I honestly don't think he deserves the respect of getting his name right. He has no respect for other people, and merely only wishes to lash out in uncalled for, selfish, spite and pettiness and insult the work of entirely innocent parties for a minor name-drop error. If he has such a horrendous attitude and personally insults and slanders someone else over his mild irritation at not getting a name drop, then maybe his name isn't that important itself to pronounce in the first place.
This soundtrack was the epitome of the happiest times of their childhood in the late 90’s going into the year 2000, but at times it can be sad, because I never thought “Back In Time” would hold some significance to what is going on now, it’s sad because now some of us, especially myself, feel like going “Back In Time”, and if we were able to do so, the one thing we should be doing, is figuring out where things went wrong with us.
TJ Davis is an incredible singer with powerful vocals. My favorite song of hers in Sonic R is between Living in the City or Back in Time. My most favorite song of Ms. Davis is perhaps Am I Only Dreaming (Original Mix).
I unironically love Sonic R. Its soundtrack is so unique and different compared to the ones we’ve gotten after. I played it countless times through the Gems Collection. Wish we’d get a remake with online multiplayer
Thankfully a fanmade online remake does exist on Roblox! Its called Sonic R-echarged if I recall correctly, and it adds some new characters, as well as a new race track! The new race track also of course has its own song, which is more specifically another song by TJ Davis! (I can't remember what that song is called, though 😅) If you don't want to be "spoiled" I guess, then go look it up for yourself. But if you don't mind: The new playable characters are Honey the Cat, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel! The new track is called Sunset Town, which is cute but unfortunately breaks the naming convention of every track name starting with the letter R. This is why some fans have taken to instead calling it Residential Town or Residential Sunset, or simply Resident Town or Resident Sunset!! 💖💞 If I recall correctly, you can also play as Amy on foot/without her car!! You can also choose to play as her in her car if you want to instead, I think. If I'm not mistaken, car Amy & on foot Amy share a character slot, in the same way that Sonic & Super Sonic share a spot on the character select screen!!
Living in the city, you know you have to survive! Thanks for talking about this game, so many good memories playing this with my cousin when we were kids.
I don't care what anyone thinks, I always love all of the songs of Sonic R no matter what. I was introduced to the Sonic franchise in 1996 when I was 8 years old, but I think I learned about Sonic R and its BANGER songs for the first time in 1997 or 1998 if I remember correctly. I remember a lot of Sonic fans back then criticised the soundtrack of Sonic R for being too sweet and uncharacteristically romantic for a Sonic game in their opinion, but I disagreed with their opinion back then and always will. The songs of Sonic R always put a smile on my face and always make my heart sing with joy and always bring light into my darkest days no matter what. Also, as a kid I liked to imagine that the 'R' in Sonic R didn't stand for 'Racing' but instead stood for my name 'Rishi'. Furthermore, I think that the songs of Sonic R are being sung from Amy's point of view because of their romantic nature as us Sonic fans know that Sonic himself couldn't care less for romance. Also, my most favourite song from Sonic R is Work It Out (just like you), then Can You Feel The Sunshine?, then You're My Number One and then all of the other songs. Also, I didn't know until watching this video that Richard was a jerk but luckily for me, I ALWAYS separate the art from the artist which is why I always love all of the songs of Sonic R no matter what.
I dont know how you can't crack a wide smile when listening to this soundtrack. It's got great, happy vibes that just hits at the heart of your soul. I remember always playing Can You Feel the Sunshine many after-school evenings just to cheer myself up after a long, hard day. In fact that and Living In the City are probably my two favorite tracks. But the whole soundtrack is just 100 percent the best thing ever. Definitely a banger OST
its cool to hear "Work it Out" is someone's favorite song, you dont hear that often. My favorite from the soundtrack is the options menu music. even though its one of the few tracks without vocals, that bass is so delicious. check out the Zone Runners' cover of it "Chillin Til Infinity"
My favorite song from this soundtrack is Diamond in the Sky(The regular Raidant Emerald theme), It just has this real magical feel to it, listening to it makes me feel like I'm flying through the night sky.
