present for Sarah. Head cannon will be that it was a UC Navigator Corp ship that got mothballed with the Corp, and my character got it donated to Constellation.
Put in two of the turrets at the rear to cover your aft for when they get behind you. Kill the missile launcher and put in a single hard hitting gun up front, perhaps an Alpha beam. Sometimes turrets lag a second before firing, so it's nice to have something YOU have control over.
Yeah, that's very true. something weird about the turrets is that they seem to shoot immediately as a ship exits their jump, one shoting their shields, leaving them very vulnerable
I kinda wish we could build the inside of the ship just as part of building the outside. That we can build and fight fleet of ships. And also wish we can build capital ships or freighters that can either support us or be used to support our supply lines. And that we can land on those mega ships and not the regular dock hookup. Would like all my resources on those large ships so i can turn my main ship into a smuggler/pure fighter without trying to figure out resources and where to put them.
Yes a megaship has your remote hub or space outpost to say and then use your ship as your travel thing like normal Megaship would have a ship builder, bar, supply depot and stuff. Then to get more items sold on it buy licenses or passes to have access to items 🤔
@NFEzantiszar could also have it with a special designation based on role. Like a merchant freighter have most of the stores. A smuggler freighter would have a different variety of stores plus stolen goods that can be bought or sold. A UC carrier wouldn't have most of the stores but may have legal assortment of weak guns and armor and a higher number of ships it can store. Could be endless, and would be cool. Wish makes me believe it won't happen unless someone mods in the concept.
I wonder what would be the bounty if you took a UC Chimera with the idea in mind to just pay the bounty and put up with condemnation from Constellation. There was a walk though posted where the reviewer suggested don't side with anyone in the UC/SF saga. The benefits of finishing the quest line do not outweigh continuing to benefit by maintaining relationships with both UC and CF. As a Freestar Ranger, I see a lot of gray in both organizations. And there is a history with UC and Freeestar Collective to consider. Maybe I'll play both end against the middle for as long as I can.
When I sided with CF at the story conclusion of that arc, I regularly capture this ship when sysdef ships randomly jump me when I come out of gravjump. I didnt keep it, I prefer the CF Wight that I captured and used as my War Galleon that I remodelled. Another similiar ship you can capture is the Spacer Hyena and remodel it.
Ive always wanted this ship, I may have to build one. I had to go to NG again do to the save bug again, so lost all my ships again. Lol on your bounty 😄. I boarded a ecliptic ship last night and was killing the crew and started getting a bounty, had to be a bug.
Wouldn't it be great if bethesda actually went in these bigger ships they built? They'd realize that when building everything looks fine but the moment you walk around in them, you notice it's a maze bc where the game decides to put doors and how you can't have 2 doors on 1 hab even if it's a 3x3. This game chooses the worst spots to put doors. We should be able to put the door where we want them.
I've been wanting one of those for quite some time now, decided to build it myself since I've finally got a 38 reactor, still not The best but more then enough for now, but I'm building changing some things here and there, like adding a Battlestation instead of a 3x3 cargo space. Really wish the cargo room Actually could add cargo, maybe in an update or something I hope. Totally agree with you, in that quest when we fight you know who and do the side choice, really wish we could earn, if maybe not this one, but At Least one of the UC combat ships, or at least the ability to buy a few more versions of them. Some of the Vanguard and SisDef ships can be bought at Deimos, the easiest place for them to show up as far as I could find, but the Chimera I never saw, just like the Hoplite. I know we can get the Hoplite but, idk if I'm seeing things, but the model of the Hoplite in Deimos 'show room', looks a bit different then the one they use and we can buy, need to check it again, but managed to build one but with a few more stuff to make it more useful. To be honest, I was hopping for even bigger ships in game for the player. I mean, it Is possible to build some crazy stuff, but none of them feels like an actual battle ship nor a Flagship, I would say the Best we could build in a still sensible way would be more like something between a Destroyer and a Small Cruiser at best, or an equivalent to a Jeep Renegade cosplaying as a Willys from WW2 or something like that. Really hope to see more military ships added with new Staryard companies, also more civilian and hauler interiors and parts, that could enhance the roleplay quite a bit, since not all ships Need to be military nor have military interiors like all of them do currently. And of course, the hability to sell tons of resorces at once, I mean, a max of 11K credits at a time is so annoying. Really hope we can sell stuff more easily in the future, so big cargo ships Actually make sense.
There is a model of the mako in the taiyo shop thats different from the actual ship, so it wouldn't surprise me if they messed up more than one. Hopefully, we will get an update or dlc that expands the ship building, i too would love to have a larger capital ship to fly around patrolling the settled system
Not gonna lie, that little ship is so cute, I think it's the cutest so far, I plan to build it at some point, since I'm not sure if buying the Mako and modding it to look like that one is cheaper, probably not. Take a look at Deimos later if you can, I'm sure the Hoplite in display there is at least one 2x1 hab bigger then the one we can buy, also, different engines like Mako model in display. Maybe for an updated Mk2 or something in a future DLC? Or at least I hope, hahahahaha.
The Ares Bridge sitting over a Battlestation would make for a nice feel, though a bit overkill with the 14 Crew Stations(you can only ever use 9, and that's with Sarah being the free 9th member). I do something slightly similar with the Silent Runner, putting a Battlestations below the Armstrong cockpit with the tunnel leading out to the forward HopeTech docker. Basically it gives my crew battle positions for combat docking.
Starfield REALLY needs to overhaul their faces... yes they took a dare and went for highly realistic faces but all they managed was to dive straight down the uncanny valley. I haven´t bought the game by now because i want to wait for a STEAM Sale, once i do i hope they have corrected, otherwise i´ll mod the game. Because i am certain i´m not the only one wanting better faces and modders are working to improve the game pretty much since Day 1. The whole ship building is amazing, i just wish this would be a feature in which ships actually play a more essential role.
@@CrimsonFlyboy oh, yes, the Andromeda faces, i never played it but it went over the entire internet. Such a shame for a large studio, and only because the higher-ups wanted them to use the Frostbite engine.
Okay well I thought that Vista was a huge maze that’s actually easy to navigate compared to this Chimera ship which is biggest maze in a ship I have ever seen.
Not one for me, the interior layout would drive me berserk! Seeing some more larger ships where both the interior layout and exterior aesthetics matter equally would be nice but unfortunately that appears not to be the case very often. Since watching your Sparrowhawk Gunship video I've been trying to get more minimalist while keeping what I consider to be essentials such as an all in one and workshop hab but as low mass as possible. 796 is my best so far where I don't hate the appearance and it does well in combat. It's a work in progress...
With some experimentation, you can block off certain pathways while using Companionways to focus pathways elsewhere. Since this ship breaks up the middle already you just need to pick one of the sides to block off with the solid hull pieces. That would force the ship to follow an 'H' layout. Basically, this ship having 3 Companionways at the front in the middle deck is a bad idea.
i found one an said its going to be another ship. Turned it into a Vista class ship i can never find that ship at all for the love of me in the game. even with a reload method.