Number One and Living in the City are my personal favourites. Grew up with the game and the concept is honestly so novel, the gameplay could be worse and I would still love the game. I got recommended your channel out of nowhere and I was very pleasantly surprised to see someone who's just as passionate about Sonic R's soundtrack as I've been for the past 20+ years. Banger soundtrack for sure.
Diamond in the Sky is my favorite with Super Sonic Racing and You’re My Number One right behind. Absolutely love this OST. Has been on every smartphone I’ve ever owned. The OST also hits different around holiday season for me.
Back In Time is my absolute favorite. It's amazing cause it makes me all nostalgic like. The feeling of I want to go back in time without having to really care about anything. Plus the story of the music of how it feels like the 2 are in a slight argument and want the relationship to revert back to how they met where they met. At least I think that is how I read the story on this track.
The keyboards on "work it out" are so ear pleasing. Best enjoyed loud on home/car stereo. Lyrics can be quite uplifting depending on the mood. Cheese is good!🧀🧀🧀
I have never once touched this game, nor have I ever seen a full clip from it, not even a full race. Just snippets of it. Yet, I have listened to the soundtrack SO MANY times. Never knew JAKES was such a jerk though. Shame. I think my favorite is just the title theme, Super Sonic Racing. Just a classic, I headbang SO HARD with it.
Shocked at how many comments for a commentary about Sonic R ost. I love it. Shows that it is truly loved, unlike people who pan the music. That’s what I love about retro gaming. As games age they can be seen in a proper perspective and the cream rises to the top.
I play "Can you feel the Sunshine?" whenever I go for a run. I think my favorite is "Living in the City", I also sometimes just play the whole soundtrack when I have a bad day.
This was a good video and very well done! The only issue I really had was Richard Jacques' pronunciation of his last name. It's actually pronounced "Jakes" instead of "Jhawk". But that's okay! I only mentioned that because I was calling him "Jhawk" for YEARS until i heard his name in an interview. 😂 And I liked your mention of his beef(?) with Tee Lopes because i remember that, too, and thought that was in poor taste as well. Never meet your herores, I guess, lol. 😅 Again, great video and i can't wait to watch the others! Subscribed! Also, as a fan of Jacques' work, I highly recommend the soundtrack for Metropolis Street Racer (Dreamcast)! "Am I Only Dreaming", "It Doesn't Really Matter", "Holding On", and "Outside In" being my personal faves.
Daammnnn I should have listened to the actual man pronounce his own name before going in with my butchered pronunciation lmao. Thanks for letting me know!
It's interesting to hear Yasuhara, probably the guy who made the momentum physics of the Genesis era work thanks to his level design, say that a racing game of characters running isn't a great idea, considering that's like the one thing people wish future racing games applied instead of having Sonic cast in vehicles.
That Sonic R soundtrack CD was the first CD I ever imported, specifically because I loved Sonic R's music so much (back then it was only available in Japan or import shops). GameFan magazine (really great gaming mag from the mid to late 90s) had a catalog in the back for a lot of import shops that you could order stuff like that from. If you imported some of Sonic's Japanese materials from the Saturn era, you actually would see Uekawa's Adventure redesigns for Sonic before Sonic Adventure. (IIRC, I think his art was used as promotional material for Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Jam in Japan and some of the other "Project Sonic" stuffs over there too). Fun fact: Richard Jacques was also one of the composers that worked on Jet Set Radio with main series composer Hideki Naganuma. "Electric Tooth Brush" and "Everyone Jump Around" were both made by him.
I play sonic r while at work. I can’t believe you are making videos of everything I like. It’s almost as if we’re living on the same frequency in different parts of the country!
I got Sonic R for my Saturn way back when it was brand new in 1997 and I was still a little kid, and admittedly I absolutely hated the soundtrack at first. It’s really grown on me over the years though, and now I love it, with the main theme Super Sonic Racing being my favorite song from the game.
My favorite thing about Sonic R is that it was adapted from the F1 game that Traveller's Tales (later Tt Games of Lego game fame) was already working on. Sonic has always had ties to pop music, so it really fits.
Rusty Ruin Zone and Gene Gadget Zone from the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast are my favorite tracks from him. The special stage zone is also a treat to listen to. Sonic R’s soundtrack is the icing on the cake for me. I remember owning the double disc version of these games for Windows pc and playing them on my old Windows desktop.
I love this soundtrack so much! As well as just being really good on the surface level, there's a lot of interesting music theory stuff going on. That chromatic downwards slide during the chorus of Diamond in the Sky will never stop being amazing
I first played it on Sonic Gems Collection, i freaking love it! I love the scavenger hunt aspect while racing and there are ways around the bad controls, some games dont have ways around bad controls, the main problem with it to me is that its so short with only 5 levels😢
I distinctly remember the way I found this soundtrack. Basically, 4 years ago I had watched a ton of Sonic Robo Blast 2 (SRB2) content, and I accidently looked up Sonic R instead one time. I skimmed through a ton of videos on it and decided to listen to the soundtrack and it blew my mind how amazing the soundtrack was. Great video though.
Kinda wish Sega would do/contract out a new Sonic Drift title with the same sound vibes. Love the Sonic R soundtrack and enjoyed Jacques' tunes on Headhunter and MSR as well. TJ Davis has an astounding voice!
Where have you been all my life? 😍 In all seriousness though, thanks for sharing your review of Sonic R's soundtrack; you're doing it justice. The moments listening to it and singing it in my head throughout my young adulthood have been nothing short of magical.
Sonic R is one of my favorite OSTs of ALL time. Its so timeless and has such good vibes, I listen to the soundtrack when I'm in a bad mood and feel better instantly. The game Ridge Racer has similar music, even has the same singer TJ Davis on the soundtrack!
Work It Out is a great track! I find it always hits best when I'm on my way to work or at work and in a good groove. Super Sonic Racing is dangerous while I'm just out and about, especially if I have a free day and looking for some good roads to drive down LOL
I always thought the Sonic R concept itself was so good and I’m sad they never revisited it. Sonic characters being fast as their main feature, it makes so much sense to have an on-foot racer, but they’ve only released racing games of Sonic characters in cars since this. I think it’s so weird having them drive. I’d love this concept but I’m a modern game that’s polished. This and the Adventure 2 Battle speed level multiplayer are great racing concepts I wish they’d revisit
I think my favorite is Livin’ in the City Livin’ in the City You know you have to survive You’ve got to keep your dreams alive Living’ in the City Where everything is free Can’t you see? In the citay In the citay In the CITAAAAAAAYYY
I really wish jacques would compose some more stuff in that style. He's such a powerhouse for cranking out big orchestral stuff, but his dancey stuff is so damn catchy as well
Summer vacation and I remember going to Walmart with my parents to get the Sonic triple pack for PC. Sonic 3&K, Sonic CD, and this earworm generator Sonic R were in the pack. Controls were terrible, you bumped into everything and the tracks would just end randomly. I wouldn't trade that memory for anything.
When I got sonic gems collection and Fired up this bad boy for the first time. Me and my sister were literally dying at the lyrics 😂 “It makes me want to survive” 😂😂😂 and “Just you and me and EVERYBODY” We were in tearssssss 😂 But when super sonic Racing came on I was like “Hold up, Am I actually getting hype?” I use it when I’m shredding the first lvl in Sonic Generations.
I remember playing Sonic R when I was 11 in 2005 via Sonic Gems Collection. So the music and game are a bit nostalgic for me. Idk what my favorite track is though lol.
Sonic R and Sonic CD EU/JP are seriously 90's out the wazoo, with the latter being SUPER high on my fave OST's list. And I think the game could have been better if it was like...just multiplayer regular Sonic, where you race to the ends of levels.
"Cheers and all the best. Namaste 🙏" is WILDDDD Anyways yeah i'm not gonna lie, I didn't enjoy the Sonic R soundtrack but it definitely grew on me. It's very enjoyable to listen to it Here's my favorite: The OPTIONS SCREEN. I know it's weird, but the jazz, the bass, everything was hitting and it's just soo groovy.
As a musician and a sonic fan, I could listen to you talk about sonic music for days. I do wish you would include some clips of the music though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely looking up the soundtrack after this video, but it would be a nice inclusion. Thanks for sharing.
i'm a Sega kid for life and the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast are part of my genome at this point, but i skipped the 32x and cd but never got to play much sonic r on saturn : c
“JAKES”, not “JAHK” Sorry for butchering your name, Richard. 🙏Namaste.