Are you making use of the buttons to choose where the door or ladder is
@@CrimsonFlyboyWhat what buttons? There is no UI info on that?

I was looking for this ship at a vendor. Guess that's why I couldn't find one. Thanks for the video.
Thanks again for the great breakdown. Just made one from scratch. Keep up the reviews it has helped me a lot personally
You can get this ship as a good guy. There is a chance that a critical hit will occur during the fight with the pirates, resulting in the death of the entire crew. You can then dock and pick up the ship. Like winning the lottery, but still possible
My current pirate ship is a SYSDEF Chimera III. No bounty added and my crew was cheering me on.
I've been using this as my main ship. Its easy to upgrade and I added square cargo mods at the rear which fitted into the profile well. Like all ships once you improve grav drive, reactor etc its very good.
My Crimson Fleet Hyena slices through these like butter.

Yeah, you lose out on a lot of vendors if you side against the crimson fleet. Honestly, the rewards on either side of that quest feel pretty mediocre.
thank you for this I got the Chimera 3 lvl 62 yesterday and I'm going to change the habs cause the lay is sorta confusing

I have disabled the engines on this ship tons of times and it won't let me dock it, do you know if I'm doing anything wrong ?
You shouldn't be doing anything wrong. Have you unlocked the perk to focus on specific enemy modules
@CrimsonFlyboy yes mate , I have targeting systems unlocked and my class c unlocked
Are there any other ships around, the ship you want to dock needs to be the last ship remaining.
i found one an said its going to be another ship. Turned it into a Vista class ship i can never find that ship at all for the love of me in the game. even with a reload method.
You found a chimera or a vista. The chimera you have to steal off the uc security, the vista you buy at vendors