'Jacques' is not pronounced as 'Jakes'. This man can not say his own name
The first time played this ,so song was stuck in my head ,I remember being at toys r us . And I’m like what a 3D Sonic game.
Along similar lines, pretty sure it's pronounced like Loaps, not Lopez.
Can you do review/retrospective of the Sonic Heroes OST?
I honestly don't think he deserves the respect of getting his name right. He has no respect for other people, and merely only wishes to lash out in uncalled for, selfish, spite and pettiness and insult the work of entirely innocent parties for a minor name-drop error. If he has such a horrendous attitude and personally insults and slanders someone else over his mild irritation at not getting a name drop, then maybe his name isn't that important itself to pronounce in the first place.
The Sonic R soundtrack is one of those OSTs where you're like _"how can people know how to make music this good?!"_
Facts!!! 💯💯💯
This OST HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART
"Number One" is definitely one of the best Sonic tracks ever conceived
I agree with you sonic r number one is my favorite song too 🎵 🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶
Everyone knows this OST is a certified hood classic

Sonic R’s soundtrack is pure nostalgia
I listen to sonic R's soundtrack still to this day. It's perfection.
Living in the city, you know you have to survive! Thanks for talking about this game, so many good memories playing this with my cousin when we were kids.
Keep cooking with the soundtrack and retro gaming videos. Your channel is a gem. Your enthusiasm is so wholesome.
I actually love Sonic R. I know it is not the best game but it has a lot of heart. You are right the music takes it to another level.
i used to play sonic R before i can even remember myself
i can feel the soundtrack in my soul, its a part of me by now
I don't care what anyone thinks, I always love all of the songs of Sonic R no matter what. actual good youtube algo recommendation, wth? let's go sonic??
CAN YOU FEEL THE SUNSHINE
My favorite song from this soundtrack is Diamond in the Sky(The regular Raidant Emerald theme), It just has this real magical feel to it, listening to it makes me feel like I'm flying through the night sky.
Literally same ❤❤
Same! By far.
It was nice of sega to include a racing game with this album
Number One and Living in the City are my personal favourites.
Grew up with the game and the concept is honestly so novel, the gameplay could be worse and I would still love the game. I got recommended your channel out of nowhere and I was very pleasantly surprised to see someone who's just as passionate about Sonic R's soundtrack as I've been for the past 20+ years. Banger soundtrack for sure.
The 90's was the best era to be alive.
I love sonic fans that give their hype to their fandom so much
Time to binge the bops! Never got into Sonic R before, but thank you for the recommendation!
Diamond in the Sky is my favorite with Super Sonic Racing and You’re My Number One right behind. Absolutely love this OST. Has been on every smartphone I’ve ever owned. The OST also hits different around holiday season for me.
Work it out is also my favorite off the soundtrack. I always loved how much of an audience sonic music could reach since its always so diverse.

Wow yeah this is a throwback! I wasn’t any good at the racing but I played the levels just to hear the tracks on repeat lol
The soundtrack may not be typical Racing music, but they bangers. Play it on my phone! Love Can You Feel the Sunshine!
You're on a roll with these Sonic Videos! Looking forward to more fun content. Good luck 👍
I regularly listen to this OST! Absolutely love this music.
Back in Time from Sonic R has a motif that sounds reused in Sonic Unleashed, in the Island level Day Time.

I think Jaques absolutely comes off as the real a-hole here, but ok.
Livin in the City is my favourite! But they're all so good
It's interesting to hear Yasuhara, probably the guy who made the momentum physics of the Genesis era work thanks to his level design, say that a racing game of characters running isn't a great idea, considering that's like the one thing people wish future racing games applied instead of having Sonic cast in vehicles.
Sonic R ost is one of my favorite osts of all time and Back in Time (the song for Regal Ruin) is my favorite Sonic song of all time
Loving the videos 👏🏻 it’s been a deep dive into my childhood
That Sonic R soundtrack CD was the first CD I ever imported, specifically because I loved Sonic R's music so much (back then it was only available in Japan or import shops). First video I’m seeing of yours, had to subscribe!
I've heard the main theme on various challenge videos covering many games as a montage song and it never gets old. You're definitely right about this.
My favorite thing about Sonic R is that it was adapted from the F1 game that Traveller's Tales (later Tt Games of Lego game fame) was already working on.
Sonic has always had ties to pop music, so it really fits.
Take me back in time was my fav, just has this romantic flare to it that i like ^^
No clue how I found this channel. Happy I did. keep it up
Rusty Ruin Zone and Gene Gadget Zone from the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast are my favorite tracks from him. The special stage zone is also a treat to listen to. Sonic R’s soundtrack is the icing on the cake for me.
I remember owning the double disc version of these games for Windows pc and playing them on my old Windows desktop.
Sonic R's soundtrack is a bop. Feeling a bit down? whack on "Can you feel the sunshine". Never fails to cheer me up.
Living in the city always plays in the back of my head when I walk around downtown
Kinda wish Sega would do/contract out a new Sonic Drift title with the same sound vibes. Love the Sonic R soundtrack and enjoyed Jacques' tunes on Headhunter and MSR as well. TJ Davis has an astounding voice!
This sountrack pumped me through all-nighters
This ost deserves a Grammy frfr
Number One and Work It Out are my favorites!
The moment i found out i could put the game CD in my CD player and play the songs, was the moment i found Gold. I was hooked on every song.
Work it out slaps just like. So hard
work it out is part of my exercise playlist lol
great video mate keep up the great work
Sonic R is really amazing and I wish they would make an updated version. Also, the soundtrack is amazing! I legit still listen to it today.
Big Sega fan for years and I still learnt a lot from your video.
I love how there is a slowed version of work it out and diamonds in the sky that sound like a rick Ashley song lol
Where have you been all my life? 😍
In all seriousness though, thanks for sharing your review of Sonic R's soundtrack; you're doing it justice. The moments listening to it and singing it in my head throughout my young adulthood have been nothing short of magical.
Back in Time was even sampled in Jungle Joyride from Sonic Unleashed
I can listen to the Sonic R soundtrack everyday and never get bored!
The Sonic R ost and Richard Jacque's music in general is so so goood
I still rock the soundtrack to this day.
Sonic R has one of my favorite soundtracks. Nice
I was honestly shocked down the line when i found out the singer was white and not black lol. Her singing is so good!
Sonic R has a great soundtrack so 90s😊❤
The amount of beats I’ve heard on UA-cam that sample “Living in the City” are astronomicallllll lol.
Sonic R has one of the best soundtracks in the game, my favorites are Living in the City and Super Sonic Racing.
Can you feel the sunshine is such a jam! I wish they would put this song in modern sonic games
i have been bumping this eurotrash stuff since i was a kid, sonic R is the best soundtrack in gaming. nothing comes close.
I always turn on Back In Time when I go on Google street view and go back to places and venues that don't exist anymore.
Best soundtrack ever
I think my favorite is Livin’ in the City
Livin’ in the City
You know you have to survive
You’ve got to keep your dreams alive
Living’ in the City
Where everything is free
Can’t you see?
In the citay
In the citay
In the CITAAAAAAAYYY
I really wish jacques would compose some more stuff in that style. He's such a powerhouse for cranking out big orchestral stuff, but his dancey stuff is so damn catchy as well
You can check to Metropolis Street Racer OST for that stuff
Work it out and number one is my favorite song ever 🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶
Summer vacation and I remember going to Walmart with my parents to get the Sonic triple pack for PC. Sonic 3&K, Sonic CD, and this earworm generator Sonic R were in the pack. This soundtrack made me play Sonic R in the first place. Without the ost, it wouldn't be as whimsical honestly.
I remember playing Sonic R when I was 11 in 2005 via Sonic Gems Collection. So the music and game are a bit nostalgic for me. Idk what my favorite track is though lol.
hard to say but prolly daimonds in the sky or livin in the city prolly the best tracks in this game in my opinion
Namaste 🙏" is WILDDDD
Anyways yeah i'm not gonna lie, I didn't enjoy the Sonic R soundtrack but it definitely grew on me. It's very enjoyable to listen to it
Here's my favorite: The OPTIONS SCREEN.

I hate how the song “Number 1” doesn’t have an instrumental version.
